The Schiit FAQ makes me think both outputs are active at the same time:
In bypass mode: “Balanced uses one phase of the SE, SE uses the positive phase of balanced.”
Is it really balanced: “It’s balanced and differential in and out, uses both phases in, and provides both differential phases out. However, EQ processing is done with a single-ended buffer and gain stage.”
I think the concern is using both outputs simultaneously while in bypass mode is like a weird Y-connector. I wonder if it would have some left-right channel imbalance if both outputs are connected at the same time? Maybe not, but something to look for.
When the filter is active I see no reason why both outputs couldn’t be active at the same time. All signal processing is SE anyway. So then just a matter of having two active buffers.
I’d love it if they could come out with a “Sysius” which has the same sort of functionality as the Lokius but without the EQ since I wouldn’t use that.
