i don’t think i will like the form factor of those Sonys
They are kind of a bullet style iem that you can wear down and over ear. They are known for having a fit that fits everyone lol.
WooHoo! Thanks!
Forgot that I ordered the Koss KPH30i a few days ago. Got it today and wow, its great. Very early impressions is that it is essentially a better balanced Porta pro, with less bass quantity so it isnt as dark and also cleaner and less bloated. Very well tuned. Technicalitites seems to be around the porta pro level though. KSC75 is definitely the most technical out of the family.
The headband on the KPH30i is much more solid and better built than the porta pro which feels like a fragile toy. But most importantly, it doesnt rip my hair out like the porta pro.
I got some parts express headbands on the way though. So the porta pro should get an upgrade in comfort. Not sure if the KPH30i needs it though, the stock band is great. Although I wished that the headband had number markings for the size adjustment.
gotta love it when you forget you ordered something and you got nice, surprise delivery <3
indeed, it usually only happens when I order a ton of stuff from aliexpress. 1-2 months later, oh right I had this package coming lol.
No, ironically I did get an offer to try it from Wendy on head-fi today (kbear´s rep). I declined though, not interested and honestly just seems to be another fish in the giant ocean of chi-fi.
Curious how long it’ll take until aliexpress gets stuff to my place. Finally ordered that FAAEAL cable you recommended a while ago. Going to stay single ended for now though, it’s just a hassle if I want to use them at my desk on the Liquid Spark if I go balanced. Probably going to get another one with 2.5mm balanced end as well as a balanced TRI through and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter later on.
Free/standard shipping? It depends on where you are. Most people seems to get them in 2-3 weeks.
Sweden and its shit shipping company is more like 4-5 weeks (arrives in sweden after around 3 weeks, another 1-2 weeks delay for me to receive it within Sweden)…
I definitely do not recommend that you switch cables like that (on your FH3 I assume). It is a ticket to a broken MMCX connector lol.
Better to just get an adapter when you need to.
Like this one: 4.4mm to 6.35mm Adapter Converter 3.5MM TO 6.35MM 2.5MM TO 6.35MM|Earphone Accessories| - AliExpress
Liquid spark should have a 6.35mm output? Not a 3.5mm?
Yeah but I always have a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter since all my headphones and IEMs have a 3.5mm termination. I think I’m going to stick to 3.5mm for a while, since the balanced out of the BTR5 or the yinyoo cables I used were rather disappointing. I’ll order two new cables and a 2.5 to 3.5mm later, because I want to be able to use them on my laptop as well when needed (if I’m at work and need to do a call or something). I was thinking this one:
https://m.nl.aliexpress.com/item/1005001626077251.html?spm=a2g0n.shopcart-amp.item.1005001626077251&
A 6.3mm is not good to use directly from my laptop. Also I want to be able to use it from my laptop in case I forget my BTR5 or I forget to charge it or something. Using the BTR5 wired on Linux works, but it’s very iffy. If you don’t use it for 5 minutes and hit play, it’ll blast full power over the speakers voor a couple seconds first.
Looks good.
The thing to keep in mind is to minimize cable changes due to the mmcx connectors. But with adapters it shouldn’t be a problem.
2021-03-14: Added the Audiosense T180 Pro rank C, Sony MDR-EX1000 (EQ) rank S, Koss KPH30i rank A-.
Impressions:
T180 Pro: Well-tuned n-shaped with roll-offs at both ends as expected from the driver. Bass is very BA like, lacking texture and air, but is fast and tight so it is clean and quantity is neutral. Mids are the best part and is forward, clean and not shouty with very good tonality with both male and female. Although male vocals are a bit grainy. Treble is non-fatiguing and very well-tuned but as mentioned, its upper-treble is rolled-off and it does impact micro-details and overall sense of air.
Technicalities are…lacking, aside from soundstage that is pretty decent, everything else from details to imaging are very poor. That and its low-resolution is its biggest bottlenecks. Timbre however is quite decent for a BA iem. But it still got BA timbre across the range.
So who do I recommend this to? I can honestly only recommend this if you are in need of an iem to use in a band (high isolation and pretty good comfort) where you want a more neutral iem and also want a cheap iem. Otherwise I cant really recommend it for pure music enjoyment as the resolution and technicalities are too poor.
EX1000 (EQ): Aside from needing EQ to fix the treble. The EX1000 definitely deserves it fame as a legendary iem. Bass is tight and fast and has good texture, extension is very good as well and it does rumble, although not basshead levels of rumble. Overall quantity is high so it is very fun but still clean. Mids are very good as well, male and female vocals are well balanced and tonally accurate. They can be forward when they needs to and also a bit behind on other tracks. Treble can be tuned well with EQ, but without it is very very harsh and grainy, that’s EQ is mandatory. But treble is very airy despite having a upper-treble roll-off (impacts micro-details). Although the upper-treble roll-off isn’t fixable with EQ. Overall tonality is bass-boosted neutral.
Technicalities are extremely impressive. From the soundstage which might be the biggest out of all my iems, to the instrument separation and imaging. Details are the only bottlenecks with the technicalities, as the micro-details is only average, while macro-details are good. Timbre as expected is great, my only nitpick is more about the tonality with violins due to that upper-treble roll-off rather than the timbre itself.
Now, I did buy this second hand at only 250 usd. And at that price and even at the original MSRP at 500 usd, it is a no-brainer, but EQ is mandatory. Without EQ, I would have ranked it at B. I will definitely review this, but that be after I ordered the mmcx adapter during the end of march sale, so it be a while until I get it. As the stock cable is bothering me with the fit a lot (really hate those memory wires….).
EQ settings:
Low-shelf: 80hz, Q:0.6, Gain: 4db
Low-shelf: 200hz, Q:0.6, Gain: 2db
Peak: 3300hz, Q: 2.0, Gain: 2db
Peak: 5500hz, Q:2.2, Gain: -6.5db
High-shelf: 10 000hz, Q:0.7, Gain: 2.5db
Preamp: -6db
Koss KPH30i: Endgame, yes you heard me right. I am done with headphones for a while now (probably until chi-fi has lowered the prices of the entire headphone market as it has done with the iem market.) and no, it’s not because it’s a technicalities or resolution beast. Far from it. I love it simply because it is so well tuned at such a low price. That it makes all other headphone I have heard (that are like 5-10 times more expensive) look ridiculously overpriced because all they got over the KPH30i is resolution and technicalities. Their tuning is a joke in comparison along with their timbre…
Mini-rant over, the KPH30i is best described as a Porta pro with better tuning, less bloated bass, more forward mids and an airer treble. Bass isn’t the tightest nor the fastest, but it is tuned to sound very natural. It is tight when it needs to be and looser on other tracks, same goes for its speed. Extension is decent for an open-back at this price and rumble is pretty good. Mids are clean and is on the warmer side, so male vocals shine while female vocals do need to be a bit brighter. Treble is non-fatiguing but still airy and clean, although it does have a roll-off in the upper-treble. Overall tonality is a warm L-shaped.
Technicalities are good and nothing to complain about at this price. Timbre is very good though.
Who do I recommend this for? Everyone, seriously this, along with the KSC75 are must haves in this hobby.
hello,
can you share when is the upcoming aliexpress discount event ?
thank you,
29th march.
I ordered some Geekria PU pads for my Koss headphones a week ago. Got it and tried it on my porta pro…its garbage. God it made the sound so bad, muffled and even bassier with non-existent air.
Guess I will order some Yaxi pads next time I order from amazon japan.
geekria makes rubbish pads for anything, I tried its pads for K712, HD600 and some generic 100mm ones, all were…garbage, sorry
Well, guess I know now.
Yeah, no.
-
Price, way beyond my budget.
-
All-BA, if I do go up to that price range it NEEDS to have a DD.
I only ever hear it if I get a review unit, but that aint happening lol.
