My gosh, the San Francisco Giants have become the laughingstock of the major leagues. This ass-hat Farhan Zaidi and the clown car ownership group have taken a once proud organization and in 4 short years have completely destroyed it. The roster is now about the worst in Baseball, they made a weak-ass attempt and whiffed on Aaron Judge, they couldn’t muster up the stones re-sign Carlos Rodan, and now Carlos Correa, seemingly in the middle of the night, has bolted to the New York Mets. I can’t say that I actually blame him. Beyond the money, why on Earth would you want to play here? Obviously, he decided he didn’t want to! He probably came into town to sign the contract and took a walk around the block! What a joke. This team has now become - and I can’t believe I am saying this - The Oakland A’s. Frankly, I hope all three of these men have career seasons and beyond.

Growing up as a kid I used to love this team. But like the city, the team is going to shit. Now I look at that logo and I want to spit. But this is what happens when you have a so-called President of baseball operations who thinks he is the smartest guy in the room and obsesses over a damned spreadsheet while having no ability to actually evaluate a player, and an ownership “group” that is more concerned about making real estate deals than trying to make their team better. It’s just sad.

Perhaps they should sell the team to someone who actually wants to compete. Until that happens, I will not go, I will not watch - They can go screw themselves. And I think a lot of the fan base feels the same way. I hope that park is empty next season. I’m pretty sure it will be.

Rant over. Go Mets!

That NYM luxury tax is pocket change for Cohen apparently.

I know! The man has certainly made quite the splash. With the Correa signing that makes the Mets payroll the highest in the majors, by a wide margin. We will see what that translates to on the field. The expectations will certainly be very high.

These wussies in San Francisco think they have what it takes to play with the big boys, but time and time again they prove just how weak they really are. This loser Zaidi was prancing around the owner’s meetings talking all kinds of trash how they are here to spend money and won’t be outbid etc. And who has he landed? Absolutely NO ONE! Mr. Moneyball Spreadsheet loser strikes out again! This bum needs to go.

Meanwhile I am an atlanta braves fan and have no clue how we could get players to sign cheap deals while people like Cohen could just whip out the card for every player and get them. Its a miracle how the braves have remained decently competitive for a while now with the amount of players they just let walk or not get in free agency, but with the amount of success the team has gotten they barely won any titles.

I don’t want to hijack the thread, but I hear you. I have a lot of respect for Atlanta, they have done pretty well for themselves, all things considered. The Giants, on the other hand, have turned into this weak, platooning, spreadsheet-driven pile of mediocrity that I can’t stand to watch any longer. That brand of baseball turns my stomach.

OK, no more on that! Let the rants continue…

Getting back on topic with rants, my LG V20 has now like died, like the charging port no longer works and the battery charger cradle too. I could potentially buy a new cradle but at the same time the display on the thing had severe ghosting issues and the glue for the display was even peeling so its time to possibly let it go. If the thing suddenly decides to charge again then I am going to try and recover some files and things but I dont want to have much hope for it. Thankfully it died right when the semester ended because not having a device to authenticate university logins and such would have been a pain. Jumped on the deal with the mint mobile Google pixel 7 pro but man I am going to miss the removable battery and micro sd card slot.

Bought a record in November, supposedly mint condition. The seller sent it, but UK customs (theirs) have blocked and sent it back. After some difficulty communicating with the seller, he passed to me a new tracking number and the item is stuck in “posted” since 07/12, most likely due to Royal Mail Strike.

Excitement to get the record is really transforming in frustration.

If bought an IEM cable from someone selling off their gear on head-fi for $23, it arrives, and the MMCX connectors keep causing cutouts during use (while hanging down, on a cable with no earguides).

In my books, an IEM cable that cuts out all the time in normal use is faulty.

I guess there’s only so much fuss I should make about $4 something, but there’s also the time I took to return it… wouldn’t you think the seller should cover the return shipping? I’ve already sent it back to them.

The way I see it:
a) I did nothing except trust their listing
b) They didn’t test their MMCX cable properly before selling

So although they’re already out the shipping of sending it to me, the reason that shipping needs to be paid a second time was in their control not mine. I don’t feel like I should be walking away with wasted time and $4ish lost just because I bought a faulty cable.

EDIT: I won’t name-drop yet because there’s still a chance they might do the right thing (I’ve let them know I don’t think this is a good way for sales to go) but I feel tempted to as they are having some blow-out sale listings in the classifieds and I’d hate for someone to end up on the losing end with one of their pricier items.

Well, this is the response, so I don’t mind sharing it considering they are also selling expensive things right now on HF classifieds. I think the hint about not thinking it right I had to be down the return shipping was clearly ignored and instead I got a weird lecture about being careful buying from people? That’s kind of exactly my point, not sure what point he was trying to make?

I just don’t get it. They reiterate how poorly they checked it before charging me money and sending it to me… but don’t want to pick up the tab.

EDIT: Their listings are usually for several items at once (not strictly allowed on Head-Fi which brings the added complication that I can’t leave feedback for them, because the entire listing can’t be made out as “sold” to my username, which would allow feedback. Maybe a deliberate thing, maybe just lazy. Either way I’d avoid this seller, they don’t take any responsibility. I’ve ignored them and reported them, and I’m just grateful it wasn’t much money, just frustrated on principle.

Still baffled by their “partly my fault”… how is it not fully theirs? Certainly not any part mine.

Edit: update as of just now - they sent me the shipping over PayPal. I’ve left them ignored on HeadFi and would like to keep it that way, so I won’t learn why they decided to in the end, still not a fun experience to have had.

Wow, I read (and re-read) their reply and just went…whaaa?? It was almost like they disembodied themselves and responded as if it wasn’t them, or partly them and someone else. Very glad they came through with your shipping refund.

You know… I enjoy my new stereo. It’s got it’s quirks and all, but I like it… However, I just noticed the big flaw…

Unless I’m mistaken, that’s some bad IPS glow

Damn I thought I was looking at reflections on the screen…that sucks.

Unless that blue is a reflection, it’s the only constant one so far

I wonder if one of the color filters failed and is letting all the blue light through?

What’s weird is I only really see it on that screen.

No need to go into detail, just an immensely wearing and depressing day at work. Apparently I can never set the bar low enough. Just infinitely more work for me, the less preparation my students do.

Just to give some hope around here: record came in last week, everything fine. More than a month waiting was worth it, is gorgeous in both appearance and sound. Should post about it next week along other things.
