Cayin RU6!?

Aliexpress

Already own a RU6, that’s how I fell in love with R2R DACs. I meant a portable DAC and not a dongle DAC. Something similar in size and performence to other heavy hitters like micro iDSD Signautre, Mojo 2, Dethonray Honey H1…

RU6 drains the phone’s battery fairly quickly, lacks power to drive Headphones well and misses out on some technicalities compared to cometition. An R2R DAC of similar size as XD-05 BAL, with an in-built battery, more power… I would buy that immediately.

Just checked Fiio’s twitter page and damn, that’s a lot of new dongles, and DAC Amps they’re announcing

That does technically exist. It’s just $3000. L&P P6 Pro

Astell&Kern have launched a new DAP they’re calling the Kann Max.

you can read all about it here:

Just $3000 huh . We have other options too like HiBy RS6, Cayin N6ii with R01 board… those are portable yes but they are DAPs, not DACs like iDSD Signature (my Fav), Mojo 2…

In my mind, R2R DAP is costlier (screen, cpu, os…) while a portable DAC won’t need extra components and so should be accessible at a lower cost.

Too bad they only give power specs with no load. But still, 15V would translate to about 7 Watts in 32 Ohm which is enough to use Susvara on the go

Wow. Reading the story this isn’t really a new development, apparently this has been brewing for quite a while. But I was certainly unaware of their financial woes. This is surprising to me. I love my Onkyo AVR that I have set up in the living room, it’s a great system. What a shame.

There were some concerns about it impacting other brands, but this seems since the ownership group owns a bunch of other audio companies.

“Premium Audio Company is comprised of three subsidiaries and includes some of the most legendary and revered brands such as Klipsch, Jamo, Mirage, ProMedia, Magnat, Heco, Mac Audio, Onkyo, Pioneer, Pioneer Elite, Integra, Teac, and Esoteric.”

This is a press release, but not the most comforting when I see credibility straining statements like this - “We have big plans for Onkyo and the other brands sold through 11TC and as we build production and expand distribution, believe sales will more than double in the near-term. Rumors or any statements to the contrary about the Onkyo brand are simply unfounded and misleading.”

Anytime a company claims their “sales will more than double in the near-term” it makes me doubt either what they were doing before, or if they know how to do math.

Agreed. My unit is old enough to where there are no warranty concerns as it is well out of warranty. If it ever breaks it will go straight to the recycle bin. Still a shame though.

In fact I am finding the whole story hard to follow. According to another story I read only 2 divisions were left; Onkyo sound, LTD and one other. The others (Onkyo Home Entertainment among them) had already been sold off. So I don’t know. We will just have to see what happens.

I will literlly never own a set this expensive but they are really nice to look at.

iFi just announced a mobile DAC / Amp they’re calling the Go Bar.

it’s essentially a miniature Zen that connects to your phone via USB-C and gives you both 4.4mm and 3.5mm S-Bal connections, iEMatch, XBass, XSpace, up to DS256 and unfortunately, MQA :stuck_out_tongue:

I cannot find it on their website though and I’m seeing CAN and US retailers advertising with it listed as ‘in stock.’

Is it just a dongle? Because ifi claims 475mW at 32 ohm which probably is the most powerful dongle (except the E1DA dac amps which have more than 500mW)

I don’t see anything about battery life so must be, looks about the size of a BTR5 so not having the battery would mean more space for POWERRRRR lol

How quickly would all that power kill a phone battery?

Charging more than the Luxury & Precision W2, Lotoo Paw S2, and Moondrop Moonriver 2 is… bold.

But almost all dongles don’t have more than 250mW with balanced, and most have even less. The E1DA DACs are the exception because they use a digital amp.
ifi doesn’t use digital amps so it’s remarkable that they achieve that much power.

most dongles are also smaller

L&P W2 MK1 could get about 4 hours on my Samsung S10 so probably less than that
