/me sees nuclear mushroom cloud on the hirizon over Ib’s location… RIP!
Just ran into a thread over on Head-Fi regarding Sony DAP’s being updated. At least their top two. They will now come with Wi-Fi and Android 11 for all you streaming fanatics.
Looks like they used the same shells with different faceplates.
Latest sub $200 Audiosense hybrid.
yeh…and start at $4000. >.<
Pro-Ject announces the Automat A1, a direct drive TT at a very affordable $499 USD.
Yeah but the WMA1 M2 will only be $2K.
There are some reviews out by Darko and Randy the Cheap audio man. For $500 seems to expensive for a beginner, and for a audiophile going up the Debut Carbon EVO at almost the same price or the T1 for a little less seems better options. And that’s only talking about Pro-ject line-up.
It’s the fully-automatic feature-set that will sell this device.
Competing in a different category than those mentioned.
well, the article did comment on more premium dd tt from Pro-ject are expected.
Maybe you’re right. I’m just saying because I looked into it after seeing the reviews and find it rather unimpressive. The lack of any adjustments in the tonearm makes it hard to change the tracking force, a.k.a changing cartridges is very hard. This was something that killed it for me. Also both reviews said the plinth feels kind of cheap, almost plastic.
I don’t know man, I’m planning on upgrading from the AT LP60x and the feature set of this TT seems kind of lacking. Besides both Pro-jects I mentioned, for the automatic features and DD Turntable, the AT LP140x with removable headshell, S-style tonearm, adjustable feet (for leveling) and adjustable weight / VTA at little less money (usually around $450) is much more appealing. At least to me.
I usually do half day rotations with my in-rotation IEMs, and was really enjoying the Tin T3 Plus. I thought it was odd that we still don’t have a thread on that one. It has to be considered a top 5 under $100 for most people.
@Ohmboy who is the new IEM thread person ?
Oh, well, let me grab my check book then… I keed, I keed!!
Honestly, they look nice, but hard pass. To me it doesn’t do anything my phone can’t. Does it do it better? I honestly don’t know, I have not had the opportunity to hear one. Let’s just say for argument’s sake that it does… LOL!
Regardless, it isn’t going to be 2 grand better. And it’s one more thing I have to lug around. When you are on a motorcycle or mobile in the field, every square inch of your pack counts. So it doesn’t work for me. But for others, it might be perfect. I really would like to give one a listen one day to see what they are all about.
I have the NW-ZX300 and love it. I paid $799.00 for it. It does sound noticeably better and has a lot more power than my phone, which I bought specifically for audio. It doesn’t get much play anymore since I “upgraded” to the BF2 which doesn’t work with it.
I haven’t gone down the DAP rabbit hole either.
- When I am home, I have a NAS with FLAC files for my CD collection turned digital. I have it setup with DLNA, so I can connect to a bunch of different ways - VLC, Game consoles, Roku, PC, etc.
- For streaming, I typically use YouTube Music or Amazon Music.
I just looked up your DAP. Nice unit. It’s a lot smaller than I thought. I had a vision of it being cell phone sized. 800 bucks is much more reasonable to me as well. At that point one could make the argument for it.
I hear you. I would not use it when I was at home either. It would be a mobile only solution for me, and at that point, for me, it becomes kinda redundant just because I love how the phone sounds.
I assume by the time I get to be any more of a music nerd, sorry audiophile, my hearing will have started fading enough that most of those margins won’t matter anyway. I am in my mid-50s and have really good hearing for my age, but assume that my high frequency is on-the-clock.
I went with the NAS / DLNA solution because it works without internet, and my wife keeps talking about buying a small yacht ( sadly, a used one is cheaper than the houses in LA and has more space ). Just duplicating the media files would be a simple way to have movies and music onboard, then you could play on your device, no matter what it was. I am running it all on a cheap Raspberry Pi machine, that with the case cost about $50, so the storage was the expensive part of that solution.
It’s so much worse then I thought… it’s not that there’s no indication of your volume anymore… it’s a digital knob, so making a mark with a paint pen or something doesn’t even help anymore
Looks quite interesting. Maybe Oxygen-> Olina for 50$?
