Nymzreviews.com official thread

Either the screen is upside down on the left or the logo is upside down on the right… of course running android it might just be reversible depending which side people prefer the thick end to be on.

Actually looking at the MicroSD slot/buttons I’m just confused now. The thick end switches but the buttons/slot stay the same.

Yes. I noticed it now. But it looks good in purple…

I think this might be just some sort of optical illusion… What you think is the big end in the right picture is actually the slim end there’s just an edge that makes it look chonky I guess

I’ll definitely give my opinion on this video, but first I want to make it clear that I didn’t in any way mean to imply that Luke Holland or Lars Ulrich aren’t good drummers. The fact of the matter is that any drummer being realistic will tell you that both of those guys are probably in something like the top 3% to 5% of drummers out there. In that Holland video, he demonstrates techniques that require A LOT of time/practice to get that fast at doing with any precision for an extended period like a whole song or set. Lars has several decades of making more money and more hits than all of us ever will and is a very good drummer in his own right. Just wanted to make that clear.

On to the Greyson Nekrutman video: The short answer us that he certainly demonstrates techniques in this video, particularly in his solo, that require much more in the way of independent limb coordination and complex stick and stroke techniques that require finer control than what was shown in the Holland video. Clearly, another very talented drummer. Anything that involves playing different beats to different time sigs and different dynamics with different limbs simultaneously is always gonna be orders if magnitude more difficult than even the fastest and most technical drumming without it. That’s why most professional drummers will generally shy away from labelling someone who’s very fast as also being very good without seeing something that requires more than just muscle memory from repetition. That’s also why many folks point to jazz trained drummers as often being technically superior to those that aren’t. That said, he gets negative points for looking like he’s doing his best gorilla facial impressions while playing and I can already hear the collective voices of drum teachers everywhere criticizing his posture. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

In a band context, I can’t think of many situations where you’d play like that, genre aside. What he’s doing here is meant to display drumming skill so he’s essentially taken over playing the bridges of the song over the top of the rhythm/beat making himself something of a “one man band.” If he were playing with a band, there would be very few parts left for anyone else. The solo would work well during a drum solo worked into a set, obviously. Sorry, that’s probably not the most fun answer, but I think it’s the most realistic one.

I’m sorry to everyone who didn’t come here to read about drummers. I tried to keep it short as I could. You can have your thread back now. :metal::sunglasses:

Chap as always super thought through and diplomatic - politics awaits after music. To be fair being an audiophile is pretty good training for that… I bet there is a correlation.

Erm fuck that doesn’t bode well for us…

Also good self restraint - I usually jump at the chance to jokingly shit on a rival peers work hahaha

I would :100: agree - to me the playing verges on domineering with your “one man band” concept right on the money - technically mesmerizing with adherence to structure though… Polyrhythmic is always super impressive to hear but looking at jazz drumming greats it’s hard to contextualise someone coming out over the last 30 years playing like this at his age and how that can fit into an actual act. Has vibes and a push in a Buddy Rich type of mould but it’s bold pushing a band leader role as a young drummer who actually leads instead of composes/engineers. Hopefully musical virtuosity is gaining more credence through acts like Polyphia or UK collectives like Sons of Kemet who have pursued more mainstream friendly melodies wrapped in a case study of independent social forward marketing.

And also apologies  will stop clogging the thread up

@SoundEater Did you dig out the Mele to listen to the new album? :metal:
That is one of the most underrated IEMs under $100.

I am confused, is Putin worried about messing up his hair?

Melee is a beast for metal and is underrated. Everyone is jumping on the new IEMs, and I dug out the Mele and the IE80S and listen to them with delight! :sunglasses:

I listened to it again in the wee hours this morning on my Ikko OH10s and dug it even more. A couple of the tracks that didn’t click with me immediately have definitely begun to grow on me. Plus, the OH10s were great for that sound. I’m still getting to know them, but so far metal is one of my favorite genres on the OH10s.
