Elixir seems like the hook-x the way they’re describing it
Nooo stopp On another note, I am interested in the 2DD+4BA config tho
4 months later… Same thing happening with my Hiby R5 Gen2…
Im just glad the weekend is coming.
Wtfff how can they keep messing this up??
Im loss of worda, tbh. And bought through linsoul.
In the bright side, it doesnt affect me much as I could download Tidal from google through apks.
Will give it a spin later
Pretty interesting backstory about BQEYZ at the start of the review
That is partly why I don’t do daps. That and the absence of support for recent android versions.
For that stuff, a good phone and a dongle will do a better job.
But as always, use cases matter: if a DAP answers yours and you’re happy with it, that’s fine
No, but the HR manager is walking around the office with a CRA on her ears
They know what I do. Hell, it would impossible not to. I get packages every week and some weeks, everyday. People took it lightly. When I’m out, they now store them for me.
I’m on the opposite side. I don’t do dongles much. I have having something hanging out of my pocket.
Also, most dongles can’t compete with good daps, in my opinion. Also most daps can do whatever you want them to, as long as there’s something like HibyLink. For instance, my Cayin doesn’t have android, but if I feel like using tidal instead of my flack files, all I have to do is turn on bluetooth and launch tidal on my cellphone. It will work as a BT receiver and amplifier. I just leave it on my pocket and be done with.
sub 100 usd: dongles
100-300 usd: portable amps
300+: daps
Ok I just realized my sleep drunkness made me sound like an ass. Let me clarify.
I don’t rec DAPs for people that dont find them appealing. I don’t even rec sources unless someone talks about it. I still preach that unless a set is underpowered, it weights the most in a chain.
Every type of source has pros and cons.
On my part, I never experienced dap: too expensive to me for now.
When I did some tests on my dx3pro (desktop amp) VS dongles (l&p W1, radsone es100), I didn’t catch that many differences. So for now, I stick with dongles.
But when I speak about dongles, I mainly think about BT ones: most usb dongles don’t have buttons for next/previous track, and that’s a no-go for me.
Great, don’t spend money on sources, it’s a giant rabit hole!
Also only with some sets, imo.
Oh, that’s a BT amp. ES100 and Q5k are great options and will get you covered.
My es100 is dying, thus the q5K… If it arrives one day… But yeah, I’m happy with this: it is way sufficient with iems. For my headphones, on another hand… But those have to be covered with my desktop dac/amp.
IMO no-name company + non disclosing the specific AKM DAC chip is a big red flag before buying something like that
Q5k on balanced is sufficient even for very insensitive planar headphones, don’t get yourself fooled by random opinion on the internet that you need more than 1W for dynamic playback. Mine plays well with HE-400i on balanced with more than 12db headroom
As you can tell, this is 100% a curiosity buy. It has basic flaws like the lack of buttons and the otg cabe is usb to 3.5mm. Im just very curious how it would sound
The Ovidius B1 is well regarded by those that have listened to it. And it is half priced! It may have been a gamble back at the start of 2021 when it was full price, but hardly one now.
There are a lot of dongles offering balanced at its original price point so it may be forced to come down or it is a sell-off before releasing a new model.
. . .and it is tempting me now. I have plenty of ESS DACs, Cirrus Logic DACs, but I don’t have AKM (AKM is recently back in production after their factory burned down).
Headroom and raw power don’t tell the whole story. implementation plays a role too: I heard differences between my dx3pro (SE) and the es100 (balanced) even though the es100 is supposed to be way less powerful.
