Since we were just talking about this, I figured I’d mention that I’ve been playing with an iFi xCAN that arrived in the mail today and the bass boost on it is delightful. (And I’ve never really liked the bass boost on any of my FiiO or xDuoo products.)
Transpore tape? No clue what that is, seems to be surgical tape from Google though.
The important aspect with micropore, is that it allows for some breathing room. So if normal tape is too bassy or it starts to distort, micropore should help.
With the specific amp/dac I was referring to, iFi claims their bass boost is done on the analogue side of things, but I have no idea how much of a meaningful difference that makes as opposed to doing it on the digital side.
The ear canal is slightly oval shaped so its better tech to have oval . Not many do it though I imagine due to the extra RnD costs. If she is rolled and doesn’t sound right I will tape holes 100% LOLOLOLOL
He got 2 units from them. You would expect that units being sent to reviewers should have better QC than that (one of his units had missing filters as well)…
You might think that, but honestly there is so much in the audio space that makes no sense.
I understand if my $20 Chifi IEM has a lousy cable… but what is HiFiman’s excuse in making sometimes not just a bad cable but a almost if not actually downright broken cable and shipping it that way.
If that’s what Ikko is shipping out… kinda disappointing.
That sig is fine for neutral. I can understand if Ikko is coming out with a OH10S as the “bassy” pair and the OH1S is the “neutral/bright” pair… but, just not that exciting.
Sucks too because they look like one of the most comfortable IEM designs.
It depends on that DD tbh. My EX800st has a fairly flat bass and thumps. It will be the seal and the performance of that driver. Also any tuning ports etc. to adjust accordingly.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t larger DDs in IEMs tend to produce more bass compared to what graphs say? The opposite is often true with small/micro DDs (BAs too) as they tend to graph higher in bass but turn out a bit more flat.
The EX800st has a 16mm driver. The Gems are running a 10mm driver, which sound close to how they graph typically.
Agreed, big difference in size, still hoping it has good dynamics so it can more or less fake it. I’ll bring it up in the main IEM discussion once I dig into them/get my set.
