Rant thread - share your grievances, not just audio

I am still trying to maintain patience this week, only 1 week of waiting to go until I get the new replacement card that I am waiting. I just hope it won’t break quickly this time, for lately I have been careful of my stuff, regardless if it’s cheap or expensive, for a sentimental item is still sentimental.

had a guy actually try this one… Helped a buddy out with choosing a headphone he went with the 770s(first headphone and he loves the V signature so why not) item comes in… open the box only to see a Behringer BH 770, that headphone that looks pretty much the same as the beyerdynamic DT 770 but sounds like ass.

Guy tried to fight us and actually went on record telling paypal that we were lieing even flagging our accounts on the site we used stating were trying some kind of illegal bs to get out of it or something. The guy kept blowing up the accounts inbox with messages on the issue even after paypal forced a refund so we had to turn that in and just block him.

Been having this issue quite a bit lately on the more 3rd party sales even on ebay… very untruthful people or just straight up scams

What was his previous feedback?

Oh no, not the Behringer crap.

I also found out this exists: https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0E3Q

Is this… an AT MSR7 clone? lol.

Avoid Behringer headphones. All of them.

actually positive but not like a real big number or anything. figured it trustworthy lol. Pretty sure his account has been removed over this too because I cannot find it anymore

I think the only Behringer stuff that I trust from them would be their audio interface or whatever type of equipment that my dad mentions and uses, for he used to be a disk jockey and he has been using a couple of stuff from Behringer with no issues.

Behringer is fine. You just have to be aware you are not buying from a high-end brand.
Their PA speakers are good enough. Their subs are pretty decent compared to other options (allthough when Thomanns house brand “The t box” is available, they have strong competion).
Their mixers are a bit flimsy, good enough though.
Their Audio Interfaces are surprisingly good (on top of being good price/performance).

Their Headphones are shite. All of the 5 I tried/had to use so far.

Overall, 6/10

Behringer UM2 comes to mind, was one of the first budget interfaces I got as a gamer next to my Focusrite Scarlett. Wasn’t bad at all

Yeah I have to agree with the headphones, for back then when I was not into this hobby back then, my dad was planning to get me some headphones that are from Behringer and when I saw their headphones I was like “yeah I don’t think this is going to last long and I am not even sure about the sounds from these ones.” and this is coming from me, who was not aware of the high-fidelity stuff and I think that is one of the signs that I was like transitioning from no knowledge about high-fidelity to some knowledge about it, since I admit I am still learning about this stuff but at least I know more about it than ever.

Got a ducky keyboard in today… kind of pissed as this was to replace my old one(I wanted a smaller board so I have a bit more desk space). Took 2 and a half months due to back order and the Board came in somehow warped so it won’t sit right… normally when you get a slightly off level’d board you can torque it… but this is the mecha it’s made of metal and it’s twisted enough to the point I can’t get it correctly like even the box looked like whoever had it from the factory just kind of forced it in the box… definitely going to make a complaint, thankfully they have a warranty and return policy on this. Hope whoever just tried to pull this gets canned that’s just ridiculous

Might just return this board and look towards that new GMMK PRO coming out in a couple months. Not sure.

Edit: well at least the customer support is really good for them… got back to me same day about it, will get a replacement.

Don’t understand why popular audio sub reddits like r/audiophile don’t allow headphone posts.

It’s just like headphone people just get pushed to r/headphonePORN which just gets like maximum 100+ updoots because it’s such a unpopular sub. Also porn is such a inappropriate word to use.

It feels like headphone users are discriminated on Reddit. It’s just dumb. I’m a active Reddit user and I’m sad because I cannot post my new headphone setup there to get more attention. Like the whole point of Reddit is about upvotes. No point staying there for my audio crap anymore. I’ll just stay here.

@Felix

The headband remindes me of condoms for some reason.

It’s like the surrounds are thicc and the middle, thin.

How long before the aftermarket cases flood the market?

Not sure yet, seeing as the only way to ‘power off’ the headphones involves putting them in the bra case and closing it with a magnet on the case…

However, this doesn’t power them off seeing as they can’t be powered off, just put into sleep mode.

3rd parties will need to figure out/get licenses for that case design

China be like what’s a licence? lol

They look so bad!
Oh boy…

Also: In b4 the swivel joints fail in 3 months

If I had to guess, reed switch in the headphone. So any magnet will do.

PC Audio Pinout Rant

We all know how on TRS (unbalanced), the pinout is

Pin Signal
Tip Left
Ring Right
Sleeve Ground

And then there is this shit:

So TRRS is mostly (>90% market)

Pin Signal 95th percentile
Tip Left Left
Ring 1 Right Right
Ring 2 Ground Mic
Sleeve Mic Ground

But wait! It gets worse!

So the pink jack on PCs is standardized, right?
WRONG!

Sennheiser does it like this:
image

Creative Labs used to do it like this (no idea if that is still the case):
image

Some obscure website mentions this:
image

Pin Signal Or maybe? But are you sure? Possibly?
Tip Mic Mic Mic Mic L
Ring Bias Mic Ground Mic R
Sleeve Ground Ground Ground Ground

stitch_frustration
That was not helpful, was it?
So, maybe if we look at the AC97 standard and then probe the few pc cases I have here?
image
Oh look! There is a Bias Voltage (5V). Then again, AC97 is “legacy” allthough many pc-cases have the AC97 pinout connector after the HD-Audio header.
Let’s look at the two side by side:
image
Mic is still there, Ground, DAFUQ? WHY?! So It is maybe bias, maybe ground?

Geez, didn’t knew it was so f uped. It’s like power supply cable’s for PC’s too, the pinouts are not standardized.

I fried my friend’s expensive Asus motherboard, he was not happy. (I used modular power supply cables from another brand)
