šŸ”· Schiit Modius

Seems odd that there are reviews on YouTube for the atom dac (dms did one), and now a review from zeos on the gishelli erish, but no modius review. In the erish review zeos says ā€œyou can’t get a cheaper balanced dac than the enog2ā€. But… you can, and this seems better.

Is there a reason this hasn’t hit those reviewers yet?

I would guess that it is due to the problems people are reporting with 'resume from sleep no sound ’ that is happening with them… There is at least one reviewer that said his review was going to be end of the month… just my 3 cents

I was just about to order the Asgard 3 with the multibit card. Should I get this instead? Same price but I guess this could leave more room to upgrade the Asgard down the road.

Seems like a good solution. Having a separate dac will also allow you to use more inputs, and with this dac you can feed rca and xlr devices are the same time

Personality I would get the Modius over the multibit card.

Schiit didn’t send them review units in advance. JDS labs sends them review units like a month before launch, so by the time the device is launched they already have the review.

Ah, this makes sense. Thanks

The only units I see out there were sent to ASR and SBAF…and those comments are up for all to read.

Just to update on my Modius USB issue (PC won’t boot with it connected). They are paying for me to return my unit and are sending a new one out.

Great customer service…

I had that issue with the Modius not responding after a system sleep with Win 10. After an unplug/replug it would work but also with a random funky issue like it muting my system.

I sent mine in earlier this week and received my replacement today. Upon initial testing, it seems to work fine. Time will tell.

Just want to chime in as someone who has had no issues with modius on Win10 or macos

The experience with my Modius has been great so far. No problem with booting my PC or waking it up from standby. (everything on Win10)

I’ll say I’m very glad to hear that schiit is handling those who are having problems in a professional way. I absolutely expect this, but have seen some poor customer service from some companies historically.

I didn’t think it was a big deal. But I just emailed support to tell them what I was experiencing and they pretty much gave me an immediate return label. They cross shipped a new DAC the next day after I handed it over to FedEx. I’ve been trying to recreate the issue, so far so good.

They’ll probably fix and offer as b-stock someday.

After my day 1 issue with windows (work machine) I haven’t had a problem with mine either. I’m pissed though, it makes my THX 887 good enough to keep around now. Right when I was getting ready (emotionally) to sell that amp.

Good match with the thx887? I am thinking of pairing it with my thx789.

can confirm, works extremely well with THX798, tames the sharpening quite effectively.

Just an update:

I had a Modius that when plugged into my PC’s USB, my PC would not boot.

Schiit very quickly did an exchange for a replacement (they paid shipping).

Unfortunately, I have received my new Modius and the issue remains.

Note that this issue does not occur with any other DACs I’ve had (d10k, d30, e30). Does anyone have any new thoughts on this? I have disabled USB boot in my bios. I have tried every USB port on my PC. Any other suggestions?

I see that some already suggested this but didn’t see a direct response, have you looked at the USB selective suspend setting in the advanced power settings in control panel?
