I’m still waiting on the new bumper and valance panel to come in. The weather has basically halted shipping right now. I can’t say it hasn’t made me leery of driving in this crud. Particularly seeing full size 4x4 trucks sliding around, knowing I’m just rear wheel drive… Even with the old bumper, 3 rather large rocks, an old car battery, and 2 sheets of plywood in the bed over the rear axel.
The new valance is supposed to have the mounting points for fog lights though, something the old one didn’t have.
Except this isn’t Texas weather! No one down here is prepared for this(biggest reasons I may be is my recent year and a half stint in Northern Maine, and still having my winter weather clothes from up there). So far as I know, we’ve now broken the records set back in the winter of 1951, 70 years ago.
Sand also helps a lot and it can be used for some traction. Just going slow and avoiding big mounds help the most. I got my mustang home from an overnight shift once with summer tires still on (it was not supposed to snow, but we got 2-3”) The hardest part was getting out of the parking spot and starting from stops. Those tires were basically teflon in those conditions.
I wish movie audio enginners also listened to their movies in their homes before bedtime, in their beds with their wives and children or whatnot.
It’s not fun watching a movie on netflix, where you can barely hear the dialogue, but then there’s some action scene and the speakers start summoning Cthulhu and I need to scramble to turn the volume down before the house foundation turns to liquid…
I miss old Star Trek, they understood this shit. They understood dialog, character development, cinematography, lighting (FUCK OFF LENSE FLARES), they knew when to end a fucking plot.
It’s not healthy to hate something with such passiong, but I absolutely despise Star Trek Discovery, and the second season of Altered Carbon.
What happened to just doing something you love, for the passion of doing it, and not pushing some woke agenda.
I don’t judge based on a single person behind movies, because it takes hundreds to make them, many millions of money, and all shits of pandering to get a movie made. I judge the actual end result, and Discovery is shit.
Edit: Also I don’t think Nolan fits the category I’m ranting about. He makes some weird ass movies, and it works for him. I’m ranting about the talentless executive corporate scripts written to please some Disney like corporation agenda and ride the current biggest twitter hype.
I’m hard of hearing to some degree and this gets me all the time. I am the one who stays up later too so gets tiresome at night constantly fiddling with volume. Been watching original Star Trek lately and can agree I tend to not find this an issue when watching.
If there is a helicopter on screen the rotors should be coming out of all speakers except the center. hit me over the head with surround effects. This would also keep AVRs honest, it should be a thing on which mindless blockbuster can send a receiver into protect mode. O and compression sucks.
I’ve been going through Star Trek The Next Generation lately, and currently halfway through season4… Recommend it highly if you haven’t watched it in a while, at least for me it was a very happy throwback to when i used to see it in my youth while it was on air. Also, i missed a few of the episodes back then, so its nice to see some “new” material as well
I’m paying the price for neglecting the battery terminals on my car. The battery is kaput and won’t hold a charge. That’s fine actually considering its age and how frequently my car goes through batteries.
My neglect of keeping the positive terminal clean though resulted in so much corrosion that I now can’t get the nut loose to get the cable off. All the visible corrosion came off with a few rounds of common baking soda paste. It looks like you could eat off the thing now. The damn nut just won’t budge. I’ve tried a socket and both sides of a combination wrench. Nada. Time to say an overnight prayer to our Blessed Lady of Penetrating Oil I guess. Not really sure what I’ll do if that doesn’t work. It’s a car battery after all so you can’t take torch to it to heat it or cut the nut off with a Dremel.
There are two cables that join at my positive cable connector neither of which feel like they have much slack. I’m just worried how far corrosion may have gone up the cables but I guess I probably won’t have much choice other than to find out. Oh, and of course I was just reading that replacing one of the two positive cables may actually require taking off the intake manifold. Gotta love contemporary engine compartment packaging.
