Hey does anyone know what sort of foams are used stock for the sony n3? My is starting to get a little long in the tooth and I want to replace its old foams

If I am not wrong they are similar to the sony ep ex11 tips right?

Apologies, I meant the nozzle foams

The foams that you could buy on Ali that looked like the ones sony uses are not available anymore sadly.

Yep just increasing the volume on the sub helps a lot. Just not sure if this is how I wanna do the comparison with the M10 Plus though…the way I had it yesterday was me trying to make them as close as possible, so the quality aspect is easier to distinguish from just the quantity difference.

Damn! You mean the sony high density foams? Are there any foams that could work as a decent substitute?

Yeah those. I havent been able to find anything similar even on taobao as the Sony foam is VERY high density compared to the ones on ali/tao.

Mmmmm damn! Hopefully a suitable replacement will pop up on the market soon

You can combine these and probably get something similar though.

You should do whatever makes you smile the most IMO. Ideally both should offer even extension as low as their specs allow, and be blended so that you can’t audibly identify where they crossover with the main speakers. Realistically, and especially due to constraints in positioning, it’s likely not a fair fight as what, one is a ported sub and the other is a sealed with passive radiator? And even if they spec similar, the actual curves and outputs will vary with the room even from the same position. As such, you should use whatever works best to your ears with your library given the constraints of your setup IMO. Even if you DID manage to get them to perform similarly, then unless they are actually 1:1 you are essentially hobbling the performance of one of them in an attempt to make it equal.

tl;dr, do what you enjoy the most.

Yeah, this is why speaker reviews are a bit of a meme to me…too many factors…way more than iems/buds/hps…

In speaker circles, we often say that until you get it into your room with your gear and your source, you haven’t actually heard the speakers. Companies with trials like Zu Audio and RSL and Vanatoo, and sellers like Amazon have made this much easier in recent years especially since most HIFI stores dried up outside of major metropolitan cities.

Yeah, its definitely not just plug and play like other transducers. Im happy with the crossover at 100hz on it (too high and it got too muddy and too low and I lacked mid-bass), but still fine tuning the gain.

Dialing it in juuust right is a process, but man when you get it…

100%. Just went to demo the KEF LS60 and Blade 2 Meta speakers. These are $5000 and $25000 respectively and can hit the entire frequency response without a sub. Of course both were placed near corners and so they sounded absolutely awful lol. My $150 speakers, JBL 306P with minor treatment but proper placement and Dirac Live to deal with the room’s asymmety sound way way better.

Placement and room treatment/correction are paramount IMO. You start with a good pair and proper gear (both of which can be pretty cheap, diminishing returns are just as steep as they are with headphones provided that everything is engineered properly) and then you have to give it room to breathe and deal with the room itself. I would argue that it’s probably close to a 60/40 for the speakers themselves versus the room’s acoustics. If you are doing nearfield then you can get away with a lot more, but the same basic principles still apply.
Kinda funny that a high end dealer (was it a Magnolia?) wouldn’t be able to set up even the flagships for a proper demo though…

It’s this local shop. They actually do have a couple treated demo rooms with properly placed speakers but only for B&W and Sonus Faber. It’s funny though, they are an authorized KEF reseller and the only place that demos those two speakers I mentioned in Toronto so was definitely expecting better

It’s nice to have a local place like that for sure, and I’d bet they could actually get those KEFs set up proper for a private audition. I do have to wonder though if they do it that way because they sell the B&Ws and Sonus Fabers to actual enthusiasts and the KEFs are sold almost like a Lifestyle brand haha. I also imagine that they can just sell the KEFs on word of mouth to people that can casually spend that kind of $$$.

Do note, I bought this some time ago.

Picture and description looks like it should be the same, but what I got is not the same as the ones I bought on Ali, they are less dense.

Took a look and here are some promising looking ones.

This one in particular:

Looks like it comes with the same plastic box, tweezer, cleaning tools and glue like the ones I bought on Ali did.
