I love how one of Douk’s main marketing strategies is “Just throw some tubes on it!” Seriously though, I have only tried a few Douk/Nobsound/Little Bear products and they have all actually exceeded my expectations. The Douk U3 Mini amp that I got for my workshop mini rig is damn good for the money, but it also makes for a fantastic modding platform. The Little Bear B4-X is a cool little device and also very moddable. Last, but definitely not least, the Douk U2 Pro I recently picked up can do some pretty amazing things with cleaning up mid-fi DACs, bringing back quite a bit of lost detail and dynamics. It’s performance is really quite eye opening given the price.
I don’t do much in the way of EQ/tone controls, but if I was looking for a unit I would definitely be down to try this guy out.
Also, I have no need for it, but that little portable EQ from Jaben Oriolus looks like it would be pretty fun/cool to play with. I know people were asking about who needs to EQ separate mono channels and I can say that I know producers and sound engineers that do it quite a bit when checking elements within a mix or determining how much more presence to add to a given part/instrument/voice/track. It can be similarly useful for critical listening situations when you’re trying to catch a particularly hard to hear elemebt or section. Either way, I want to check this out. I have a friend who would love it and who happens to have a BDay coming up it so I might just have to pick one up and verify its functionality before I give it to him.
Yup, I figured I would give it a shot after seeing him dig it and running across one with upgraded clocks going for even cheaper used from a trusted source. The difference it makes with some of my mid-fi gear isn’t even subtle. It’s easily noticeable and I’ve been very impressed.
I’ve been pretty happy with it too. The driver installation is a little bit sketchy at first glance, but it’s safe. And for use as an entry DDC (though I wouldn’t bother if you have a Schiit DAC with their Unison USB, that’s good enough on it’s own), or as a secondary connection between your PC and DAC if you also use a streamer, then it’s good value.
@Michael The reason I haven’t tried the Douk is because I have been happy
with the sound I get from my Schiit Bifrost OG to Loki (when needed) to the
Asgard 3. Just curious, as ddc’s etc seem to be discussed a lot lately.
I also found the addition of the Nordost Blue Heaven usb cable improved things
too, tho the BF was the BIG improvement, lol.
German reviewer who gets a lot of review samples from the official German fiio distributer seems to got a pre production sample of a upcoming Fiio FT3 with 32 Ohm. Tuning seems to be a little more bassy.
That is what I thought at first, but then you look at them deeper and you can see that there is a lot going on with these. More than meets the eye that is for sure.
I noted that as well. The look is a subjective thing. I am not a huge fan, but I don’t think they’re terrible either. I guess they are still too new, as I have yet to find a comprehensive review on them. I am curious about the driver being used
I don’t see any indicator of a serious designers’ presence in its design. I am particularly not fond of the ear-cups, the weird-looking part with the Fiio logo…
