4XX, 5XX, 6XX, 7XX and now 8XX. I think I know what their next one will be called too
There’s 3(5)X and 9(5)X so I suppose 3 and 5 are covered now lol
I think i might actually roll the dice ¯_(ツ)_/¯
A fun gift to my future self after i will almost certainly have forgotten all about it.
EDIT: they posted an FR chart
EDIT 2:
The backup plan
So basically they fixed the bass and made everything else worse. That crazy rise from 1.5K to 2.5K smfh…
If it was under 1k then maybe,… Maaaaybe. But over and i am a wait and watcher
Sooo, they change the bass, cut the upper mids/low treble and made it even brighter? Lmfao that’s a hard pass from me… not worth. Like the equivalent of a pad swap.
I was hopeful for a massive savings like 58x that might push this into the $800 range.
I’ll haunt the used market about 18 months from now.
311 sold over 5 hours after launch. I’m new around here so I’ve never seen a Drop launch before, but that seems underwhelming.
give it a day. and keep in mind that Drop isn’t a household name and $1100 is still a lot of coin.
That’s probably enough to justify the drop, generally they are looking to fund the first round of production, and since they are manufacturing in the senheiser plant, most likely they just have to cover wholesale costs, for however many units are in am minimum batch.
I think the he5xx sold out in a week.
Let’s be real here - there’s no way drop will deliver these in Nov 21. You’ll see those in 2022 only.
Drop does have a history of over promising and under delivering when it comes to ship ETA’s… LoL!
So when they promise 9 months in the future… Yeah. No. $3.3 million will earn some nice interest in that time.
It’s usually only an issue if they are doing the manufacturing, in this case it seems Sennheiser is manufacturing.
Not that, that guarantees anything, but it probably reduces the risk.
Just seems to me you’d be better off buying a used 800S given the list price, be interesting to see what the reviews have to say about them.
That’s a good point… They tend to drop the ball on that and their Chinese orders.
I’m not sure it’s really dropping the ball, just the complexities of supply chains and manufacturing, takes one vendor to not fulfill on time, and your months late.
The custom keycaps have been about the worst examples IME, I had one set the delayed for almost 6 months over color matching the renders, ended up flying the designer to the manufacturer.
whether a used HD800S is worth it or not is an unknown. while we see the frequency graph of the HD8xx, how they actually sound and whether it’s better is an unknown.
…so in short; time will tell!
Found a review, hope it helps
