when copper oxidizes, it turns green…
Maybe a little water got in there, idk if it is a problem, but it shouldnt affect the impedance that much… I guess
So until you hear a noticeable difference in sound, It shoulnt be problem (mabe just aesthetic one)
hmmm, havent thought about the possiblity of oxidation causing a change in the impedance…
Well, I asked about it on head-fi.
Well, It is just on the surface of the material, so it probably shouldnt…
Hopefully I guess. Well, it would just be another reason to change cables if that happens.
The discoloration only affects the clamp that holds the individual cables together shortly before the soldering point, the cables themselves seem to be in order.
So I am confident that even if things get worse, this will not affect the tone.
@Rikudou_Goku Thank you for asking on Head-Fi.
Funny you mention this. I was going through spare IEM cables a few weeks ago and I found one that had turned green on me. I was kinda shocked. I’ve never experienced anything like it before.
thats a lot of spare cables tbh
so your chances are much higher than those of others
True. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I haven’t come across more green cables.
The cable that went green was one of these… Zeos recommended. I’d steer clear of it.
Thats…a lot more organized than my cable collection lol.
I sorted most of them here in the same way I rank them (A, B rank).
Then there is this pile that didn’t make the cut lol.
lol, I hope it was a long time ago he recommended the C8 (cable B5). Because cable A7 (kbear rhyme) is basically the same cable but half the price and also measures better…
That’s not how it started.
I had been dropping them all into a bag. It took a while to wind them all up. I had to buy some velcro wraps or else my spares would look just like yours.
I really enjoy this hobby but I might have more of an addiction problem. I have IEMs I have bought just to see how they sound with the hopes I’ll love them. I usually write them off and they just sit there, not even broken in. Thieaudio L4 & L5 are great IEMs I own but I’ve probably only listened to them for a few hours.
Lol, yeah. I don’t even know what to do with that pile, they don’t have 4.4mm balanced connectors, so I will never use them…
Ha ha. That’s the thing. I use to replace most cables because I was using 4.4 balanced. Now I’ve switched over to 2.5 and all my 4.4 cables are useless. I despise 3.5.
Your recommendations have been awesome to help find great cables at not crazy prices.
Although… the Dunu DUW-03 has completely spoiled me. I have found my perfect cable. Never have to worry about termination to anything. It sounds great, is perfectly flexible, is the perfect weight and looks great. It’s expensive but it’s probably worth getting a few for your favorite IEMs and enjoying them. Until the next best thing comes out.
How I wished we could all just use a single standard for connectors…
The modular system that both fiio and dunu uses is a very good solution to our problems. But still pretty expensive right now.
Agreed. Thieaudio have their adapter solution that works but not nearly as elegant. Dunu’s is class leading. I love it.
Still your cable recommendations are fantastic. Thank you for doing all the research and testing to help the rest of us make informed purchasing decisions.
Thank you.
I was in your shoes just a few years ago. Where every recommendation for a high quality cable was above 50 usd… And they didn’t even measure that well.
I threw away a lot of money on that back then (which is the reason for my messy pile).
It was cable A3 that really started this trend of high quality, but cheap cables.
Heck, Faaeal originally sold the Hibiscus, an around 40 usd iem that people bought just to get that cable (A3) because it was so damn good at that price which was unheard of before.
Then a while after the hibiscus was released, Faaeal started selling the cable separately. Thats how we got cable A3 and all these other great cables following after it.
(ironically, we still dont have a cheaper but lower measuring cable than it to this day.)
Now we have A1 thanks to you.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Fiio lately with the FH5s dropping shortly.
The FH5s is going to be shipping probably with the same interchangeable cable as the FD5 (one of the best cables to come with an IEM). It’s going to have dual beryllium coated DD drivers as well as two BAs and Fiio is selling it for only 250 bucks? The price to performance on their products is getting crazy!
I just bought the DUNU EST 112 and the SA6, each for around 500 bucks. I do not need another IEM, but I have to support a company that is doing such a great job at design, innovation and cost savings. I have so much respect for them at the moment, as well as DUNU. Two companies killing it right now.
I have so many IEMs, I can hardly take time to enjoy one before the next one is sitting at my door. Such a horrible time to be an audiophile.
