šŸ”· Neumann NDH20

Mrspeakers ether c flow 1.1 and campfire Cascades might be something to look in to

Apparently the Brainwavz HM5 / NVX Studio (same headphones, different brands) are like HD280s, closed, but with good treble and good soundstage.

Audeze Mobius is also really good, but itā€™s battery powered only and canā€™t be used with an amp; only USB and Bluetooth.

I really enjoy the M1060C as well. NDH20 has them beat in clarityā€¦ but they are wider, warmer and you can make them open if you want. They leak more sound - and they are more fragile than the NDH20 tanks.

Iā€™m looking forward to the closed M1070/1570 that are supposedly in production. I too need closed back for an office environment.

FWIW I did not enjoy the dt770 sound overall - and donā€™t find them to be in the same class as either of these headphones.

I ordered the regular grey and black Android version and they are really decent quality. Almost went with the red as well. Are the red ones rubber coated?

Yeah, they are rubber. Seems like I have made a wrong color choice.

Just got my pair yesterday andā€¦ yeah these things are detail monsters. I can hear all sorts of little shit that Iā€™ve never noticed before in my music. The comfort is also pretty good for me thankfully. surprisingly these have more bass than I was expecting, but itā€™s not too much or anything like thatā€¦ I rather like how much bass this set is throwing at me  sounds kinda like a closed back Sennheiser 6 series but with a ton of detail and actually bass-y.

Iā€™m running these off of my monoprice THX AAA desktop and theyā€™re so clean and precise soundingā€¦ Then I plugged them into my DarkVoice 336se and HOLY SHIT! YES. These sound amazing tubed, just adds so much warmth and air to the sound. Definitely increases the enjoyment factor of this set for me. Finally I found a pair of cans that can compete with my 6xx running on the DV.

These are most likely my endgame closed backsā€¦

Zā€™s review was spot on. They are incredible. If anyone is wondering how they are for gamingā€¦ INCREDIBLE. They do hurt my ears though after a few hours, but nothing some readjustment canā€™t fix.

Soā€¦ this or the mrspeaker ether cx? Thanks in advance

I actually hadnā€™t thought about the NDH20 for gamingā€¦ I donā€™t remember reading/watching the reviews and saying that they had particularly good soundstage. (I keep hearing that the HD800 is a god-tier gaming headphone because of its soundstage.) What makes it so good for gaming in your opinion?

Well I canā€™t compare it to the HD800, but for me the soundstage is enough for shooters. The detail and location accuracy is just perfect though.

Found a short cable that works and also has a right angle 3.5mm endā€¦ can confirm it fits.

Personally I donā€™t think the hd800 or hd800s is super great for gaming outside of the initial wow factor of the soundstage, but personally I find the soundstage over-exaggerated which actually isnā€™t that great for gaming, as it might misrepresent some spatial awareness. It is great for detail retrieval and makes it easy to hear high end, but personally I think there are better headphones for pure competitive gaming, and better for more fun casual gaming as well

I havent played many online shooters since a long time . I just started Escape from Tarkov, so I can only talk about old school shooters. Serious Sam (original) are good with the NDH. The HD versions strangely are more like the enemies are already hitting you. I love tight sound like audio technica and neumann does but compared to the Jubilee - I just cant feel the distance when dodging. Hell Let Loose seems great, do not quote me on that.
Now more strange examples. The Jubilee made me look to my open window when playing skyrim which I did not get with the NDH but Thimbleweed Park (by Monkey Island guy) has the highest quality of sounds I ever heard with the NDH where I got the modded Skyrim feeling with barking dogs.

Amid Evil and Dusk are both new Oldschool Shooter and sound really roomy.
System Shock 2 gives me goosebumps with its use of bassy engines and atmospheric scare-bass.

All in all the NDH in my opinion cant give you the Beyerdynamic room positioning but with some learning you might get a higher level of awareness in games maybe like CS GO and Squadā€¦

New Review from Max Settings. TL;DR: Good sound for a closed back. Works well as a monitor. Not really neutral with a dip in the mids and a peak in the treble.

I have been under the impression these would still compete well when put up against many open-backs? Is that not the case?

Pretty much how I felt. Itā€™s good but not really super accurate. I do think they would compete, but it would depend on what you want from a headphone and what you compare it to

My ears must suck. I thought these were really good. I ranked them overall 2nd in my modest collection (Phantom takes 1st, another headphone a lot of people didnā€™t like) ahead of the Argons, Focal Elex & HD 6XX in that order. The Elex & 6XXā€™s are well regarded by so many but Iā€™d take the NDH20 over both. Not sure if Iā€™m doinā€™ it wrong or itā€™s just a legit sound preference thing.

I think the Elex would be better then the ndh 20, and from what Iā€™ve heard the ndh20 over the phantom imo. I donā€™t think your ears suck lol. You just have a preference, and you know what you prefer. Thatā€™s not a bad thing at all

Thanks for the encouragement. Looks like Iā€™ll just need to buy more to compare against.

All jokes aside, I was quite surprised at how much I have enjoyed the NHD20ā€™s. Not to mention how great they are for 2:00am listening around sleeping spouses.
