Well… The marketing interview went well enough they wanted to schedule a round 2 interview.
The Ibex interview… I can’t say I’m not a little irritated by. You sell me on one thing, just to try to higher me for something else. Then when I say “That’s not what we discussed, and that’s not what I’m looking for”, you tell me you have to pass me off to someone else, i’ve gotta wait another week to speak with them, for a position that won’t start till the beginning of July.
Some companies are so afraid of hiring the wrong person, they end up shooing away the right person.
That’s rough. We’ve done this with a few positions in the past, but the something else is part of the initial contact “Hey, we received your resume for X but we really think you’d be great for Y, would you be interested in interviewing for that position?”. Pulling a bait and switch at the interview is a red flag IMO.
We’ve done it occasionally, the resume implies one set of skills or a depth in specific skills that the applicant doesn’t actually have, but they have other skills that come up in an interview that are interesting in a different position.
Most of the time this is a function of an applicant wanting to change roles but not having the experience or having demonstrated the skill set for the new role, and they walk away, but we also wouldn’t have hired them in the initial position so…
Except when they bring me in from the start saying it’s for one position, then at the start of the very first interview they’re wanting to go for a different position entirely.
It was really:
Before interview: we wanna interview you for tech support
At the very beginning of first interview: okay, we wanna talk to you about a position as a tax assistant position. Do you have any bank or tax prep experience?
I bought, and returned, a Steelcase Leap chair.
Premium chair my ass. It had a crooked back from the factory, got replaced with another crooked one, I asked for a refund when they wanted to send a 3rd one.
They said they’ve never seen this issue before, yet the internet has quite a few reports of this.
Shame since the chair is nice and you can’t really find anything else like it. Competitors are pretty much using mesh instead of foam.
The distributor was top notch, premium service. The manufacturer however, questionable QC.
First world problems… my annual tradition of driving the alpine loop on mem day weekend was broken yesterday. They have most of the loop closed this summer for road construction so I could only complete the first 1/3. Still was a beautiful day.
It’s unfortunate that you didn’t get to drive it all however that still looks like a lovely place.
Right now, I am just waiting for some of the stuff that I ordered back then. It will take some time, therefore I need to practice my patience. That’s where I am weak at, but I guess it is a way for me to improve I guess.
Don’t know how much of a rant or grievance this is, but thought I’d share it it anyways, might make some people chuckle. Just woke up a few minutes ago and had gone to get some water so I could take my medication, and when I come back into my room the light was shining just right onto my Clear Mg that I thought something had happened that had put a massive dent into the right earcup. I swear, my heart stopped until I realized it was just a trick of the light. Guys, it’s too damn early for things like that.
Can I share that as someone just getting into audiophile stuff, I’m finding it very frustrating. I think beforehand I thought that it would be like computer monitors or something. No one debates what resolution a monitor is, or the refresh rate, and the color space can be measured and everyone accepts that the measurements are real. And there are super-expensive reference monitors that do better than consumer monitors but there’s no real debate about their quality.
In the audiophile world, on the other hand, quality is highly debatable. I’ve heard people say things that, if true, completely invalidate things that other people say as fact. For example, I’ve heard people say that headphones need to be burned in, and other people say that burn in isn’t real. I’ve heard people say that all DACs sound the same. All amps (outside of tube amps and the like) sound the same, and if they don’t they’re basically broken. Amps and DACs have nothing to do with soundstage and can’t possibly affect it. And I don’t understand how there isn’t just a way to measure these things in a way that everyone would accept. Either a high-end DAC is better than a low-end DAC or it isn’t. Either an amp produces extra soundstage or it doesn’t. Either the Schiit Modi/Magni stack sounds the same as the JDS Atom stack or it doesn’t.
Another example is the debate about MQA, where some people say it makes things sound worse, some people say it makes things sound better, and some people say that the differences between MQA and Flac are not audible to the human ear. These statements cannot all be true.
And in all of this there seems to be a LOT of emotion and even bullying when people want you to come around to their way of thinking on things, even when those things really are subjective (like if someone prefers a certain headphone or changing ear pads or something, they’re WRONG, though admittedly this is even more common in Discord than in forums). You also see this kind of emotionality in things like the way the Super Best Audio Friends people like to bang on about how terrible the Audio Science Review people are, which just makes me feel exhausted.
I’ve also heard people say things like all the audiophile reviewers are shills and hacks and are not to be trusted, which, I mean, how are you supposed to evaluate anything in that case? Just listen to random forum posters and people on Discord? Give me a break.
So yeah, there’s me ranting on what I’m finding frustrating about all this stuff. I mean the obvious rational thing to do is to stop looking at any of it and just enjoy the equipment I have, but I seem to keep coming back trying to wrap my head around the whole thing and figure out who to believe.
Just because you pointed a camera at things does not mean you know what you are talking about.
Just because you pointed a camera at things does not mean you know what you are talking about.
True! But the same is true if you just type something on a forum or a Discord server.
The question is how do you know who to trust? Can you trust DMS or Zeos or Joshua Valour because they have large followings and seem to be respected by the community? Or are they automatically shills and hacks because they have affiliate links and a vested interest in selling you things? Are there people who you can trust?
I think one of the reasons people like Amir at ASR is because he actually produces data and numbers which give his work at least some measure of objectivity for whatever that’s worth. But it doesn’t tell you why he likes the Magnius while other people say it doesn’t sound good, for example.
The best lesson I ever learned with all this audiophile stuff is this:
You will subjectively experience differences between components that you can’t differentiate in a double-blind test. Even after you fail to differentiate them in a double-blind test, you will still experience subjective differences once you can see the components again.
It’s all subjective, man. This hobby is no different from any other. You have hacks, shils and extremists in all hobbies. I am also a motorcycle rider and enthusiast and I see the same shit happen there as well. People get emotionally invested in things which leads to confirmation bias. as an example, I see the back and forth between the measurement camp and the counter camp. I find it amusing and somewhat silly. You have to learn to just drown out the noise, be true to yourself, do your own research and go with what sounds good to you that fits your budget, whatever that may be.
Frankly I find most of this audiophile stuff to be comically and ridiculously expensive, but it is what it is. I don’t get mad or bitter just because I can’t afford what others can. In fact, It’s fun to read about the high end stuff because it’s fun to learn about what makes it tick. And I don’t concern myself with any of it. I use the reviews as reference material so that I can make the best purchasing decisions I can. And I have to say, I have found that this forum has a very good group of folks in it. I’ve learned a ton and have enjoyed my time here.
At the end of the day it is (and should be) about enjoying the music, no matter what it is you are playing it on. The bickering and the rest of it is just bullshit.
Sometimes just got to do research find a review of a budget product and take the plunge. like what you hear try another product from the reviewer until they gain entry to the circle of trust.
Now with free 30 day returns only hassle is repackeging and sending it off.
Zeos has met the threshold to gain entry to the COT in my shopping cart.
I get the worst luck I tell ya… the focals I have been sitting with are defective… course they are why not lol… so the clear has a popping sound in the left driver during certain songs sounds like clipping actually… only the clear og my other clear og does not exhibit this problem so… neat. Clear MG has channel imbalance… this seems to be rather common with Focal from time to time… as the Elex also has channel imbalance but worse than the mg by a good margin… the mg is slightly off but the elex is blatantly off to the left channel center is actually diagonally placing sounds and what not… its really weird lol. Not the amp and dac either tested that nope… just the headphones as my beyers are fine. My copies of og clear and clear mg that I actually own at home are fine… just these copies I have to test things out away from home are defective, were new units too… reaching out to the company about the issue.
Im beginning to see the costs of owning a sport car in this country… one of the expansive country’s in Europe.
So after 4 days. Total cost’s have been roughly 2.5k$. Car has not even moved after Saturday.
- Had to order new brake disks and ceramic pads. 700$ Minimum 2week delivery time!!
- New Michelin tires. 1200$… fucking china shit tires installed just for selling… dangerous at speeds and wet conditions.
- Luckily!!! i checked the car’s private information and tax information… previous owner should pay the remaining yearly tax… last pay day was literally today!
So… the car would become illegal and not roadworthy. Plus the “crime” of not paying… is more taxes and penalty. This country… and it’s taxes… and rules.
Worst case: i drive it and cops would have scanned the plate… Illegal car.
Ticket, plates taken and the taxes with added penalty of being late.
So lucky me! My taxes and previous taxes… 300$ - The Oil. I think it is very important to use and have the same oil the car has… So previous owner had some fucking dick cheese expensive oil in like… 20$ / 1L or 33.8 oz… and they do not evel sell it near me… So 20L / 5.28 gal lqd + 1L to go… total of 300$.
…I think i might start to loose my mind… if this rate continues more.
Might have to start selling speakers soon… F#CK!!
Oh yea… almost forgot. The insurance costs are like 950$ per year so that… that’s still coming.
What must have transpired within Mozilla some months ago…
“Ladies and gentlemen, tabs are a fundamental part of using a browser. If we’re going to overhaul Firefox’s UI in version 89 then we should do something significant with tabs. Does anyone have any suggestions?”
“Yes! I do! Let’s remove 90% of the screen elements that users rely on to visually discern one tab from the next one.”
“GENIUS!!!”
Sports cars are so dang expensive to maintain, but worth it if you can afford it no doubt. I was in your position once when I used to own a German sports car living in the US. I owned an 05’ Audi S4 Avant and it was a mooooneeeey pit, but damn I miss that car 4 years later. I was going to have to pull the engine for a second time in one year. 5k to fix a $70 part that many had never even heard of failing. Would have fixed the part when the engine was out, but had no idea it was going bad.
I think the last set of tires I put on that car ended up being just under $1000 with installation and actually spent over $800 for my Nokian tyres on my new car. Not sure what insurance normally should cost where you live, but maybe it will ease the pain knowing I am paying more per year on my Ford Escape (an SUV) than you will be on that beautiful beast.
I had no idea the newer Corvettes took so much oil! I thought 9L was slot for the Audi considering my 97’ GMC Sierra truck took only about 5L (quarts here of course - I hate that we don’t use metric). I liked Liqui Moly oil and was around $35-40/ 5L. There should be no issues switching over to a different oil brand, so don’t sweat it to much or force yourself to over pay for oil.
Hope you get her up and running soon so you can tear up the streets and spend your money on tickets instead .
