Is it a BT receiver or just a dongle? Haven’t heard about it.
it looks like a slightly bigger M15 with bluetooth but also capable of being a dongle both battery powered and usb powered it seams. Some pictures from CanJam. CanJam SoCal 2024 Impressions Thread (September 28-29, 2024) | Page 5 | Headphone Reviews and Discussion - Head-Fi.org
I appreciate it! Google hadn’t been helpful so far.
EDIT: I’d searched M16i, that could be part of it
Oh it’s approx $300… so not really a relevant competitor price wise.
Might be as I wrote M16i and is M18i
Have edit the other post after your search.
Well seams smaller and I do like the sound of the M15c(in the limited testing I have done) so if I could get that with bluetooth added on without the price tag and feature set of the CMA18 then 100$ might be something to consider plus Questyle tend to have better QA then FIIO.
Kinera Celest Rue $13 6mm titanium DD
Suggested graph looks good on the whole, and it comes in yellow besides more common colors.
Can’t say a 3DD for $50, supposedly bery coated, isn’t a neat looking deal…
I posted this in the wrong thread and now it wasn’t letting my paste it here, a spam precaution I guess, let’s see if adding this sentence first will let me post it:
If the JM21 was non-Android and ran some light custom music-playing only OS, I would probably give in and get it.
If someone left the FiiO JM21 and the Hiby R1 in a drawer to make sweet music together, whatever would come of the union is something I would buy.
Until that day… I’m going to hold off. Much harder to make money than to spend it.
Just out of curiosity and with no mean intents- what features of JM21 you would miss going for either Hiby R3 II or Shanling M1 plus? Screen, processing power?
I am still waiting for a Hiby R1 at $85 sounds interesting.
But damn love the sound of the little Shanling M1 Plus still blowing me away.
For me form factor, hated button placement on the Shanling and not fond of the knob on R3 II. Hiby OS struggles to use AAC with my iPhone rather than bad SBC too making it not seamless to use as a receiver when I want to do that. Also can’t load half the album artwork half the time.
Good question no offense taken
I’ll have to say, the Shanling M0 was very practical for its price when it was my first DAP, and Shanling update their players for years and years.
(ironically pretty much the best codec out there IF everyone except like Linux didnt lock access to SBC-XQ…)
To clarify, I wasn’t trying to phrase it as “bad because it’s SBC”, but whatever SBC it reverts to does sound bad, so I’m assuming it’s not one of the good cases of SBC.
oh I get what you mean, pretty much all SBC are bad and you NEED to be on Linux (or some specific custom android rom) to have access to SBC-XQ. Although on Android, SBC performance is more consistent and can be comparable to a bad AAC implementation, on apple AAC is as much as I hate to praise apple, good.
New, black, improved (?) and cheaper version ($250) of the Grell OAE1.
- Black color
- Less clamping force (3.5N > 3.0N)
- Single sided cable (Picture shows a 2.5mm 4 pin so maybe balanced is still possible)
- No case
- Same Tuning though
Luckily I was able to sell my OAE1 Signature fast and without a loss. Sounded just too dull with almost no treble.

Topping makes instrument equipment now?
I still have mine as a reminder that fomo can bite you in the ass pretty hard.
Still, it’s weird that they reduced the clamping force. That wasn’t the problem imho, it is the limited extension of the headband that is not enough for people with a slightly larger than average head. Especially when positioning is so crucial for this headphone.
Apologies I was thinking of the M1S. The M1 Plus looks wonderful (apart from knob instead of buttons for one-handed volume changing, or volume change in a pocket). So good rec there! JM21’s value more questionable next to that besides some people seeing Android as a perk for streaming, where I actually would rather have non android for a tiny music player.
Hopefully I’ll have my JM21 in hand soon, but from what I understand, it’s a pretty stripped down and custom Android OS. I personally don’t hate Android, but I was actually excited to hear that it’s a toned down version at least.
I’m thinking about grabbing M1 Plus very soon
Honestly, the first thing I thought when you said you hated button placement on Shanling is that you mixed M1S with M1 Plus. But M1 Plus has strange buttons’ design as well.
But what was happening and what drugs were circulatiing in the design team of M1S that put a “go” decision on that piece of terrible UX is beyond my imagination
I am expecting mine to arrive in few weeks as well - where did you read about stripped down version of Android?

In the video it looks quite standard and if only the touch responsiveness looks bad
