Rant thread - share your grievances, not just audio

Me being out of touch with the times came to mind to why not feeling LOTR ROP . Glad you brought up star wars age is not deciding factor on the success of a francise. They got me with baby yoda, baby yoda is rockstar.

Seems like not much orginal stuff. Waiting on the prequel to “all the presidents men” (1974) while redford and hoffman are still alive.

… and the original Star Wars trilogy is more or less Akira Kurosawa’s ‘Hidden Fortress’ set in space.

Gotta love those days where it’s just one fucking thing after another… Had to fight my bank on an issue this morning. Then found out work needed me to find in an hour early, because someone had to be taken to the ER for GI bleeding. Then I find that not only is nothing ready for me to take over when I get to work, the morning shift did jack, I’ve gotta set everything up for the afternoon/evening shift and be the sole person working for the following three hours (knowing the most anti-productive employee is who I’ll be closing with), then find out my help is running late no sooner then they’re scheduled to arrive. Nothing gets done because I can barely break away from constantly having to hand hold. They break policy, leaving the store and leaving the door unlocked before I can try setting the alarm. Then I get home and start relaxing, only to find something dug a hole through the ceiling over my bed… Fuck me.

Edit: Found the bastard that put the hole in my roof and ceiling. As of right now, the hole in the roof is patched, but not the one he made in the ceiling right over my bed. I’ve seen him look through the hole once, which is how I know it’s a raccoon. Don’t exactly have a great way of getting it out right now…

Edit 2: They’re still there… And there’s definitely at least two of them… and they keep looking at me through the hole.

Guys, if possible please sincerely if possible from yourselves, remain calm and try not to injure yourself because I fucked up last night due to my anger and frustration due to my fuck ups playing pickup ball. I was playing bad and frustrated at myself and the shots were not going in.

Then due to that moment of just being mad and stupid, I punched a steel post very hard, only to get an injured hand afterwards. Luckily I can still move it and use it, but the minor pain of me pushing something with my right hand or holding something with it would be a bit of a bother for a while.

At this point, I think it’s okay to take some anger management lessons or even therapy.

I like my iPhone and iPad a lot. I cannot for the life of me understand why Apple has made it impossible to have a third party parametric EQ work system-wide. I mean, I get that they want to keep control of the lower level systems, but this makes no sense. There’s no way, for example, to do software-level parametric EQ on Apple Music on iOS. Basically, you have to use a separate device like the Qudelix 5k (which is one of the few devices that can be used for this purpose) to do this. Apple wants iOS to be a serious operating system that can replace your computer’s OS, one further targeted towards music professionals, and it can’t do this simple thing that every other operating system can do. Get your act together, Apple!

Oh, while I’m ranting, can I just bitch for a second about the new run of $20 IEMs aesthetics? Like the Chu IMO is the only one that looks good from a design point of view. The Salnotes Zero? The CCA CRA? The QKZ x HBB? All of them just hit every branch on the ugly tree on the way down.

Like why is it so hard to design a good looking IEM? Like it’s not! Look at the Kato, just put a metal shell on it in a reasonable shape and you’re done.

Even plastic, like the Sennheiser IEMs look fine.
Shure IEMs, look fine.

But for some reason most of these Chi Fi things decide they want to look like something a 14-year-old from the 90s would think is COOL MAN.

Haha it’s all a matter of taste but I actually agree with all the statements and particular examples here! Word for word.

I wonder in the back of my head whether if the HBBxQKZ came in a nice simple glossy resin, or stabilized wood, or other beautiful finish with no need for complex shapes, whether I’d find it easier to settle on them. On the one hand, of course how they look doesn’t affect the sound. But for me and for probably others, it affects the pride of ownership and joy of use. It’s one thing that excites me about the Maka.

The best example I have to date of beautiful yet minimal form with an at least decent tuning might be the QoA Vesper. (Sub brand of Kinera I think hence gorgeous shells.)

There are sets I wish sounded differently because their visual aesthetics are ones I could happily have settled on. Other sets I feel I may have spent longer finding audio niggles with because deep down they weren’t what I wanted to have in my ears going forward.

I thought about getting an Apple product. But Apple’s owners have proven they care about money and making their products simple with expensive hardware more than audiophilia. They removed the headphone jack in newer iPhones. Wired headphones get you closer to studio quality music than wireless ones. Also, Apple’s softwares for photoshopping, video editing, and audio editing are overhyped. Windows 10 lets you have more options without Apple’s proprietary software limiting your ability to play with audio settings. Earbuds from Apple are not audiophile quality. Which makes them overpriced to some extent. So, there’s a good reason why some people use Android phones and Windows 10 instead of Apple products. Especially when Apple’s customer support team has turned into a mafia that lies to customers about repairing products. So, customers are buying overpriced gimmicks from a company controlled by unethical con artists now. What makes it even worse is that Apple does corporate virtue signalling while having child slaves make products. So, Apple’s owners don’t care about making the world better for everyone. They lie about making iOS be a serious operating system when it is overpriced mediocrity that has become increasingly dysfunctional from newer products. Which makes Apple lose a sense of professionalism. It’s turned into a ghetto company with no ethics nor quality products. It’s all just overpriced gimmicks now while increasing wealth inequality between richest men and poor people happens.

This is true but I don’t know that Android manufacturers are any better in this regard (though it might be worth doing the research). Particularly Chinese phone and computer manufacturers probably aren’t keeping up with the highest labor standards.

I would disagree that Apple don’t make quality products. iPhones have a number of advantages over typical Android phones, the chiefest being the longevity, while the fragmented Android phone ecosystem means its harder for phones to keep getting updates, especially after 2 years, and they typically aren’t built to last as well.

Further, I’ve never had the kind of issues on MacOS that I used to routinely have on Windows (particularly with software consistency, hardware just “working”, things like window scaling that Windows is almost comically terrible et etc). And the ecosystem that Apple created is just incredible. Like the fact that I can copy on my phone and paste on my computer without thinking about it is magic, or when I have 2FA code sent to a text message it just fills out on the webpage on my Mac, or how I can take and receive calls on my Mac as long as my phone is on the same network without having to do any extra setup or work etc etc. And apps for iOS just tend to be better than on Android, a side-effect of Apple customers being known to spend money on apps in a way Android customers aren’t, incentivizing creators to prioritize them.

But generally I think any time you see someone saying “Apple is all terrible” or “Windows/Android is all terrible”, it’s not really fair or clearheaded. There’s pros and cons to each of them. But the way Apple locks down iOS is basically unconscionable. And the whole right-to-repair difficulties are unconscionable as well. I’d rather have something like the Framework laptop that ran MacOS than a modern Mac even with its retina screen and fancy speakers. (And say what you will about Apple and audio, the headphone jack on the new Macs is very good as are the speakers.) I agree that I wish the phones still had headphone jacks, but most Android phones these days don’t have them either unfortunately. Also the whole thing where Apple only supports the AAC audio codec is absurd for a company that produces something like the AirPods Max.

I tried with movies .

Yeah, I’ll have to remember that if they come crashing through the ceiling onto my bed while I’m trying to sleep.
Hell, they kept looking at me for about 30-45 seconds at a time about a dozen times just between 3am and 5:30am

You have to look harder for companies making Windows 10 and Android phone products to get that smoothly running device experience. Windows 10, Android phones, and Apple products have their pros including cons. But when you look harder to find Windows 10 and Android phone products that last long without malfunctioning, it makes a difference. Technically, there is the best Android phone that lasts longer than 2 years, has great apps, and such. But it has not been released publicly since more companies have started to concentrate on their filthily rich stockholders more than lower-class customers. There’s been a discussion on how the big tech industry has been increasingly lagging behind for decades regarding phone and computer improvement because western civilization is declining when rich men leech resources away from poor people.

Unfortunately, America and China’s oligarchs have a ruthless monopoly in the big tech industry. China and America’s oligarchs are attacking human rights including intellectual freedom. Julian Assange and China’s banning of V.P.N.s prove this. Also, western civilization is declining, too. All of these events make the big tech industry vulnerable to tyrants who don’t make products that make customers happy. Instead, they make products to indoctrinate customers.

Right-to-repair difficulties sometimes come from poverty and products like ones from Apple becoming increasingly expensive every year. Which is why Apple becomes increasingly expensive and only affordable for elites who leech wealth away from poor people. There are poor people who get tired of paying to companies controlled by elites who intentionally create poverty for hoarding their money while making products ridiculously expensive, then not letting customers repair things they bought.

Speaking of hoarding money. Child slavery comes from rich men wanting to hoard their money by oppressing people. The big tech industry has become increasingly unethical for allowing rich men to hoard their money by oppressing people. This is why labor standards are dystopian in the big tech industry, especially for lower-class women and female minors regarding child slavery. The big tech industry, mainstream media, oil companies, and governments are internationally monopolized by rich men who don’t care about ethics. This is why women continue to have less money, power, and protection than rich men who make the world burn.

You’ve answered your own question here. It’s because they so tightly control their ecosystem and don’t allow third-party access that you get the things you mention the the second quote. But that, by necessity, means the former is impossible.

That’s not true, though. They control the ecosystem on Mac too, but you can have a system-wide EQ on that platform. They just decided that iOS would be significantly MORE closed than Mac is. Nobody needs to jailbreak a Mac to get basic features.

The Mac is a personal computer though. iOS and MacOS, while connected, are two different things. iOS, because of the devices that run it has vulnerabilities that a personal computer doesn’t have. That has to be taken into account.

What vulnerabilities?

It’s a mobile OS, on mobile devices. That means that there will be far more devices susceptible to bluetooth/wifi hacking if they open up iOS to third-party control.
