BGGAR’s grills…

This or the new m570?

Got some grills made by LUCILLE667 from Head-Fi today. They look awesome with wood finished stained in Ebony. So, after reading on forums I did all the mods suggested and these sound very good. I am not sure how to post up images but I will post links here of the Grills and Mods I have done.
First thing when i got these headphone was to take out all foams on both grill and pad sides including the 2 little circle ones. I then added some 2mm sound foam disks replacing the original cloth piece that came with the original grills. At this point, the highs were still a bit harsh on louder volumes, so i added the fuzzor mod on the pad side and replace the stock pads with Brainwavz XL Elite Hybrid Pads. Lastly i replaced the metal grill with a wood finished grill so there wont be any magnetic interference with the drivers. These sound really good to me now.

Black Friday bug got me and I ordered a balanced cable for my Phantoms. I’ve been using the Kennerton Vali so much lately that these haven’t gotten much play, but man they are still so good!

The only reason I’m not enthusiastically rec’ing these every time I see a thread asking for a headphone in this price range is because I think the build quality isn’t that of a $350 headphone (abysmal headband IMHO) and you definitely have to mod them. With that said, if I can do the mods needed, ANYONE can.

I’m typically hot to sell off a headphone if I consider it redundant in my collection, but I can’t bring myself to sell these. The sound is so good!

@XyleFBB Dint yours come with a balanced cable, or did you just want a different one?

I just wanted it and at the time I didn’t think I’d be upgrading to a balanced setup. Both cables it came with were fine in retrospect.

Yep the oe cables and adapters are good…except nothing for a 3.5mm ttrs ala ifi  hence that’s why I got a custom Oidio Sound one made up :+1:

People still enjoying their set of these?

Very much so here. At my main desk, it’s the Kennerton Vali. If I’m on anything else like my living room setup or DAP, I tend to grab the Phantoms. The sound is similar, only a few rungs below the Vali, but more comfortable for sure.

I didn’t think I would like them but I couldn’t ever get myself to sell them. Also grab them quite often…

Enough to not even think about other headphones. Just think about new upgrades like pads. Waiting on some custom grills at the moment.

I have the Phantom to thank for getting to listen to a bunch of different headphones and learning to trust my own ears.

I heard so many people saying they were crap (cough DMS cough) and maybe stock they may well be. Modded is a different story though and one by one, each headphone I bought that were supposed to be better (HE560, Elex, 6XX and more) couldn’t supplant the Phantoms and got sold in favor of them.
