Mirroring a lot of my same feelings right now. You’re definitely not alone out there!

That happens with me at times too. I find taking a break helps. If it’s burn out at work then take some time off and not think about it. So relaxing activities instead.

I mean there are times that I do have the time to take a break and have some relaxation. But it’s not as such, if anxiety comes and ruins it for me overall, therefore making me not relax even though I know there are things that I cannot control in the future, and I know all I can do is what I have right now in the moment.

But I am trying man, I am trying to focus in the moment and not dwell too much about the future for I don’t know what would it be. Also trying to not dwell too much on the past, for things can make me lose focus on what I can do right now, for I cannot change the past, therefore I need to appreciate and use what I have right now.

I just realized while discovering a japanese pop/metal act how large portion of the world supported american music without understanding a word of english, like opera.

I want to buy a new laptop with the latest Windows11 included. In my research into Windows 11 to my surprise I discovered how unpopular it is… Putting aside whether an existing computer can ‘upgrade’ to Windows 11 or whether it has sufficient requirements to run Windows 11 (because a new laptop will have all the requirements) I am very wary to purchase Windows 11 because it may not have the luxury of the functions which I have with Windows10. As to printing functions Windows 7 is the king. Because it tells you exactly which cartridge has run out of ink, Windows 10 does not have this and I be pissing in the wind to hope that Windows11 would reintroduce this option…! Why can’t advancement in technology not have the wisdom to keep what works and to introduce advancements which was needed in the previous model…?

This is generally the theme among software companies. Add useless features that no one asked for and take away the useful ones.

The individual cartridge level would be a function of the manufacturer-supplied driver, not the operating system. My Windows 10 machine shows the level of each cartridge on my Epson printer, provided I have Epson’s driver installed. You can try checking the printer manufacturer website for a driver rather than using the one Windows automatically detects and installs.

Eventually Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 in favour of 11, so at some point everyone will need to upgrade.

Bottom line here is that you are correct. Hopefully in the not-so-distant future I will be able to put together a decent Linux desktop solution so I don’t have to give that shit bag Gates any more money. You would think someone would have figured it out by now, given the thirst of so many people to be liberated from freakin Windows.

Burn out is rough. I like my job and am pretty happy about many things in my life. At the same time there are many that I wish I could change or fix, but I can’t and I am not always comfortable with that.

This has been a tough couple years to do that. I miss being able to spend more time with my friends and family. Discord and Video calls are not quite the same thing. About the time we got vaccinated, we had to move to help my wife’s parents. I gave up my friends, mom, and grandkids in that deal, for my in-laws. I am driving distance to Disneyland, so at least there is that.

Here is hoping that 2022 sucks a little less for us all.

I am hoping that would be the case but given my track record of me being a cynical shit, it might be the same case as me saying “A different number of a year, same shitty day.” I hope I can be proven wrong or at least make it less worse for everyone.

Technically not.
If you have working hardware, software that you need and they now work on 10.
Why would need to upgrade?
For sure the OS updates will run out. But if ur own security holds and not visit the “dark” sites.

The old hardware probably will die out before the actual “need” to upgrade comes.
Unless some new screen saver works on 11 and you want that.

Security is the main point. You shouldn’t be running Windows 7 or XP currently. Vulnerable OSes are not safe for doing day to day activities. Even if you are not visiting dark sites, other avenues of attack are available.

Microsoft will support Windows 10 for a while: Windows 10 Home and Pro - Microsoft Lifecycle | Microsoft Docs so in all likely hood the hardware will give up or a system upgrade will allow you get a compatible Windows 11 device.

Another issue is support for existing software; Firefox or Chrome for example might not allow the latest versions to be installed on older OSes.

My machine is running both Debian Linux and Windows 10 and is not compatible with Windows 11 so I currently have 1,393 days to stay as is.

I tend to be a bit cynical too, but somedays I push that down, and try to look for the good.

One positive to report, today is the winter solstice, so for those of us who have issues with the lack of sunlight, it starts to get better after today.

I REALLY DISLIKE THE SUN!!! sorta. I have blue eyes, which are sensitive to sunlight and with the added head trauma from a bike crash 23 years ago, it made that sensitivity even worse :stuck_out_tongue:

buuut, I do like my vitamin D

guess that’s why the top of my head is always burned :stuck_out_tongue:

Still not everyone have/has to update. Depends on the need.
Plus you can have 100% security. Just unplug the network cable.
Just nit picking what you typed.

Windows 10 has extended support until 2025 I believe.

That depends on the build, though, anything before 20H2 is already EOL.

Yes, there are people who still run older versions of Windows for certain application support. I was more referring to the day to day use cases of a computer.

Also, I don’t mean any hard deadline when everything will stop working but I suspect it will be a more gradual phasing out of certain hardware and software.

So I ordered from a Spanish website and the courier company managed to send it to a Spanish address :man_facepalming:. I’m guessing that their system only reads the ZIP code first and forgets the rest of it, so it’s somewhere in Valencia instead of Estonia. My reaction:
