My introduction to hifi

What would happen if you were to wear the left side on your right ear with the right cable attached and vise versa on the other side?

That looks like itā€™s not going in all the way. Seems pretty loose in my opinion! I even consider the connectors to be kinda loose on my teaks compared to my 4xx but still has an audible click when pulling them out.

I mean theoretically wearing them backwards will work just fine but the sound will be different based on the position of the driver, angled drivers or pads etc. the meze 99 can be used either way and arenā€™t even labeled since the drivers are located identically on both sides.

Also depends on the connectors. The sennheiser 6x0 connectors can destroy the ports is used incorrectly

Also, even if youā€™re new to headphones I think youā€™ll notice if the the general sound of the headphones is a defect or not or just the sound signature. At least I would imagine that you would. I wouldnā€™t wouldnā€™t worry about that unless youā€™re hearing something that obviously isnā€™t right like clicking or hissing or blown drivers or something.

Thank you for the feedback. The weird part with the connectors for me is the fact that there isnā€™t an audible click when putting them in. Whenever Iā€™m wearing them, it can be quite easy to simply severe the sound on one side because of moving my head or body around, usually by twisting my head to the side. For whatever reason, it likes to favor severing the left side. I only have to pull the tiniest bit of it out for the sound to stop. When Iā€™m wearing it, the connector wonā€™t outright fall out of the slot, but once it barely moves down, the sound stops, and Iā€™ll push it back in even though it practically feels all the way in already. I might even make another video showing the sound being disconnected by the wire hardly moving if it feels necessary to do so.

I just gave really shoving it in there another shot, and, what do you know, CLICK, so I wasnā€™t putting it in all the way. I just felt afraid of messing something up if I try too hard. I have also found that placing the headband further back on my head helps to keep the headphones more secure on my head. They donā€™t feel like they could fall off if I look down now. Still wish there was a little bit more clamp force for my head though.

Nice! Yeah some of the connectors can take a bit of force. It def didnā€™t look all the way in. Glad you figured it out.

And I feel ya on the clampforce. I am super bugged when a headphone feels to loose. The shp9500 especially has this issue for me. So much that I feel the cups arenā€™t even fully resting on my fears probably. The blon is a Suspension band right?

Nevermind I scrolled up ha. Yeah the suspension band fit isnā€™t my fave. It can be comfortable and keeps them on but I lik the snug fit to my ears and head more. And bending wonā€™t help you I donā€™t think Another drawback to suspension bands.

This site has some good easy tests to check if anything is wrong

But really if something is horribly wrong you will notice

I see people recommending brainwavz sheepskin angled pads and zmf universe pads for the sendy aivas. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of what these pads will change in the sound? Also, if you get a pad with more depth, (Which from what I already know usually adds more sound stage.) will it change the amount the headphones clamp on you any?

Mon mentioned alternative pads that are bit more comfortable and other mention other pads they used. I donā€™t know in particular about the aivas but generally you are correct that deeper can result in more soundstage but can also recess bass or other frequencies. Different more breathable materials usually add to soundstage as well. What is it about the pads that you donā€™t like?

Pads can be tricky overall. There are some headphones that always sound best with their own pads like the sennheisers, and those that are more forgiving with pad swaps. Also, there are those headphones that seem like they were made for other pads. It can be tough to gauge what is best as by reading, as with all audio gear, what others say itā€™s hard to tell what you will like as all tastes are different.

I would say that for most headphones, if you like the signature, itā€™s best not to mess with the pads, but some things like comfort are hard to deal with. At the same time experimenting can be the fun part of headphones as well so itā€™s always worth trying. Brainwav pads are almost always guaranteed to offer more comfort that most pads, and are a safe but since they are usually inexpensive and you can always return them.

Just know that, as Iā€™ve read so often, it seems that most part swaps end with being swapped back since more often than not, the stock pads will usually be best sound, at least from my experience and what I e read. However itā€™s always worth a shot! And maybe the added comfort is worth the change in sound.

They really just sounded more open, not really changing much tbh, Iā€™m just glad the crinkle was less lol. I may have mentioned that later on in the thread

On high and low gain, whatā€™s the most you want to turn the knob to? Is it better to unplug the headphone jack with the adapter attached or keep the adapter in the amp? Is there such a thing as a system of speakers that is 3, 4, or more? Iā€™m still waiting to be refunded from ebay but I got my topping d10 today. Iā€™m not entirely sure how to use it though. I have it hooked up to my laptop through usb and I installed the driver. If I select the d10 on my laptop no sound comes out, so either Iā€™m missing something or I canā€™t use it until I get my amp.

You want to judge that by your listening level, you want to set your gain to where you have the best volume control

It depends on the amp but typically itā€™s safe to keep them plugged in

This is common for home theater, but there are some 5.1 channel music out there. You can have a setup with left, right, center, sites and rear speakers along with a sub (or more stuff with like dolby atmos)

You need to have an amp, as it only outputs via rca so you have to have something to make the signal usable like an amp

I know that I donā€™t know what an ideal headphone is for me yet, since I havenā€™t experienced all there is to offer in the world of audio, but I thought it might be important to point out some details that may help in this. I am a very mathematical and quite patient person. My listening regiment is simply going from album to album after Iā€™ve had enough time to let an album sink in, and I will occasionally return to an album after enough time has passed to see how my perception of it has changed. I usually tend to listen to an album one time straight through, and then I will repeatedly listen to every song individually whether itā€™s because I enjoy the song a lot, or I still have mixed feelings about a song that I want to resolve, or I donā€™t like a song a first glance so I try to give it every chance I can to see if it will grow on me any. There have been a lot of instances where if I simply give something enough time, it really grows on me. Iā€™m not always listening to the music in the foreground. Usually it starts off that way, but as I listen to it more and more it starts to be put in the background more as I find less and less to take away from it. I would guess I have an analytical mindset, but without having hardly any knowledge of how music is composed, Iā€™m not entirely sure what it is I even analyze.

Would it be a viable option since the blon b20 are open back, to use them as speakers to play music when I go to sleep for the night?

its viable it just wont be loud.
your better off buyin a $20 bluetooth or computer speaker on amazon and use that instead

I havenā€™t heard them so Iā€™m not sure, but I believe they are planar and as someone who owns the 4xx it might be possible lol. When I left my 4xx running I HAD TO move them and my amp to another room and dampen the sound with clothes piled on them so that I couldnā€™t hear them from my room and sleep well

I am expecting to get my jds labs atom tomorrow to try out. I was glad that the highs did not kill me when listening to this part of this song. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8dVYDbS17aA I donā€™t think I have any other songs I like as of right now with more aggressive highs. There was an album I was listening to where I didnā€™t much enjoy the s and t in every word they sang being so much more pronounced, was a little much for me.

Thatā€™s some intense stuff there haha. Yeah be careful on your ears with that. Iā€™m glad I didnā€™t have my headphones one when I clicked that lol.
