Yes, I don’t really care what people do as long as it doesn’t get misleading to others lol. As long as people end up satisfied with their setup it’s all good lol
for the record I’m obviously joking about the walnut and it making it sound warmer lol
But what about warmer feeling? The Walnut makes it look more warm and inviting compared to the all metal box lol
it does add a cozy factor for sure
Part of the appeal to tube amps is just staring at the damn thing while it’s making music… so I think walnut is kind of worth it, personally. Lol
Yup. It sets the mood.
It’s often referred to as “staging” in several industries.
I laughed out loud when, during a detailed discussion of SINAD audibility and noise floors, somebody chimed in an said"
“The best value audio upgrade: a bag of weed.”
This was on the ASR forum, of all places. It had me rolling. Point is, as Giova articulated well above, this is supposed to be fun!
Asr is a good side when take a look the product is good enough and not more.
I don‘t like this side, many People the think only while the result are good and Hype the goodie. And this is redicuilusin my eye‘s.
Buy it what the Ear‘s say and no what other says.
I can understand Mon what he say, safe the money first before let it down.
Sure Rupert is a good product but sure not all are good. Many Producter make‘s bullshit in her programs.
Correct, there are some really poor products that were backed by some well respected people in the music industry (at least before they backed the product lol)
What I do not understand correctly is that there are some good Dac / amps but the performance output is quite bad in the amplification. Or even with normal co-headphone amplifiers. If you sometimes see 430 mw at 32 ohms and a Schiit Magni, Vali, Atom and many more can just about 4 times spend, then I find the prices to be completely exaggerated. Especially back then there were headphones that could tolerate much more and Fostex, old ones Denon or the first Audize Hifiman listeners who literally asked for power. Certainly certain headphones at the time were enough for the performance. But today they are no longer future-proof and still charge a high price if you still produce it. I don’t think so It’s okay, but obviously it still sells quite well when you’re at the snake oil seller. See Lindeman, for example, the product is highlighted everywhere. But when I look at the specs, I already know in the front quickly gets bored and wants something new. Because the headphones are never really exhausted. What would happen if you took the Rupert with you Vali2 or Magni in one go? Can sometimes work wonders.
OK…300mv doesn’t seem right to me. I mean, I’m sure it’s accurate, but with a set of Hifiman Arya (hard-ish to drive planars) the RNHP is to comfortable listening level at 11:30. My Phonitor (on low gain) needs to go to 1:00 for the same level.
I don’t know what that means, but there you are.
Oh, and yes, I re-purchased the RNHP. Amazon must think I’m nuts. Sad part is that I returned the little grey lego wiuth the first one by accident. So I’ve transitioned to a black one. Hah.
The black Lego piece fits with the rest better.
It’s mainly the gain difference here rather than power
Also, what do you think of the arya on there?
Black Lego club
Yeahhhhhhhh. I guess you’re right. The gain is huge. Really I was surprised it would drive them so handily.
It sounds good on the RNHP. Softer around the edges…and I think maybe less bass punch but I’m not sure about that. I’m still on the fence preference wise with the two amps. Both sound very good.
The best way I’ve heard them described is the RNHP is more, wait for it… musical. The Phonitor has more power and is more of an analytical presentation.
They’re both great amps.
I’m trying to avoid using that word, but dammit if it’s not exactly right!!
I don’t think I would actually call it ““musical””, I think it’s generally just a more real to life sound and presentation
I’m really looking forward to a full-featured amp from Fidelice. I don’t know when, but I’m fairly certain they’ll be releasing one in the future.
That comparison to the Phonitor is going to be fun.
I received the rnhp and enog2 pro yesterday, along with xlr cables. I was lucky to have it all show up on the same day .
Initial impressions comparing to my jotunheim with multibit dac. Well they’re close I feel to be honest. It’s not that night and day difference that you get with headphones to be sure. Almost close enough to make me wonder why I got it lol. But I definitely do hear some difference. The bass impact on them feels pretty identical. Honestly on some songs they sound entirely the same. They both are very detailed, I would say equal detail. They are also both very quiet with music off. The rnhp seems to have a little less noise overall but it’s so close that I can barely tell. The only time I hear more noise on the jotunheim is when I crank it all the way up with no sounds coming in, and I mean well past the point you’d ever listen to it on.
So why the hell did I buy this?
Okay, hears the main difference. The treble, mids, and highs come off a bit smoother. Quite a bit. They doesnt sound harsh at all on the jot, but are somehow even smoother on the rnhp. That’s the biggest and nearly only difference I hear. This is a very welcome change of course. It’s what makes the more natural presentation I read about. This also makes vocals, mainly female, have a smoother and better impact.
The soundstage May seem wider? But I could just be crazy. Could also be because it’s smoother I’m thinking this. Separation is also the same I feel. Honestly, it makes me feel that the jot is holding up for its age pretty well. They sound so close with the jot sounding like 1% harsher on the higher frequencies. But like everyone said, the rnhp is a great amp, very natural and overall better than my jot minus the power.
To sum up, very similar to each other but the rnhp comes out smoother, more natural, but still retaining all the detail. I’m definitely keeping it as the smoother highs works well with some of my headphones that already have more forward higher frequencies.
I actually do prefer the jot with my nighthawks though. I think because it’s more analytical leaning, it kinda makes the nighthawks sound more levels and gives more spark to the treble and highs that the nighthawk is missing. So that’s kinda my conclusion and use case it seems. Warmer headphones on the jot since it’s more analytical. More neutral or even colder headphones on the rnhp. Also anything needing more power on the jot for obvious reasons.
Conclusion part 2: I’m definitely satisfied with my solid states for a while. Next up (after a cool down period of course) will be my first tube amp, probably the tuba unless I find something else in the mean time.
