Yeah. I bought the BT adapter for my plus and I would not have bought it without that option. But I can get a decent DAP for $430 (Fiio M11 is at $399 now), but it is a great Dac/amp. If I didn’t have the plus, I would be tempted.
It has bluetooth reception capabilities according to the site ("Bluetooth Formats: AAC、SBC、aptX、aptX LL、aptX HD、LDAC ") but I bet Zeos will not approve nonetheless because it has only a single play/pause button and none for skipping the tracks this was his major complaint concerning the Xduoo XP-2 … still possible that double- / triple-tap will work.
Yeah good catch, the lacks of skipping buttons could be a deal breaker for some, me included. Although it remains to be seen if the bluetooth is indeed integrated, i remember the confusion about their page on the Basic version, people thought it was built-in but you needed to buy the 05BL separately. They could still come up with a new bluetooth pairing to squeeze even more money lol. (i’m guessing by the pics the new AES port wouldn’t work with the current 05BL Pro ?)
I was considering the amp, but even though im drunk right now I’m not really sure i understand these new products out of mytek…
The amp looks good in and of itself, but it’s seemingly based on the same circuit topology as other 888 amps, so even if you back out the $350 for the sundara’s it seems over priced relative to the 789 or the monoprice…
They talk about a new $995 MQA capable dac (seemingly) based on the ESS9038 with an included 3w HP amp, but they stop short of posting any info really about the dac’s measurements. I’d say at this points it’s a foregone conclusion that the implementation around the chip is at least as important as what exact chip is being used so i’m not sure this means much.
For the sake of argument let’s assume it measures as well as the best 9038 implementations we’ve seen seen thus far, the dac being single ended still (kinda) implies that you’ll have a balanced amp… so with that in mind the cost still doesn’t make sense.
I could get an M500 (also based on the 9038 pro) for $400 and a THX 789 for $300 (total ~$700) and still come out with a fully balanced setup on seemingly the same architecture for less cash…
(apologies for any typos, i wasn’t kidding when i said i was drunk)
Cambridge refreshing their Dacmagic entry/mid range offer. Dacmagic 200m is about to release in February, for 500 bucks.
They got rid of the Wolfson chip and introduced Dual ESS instead. I wish the bluetooth goes to LDAC but for some reasons it’s limited to Aptx (not even HD), oh well.
It has a lot of competitions in this price range but i’m curious to hear the first feedbacks about it.
Only wish they sold with that smaller case like the 2. That makes it much more portable. Still, interesting to see if they sound better than the open, as most say about DC headphones.
yep price seems good and I’m digging the gold on navy colors… Just hope it sounds like a closed back clear and less like the Elegia. Hoping it delivers on the bass as well if you wear glasses and don’t get a perfect seal.
Comes with only one cable: 1/8th inch SE TRS terminated, 4 foot long simple black rubber with 1/4 inch adapter. Apparently normal and acceptable. Connects to both ear cups so presumably possibility of using a 3rd-party balanced?
Re sound signature: FWIW, Focal says both that the Celestee addresses the concern with lack of bass in Elegia but also has good upper-mids and treble. Presumably, we’ll get Resolve’s GRAS FR measurement graph soon in the Headphones.com product thread. Not sure he’d feel comfortable displaying it on the live stream, given a Focal rep will be participating.
(BTW, if I can go OCD for a moment, based on spelling pronunciation should be pretty much the same in English as in French: sel-es-tee. IOW, the first three syllables of celestial but with none of the syllables accented. But the actual French word for celestial is céleste, pronounced more like si-lest. So I’ll be listening to hear how the Focal rep pronounces the first syllable, lol.)
The closest pronunciation to Céleste would be say-lest (still not perfect but better than si-lest, which imo sounds wrong).
As for the actual headphones, i’m also glad to see the price tag reasonable, by the look of it and pads material used i expected a bit more. Even here in EU the price (999€) isn’t inflated which is nice to see. If it does better than Elegia then Focal has a winner i think.
