Happy Birthday.
Yeah, my Zen review will have tons of comparisons. (I just hope I wont reach head-fi´s maximum characters limit lol, its “only” 50 000 )
Stunning looking iems. Gotta give you guys that took awesome pictures on it credit, might be the most difficult iem to take pictures on.
I havent done anything else other than taking these pictures though so cut me some slack on the questions on the sound lol.
On another note, what do you guys think about this picture taking setup? Do you prefer this or my regular setup?
Regular setup (Fiio FD5):
Those are very nice pictures, they could be taken straight from a product brochure.
Thank you.
They were taken with the LG G7 + macro lens adapter.
Wished I had a better camera…
Sweet, so fast! Really looking forward to this. Thanks!
Going to take my time with this for sure.
Going to be fun to pit the FD5 and the EX1000 against this one.
looks great, keep up the great work.
Interested to hear what you think of them. I have them, they’re sexy and the cable/accessories are great. Sounds pretty awesome too, seems to me like a direct upgrade from fdx1 (extremely natural timbre + pretty forward and engaging). On certain songs it sounds so big I’m shocked it’s coming from such a tiny iem. Bass is exceptional too.
On the other hand, I don’t know if it’s worth $500 more than fdx1, at least not for me.
yeah, I am a bit sceptical about the price myself.
Bass, lower mids are epic. But the upper mids can have a bit too much quantity (I am sensitive to that area).
While the biggest issue I think that might actually be a dealbreaker for some, is that upper treble roll-off causing it to lack micro details and air because of that. (PEQ high-shelf boost from 10k with Q = 0.7 and gain 4 db seems to help a lot though)
Soundstage isnt that huge either, or more like I got stuff at the 200-300 usd price range with a bigger soundstage. (still huge for an iem though.)
But well, this is still very early impressions and I will take my time with it. So take it with a grain of salt right now.
Yeah, “zen” is definitely a misnomer, I don’t think there’s much that’s zen or peaceful about it lol. It’s a pretty aggressive/intense listen for me. If you mainly listen to metal/punk/hardcore and want your eardrums thrashed (in a good way) this would probably be the perfect iem
Definitely the wrong name for it lol.
For those of you that got the Tanchjim Oxygen, here is the PEQ preset I made for it to simulate the Dunu Zen:
low-shelf: 40hz, Q:0.6, Gain: 2.5db
low-shelf: 150hz, Q: 1.2, Gain: 2.5db
peak: 2400hz, Q: 2.8, Gain: 1db
peak: 9000hz, Q: 3, Gain: 3db
high-shelf: 11 000hz, Q:0.71, Gain: -6db
preamp: -5db
Wow, almost everything arrived at once. (everything except my Audiosense T180/DT100.)
First off, lets get the garbage out of the way. The RP-HZ47 sounds like a really bad radio, very harsh and sharp treble. Has a very notiecable “shhhhh” radio noise…
sub-bass sounds like a really bad mid-bass, mid-bass quantity is extremely low quantity.
Mids…sounds like a really bad quality phone call or something…
yeah, horrible, a total waste of money
Rank: F
Well, this is actually pretty good. Sounds like a mini Koss KSC75. Bass doesnt reach as low as the KSC75 so tonality is a bit brighter and treble can sometimes be a bit sharp as well. But mids are great as well as soundstage. But a step behind the KSC75 in details, imaging and timbre.
It has a retractable cable thats pretty unique and you can adjust the ear hooks to fit your ears much better than on the KSC75. The problem with the fit though, is that it is pretty heavy so when you move your head, they start swaying and that means the sound will be affecting.
I paid around 16 usd for this one while the KSC75 was around 30 usd for me. So this could be an even cheaper alternative if you want an earclip. But honestly, if you can pay more for the KSC75 you should just do that instead lol.
Rank D+
Sony MDR-EX1000, the iem that seems to be regarded as a timeless king for single DD iems.
Well, I knew I was going to need to EQ it. The treble isnt good (like the graph). But the mids, bass and soundstage are great. Will definitely review this after I got my other reviews out of the way first.
But the newborn child vs the timeless king (Zen VS EX1000) will be included in my Zen review.
Got my EBX21, super early impressions. Well tuned with good tonality and timbre as you expect from earbuds. A bit warmer tonality overall and very neutral. Although it has a typical bud bass…so no Yincrow X6 upgrade here.
As for technicalities I cant comment on them yet (too early) and because I have been using high-end iems like the Dunu Zen and the Sony EX1000 the entire day, the technicalities on the EBX21 didnt impress me.
Cable measures at 0.39 ohms, pretty high for a cable that costs around 100 usd.
Sure looks great.
But that cable…I got a lot of complaints about that one.
I know your normal list of cables, Faaeal and Tri and Kbear and such. I’m wondering if there’s a MMCX cable with an angled connector (into the IEM piece) that you’d recommend?
Looking for a lighter, more comfortable cable than the stock FH3 cable. I have rather short ears so angled connectors are just auto-comfy for me.
I know there’s the Fiio LC series, but the cheaper 3.5mm “BS” label doesn’t use Litz as far as I know, I don’t want to drop $100 on the “D” series for a $130 IEM.
For reference, the Yinyoo 4-core upgrade cable for Blon 03s fit me perfect, the weight and such is spot-on.
Thats an anticlimax…
The cable that came with Nicehck nx7 mk3 feels exceptional. Its soft, no microphonics, looks great in person…
Even the chin slider works just fine.
yeah, the cable on the EBX21 could be replaced with a cheaper cable like their litzps and then cut down the price by like 40%.
