I agree! There really is no forum where people are as calm and as accepting as on HiFi Guides.
I personally have a lot of thoughts and observations on the industry and the community. However, I mostly keep that to myself since I am never trying to bring negativity to anyone’s life, and I am also not trying to bring negativity out of anyone.
When I think of sides, I always think of the cable argument. However, it is so common for people to get in a fight just because one person disagrees about a product’s value/price. I don’t think people spend enough time putting themselves in the other person’s shoes, or seeing it from the other person’s perspective.
Yeah but the difference is here when it gets like the ASR forum or head-fi or SBAF “normal”, mods ban people.
That’s why it’s great here. Also, mods or not, I started a particular thread (months ago) about THX amps, pressed send, went to bed and expected a shitstorm next morning, but nothing happened. People here know opinions are opinions.
(mass)Drop dropping EDC, Watches, and Outdoor communities to focus more on Audiophile.
Hi everyone,
You may have noticed some changes to our site over the last few months that emphasize the Audiophile and Mechanical Keyboard Communities. We have seen tremendous growth in these Communities, and after much deliberation we have made the decision to focus our resources on these two Communities exclusively.
Over the last four years we have built a strong following and portfolio of products in the Everyday Carry and Outdoors Communities. To narrow our focus, we are transitioning our Drop Studio EDC and Outdoors products to Amazon.
We will be sunsetting the Everyday Carry and Outdoors Communities on Drop.com on March 23rd. Product pages will still be accessible by direct links or searching, and will retain their reviews and discussion sections. We are pleased to announce these products will continue to be available for purchase exclusively on Amazon. Moreover, new products will launch directly on Amazon, delivering new community-inspired products on the world's largest retail platform. Updates on these products will be shared via email to our existing Everyday Carry and Outdoor members.
This shift in focus will result in more consistent in-stock availability of these products, and will provide access to Amazon’s Prime 2-day shipping, as well as Amazon’s convenient return policy.
The Drop Store is currently live on Amazon with many of our products, with more being added every week. Please check our current stock of EDC and Outdoor gear below, and be sure to check back regularly for updates and additions.
We will also be sunsetting Watches on Drop.com, effective March 23rd. Any Watches-related product runs you’ve joined won’t be affected, and you’ll still see a few runs in our More Community Picks section.
From community polls and comment threads to the retail stage of the world, we couldn't have made these products without your contributions. While this is a big shift, we're excited to continue offering the Drop experience to new and existing customers through our partnership with Amazon.
Thank you,
Drop
Hopefully this means we’ll have better audio deals but I’m not holding my breath.
I used to buy so many kitchen goods from Drop back when they had the discount model for more purchasers. I got some really great non-audio and audio deals over the years, but I can imagine focusing their inventory on what sells had to be a driving factor
makes sense their stopping watches. as the watch community cares a lot about history and heritage so making cheaper versions of something doesn’t seem to vibe well. the outdoor and EDC on I’m kinda sad about but Ill be the first to admit I never bought anything from the EDC part of the site as just buying the non massdrop versions of things for me is generally cheaper . all those communities definitely hasn’t embraced massdrop as well as the audiophile and MK communities have. will be looking forward to the possible deals as that should open up more warehouse space for more audio and mechanical keyboard gear.
I’m interested to here if people think this is going to benefit our community or not. The main reasons I think it might be is because they might be able to store more product in drop warehouses, which means items will be in stock more often, they can buy in larger quantities(now that they have more room to store) that will hopefully trickle down to customers sharing in the associated discounts, and amazon can deal with non-audio/keyboard returns which should lead to better customer service for audio and keyboard products.
Part of me however just wishes that drop just completely shifts to amazon. Imagine being able to get drop discounts, but with 2-day shipping and amazon returns. Alas that would probably lead to less profit for drop and/or smaller discounts.
What do you guys think did I miss anything major in my analysis of the benefits and/or lack benefits? Does anyone oppose the change? This is a very interesting topic. @Sgtdap thanks for the post!
