šŸ”· Schiit Modius

Puh,can try it again with the other dacs you have ?
I hope you donā€™t have sell it.
So test it and report this problem is the same or not.
When is the same maybe the Usb port have a issue on your pc.

So when possible try the modius on a other Pc. So you can check is the Pc or the Dac.
The same with other dac.
So you can better say who came the issue.

Maybe when the Usb port on the Pc is to old Usb 1 they gives problems.
But i think is not this.

Your bios think oh usb Port is connected i start with it a find no Data, bios stop the progress.
Other possibility is the driver from Schiit for the modius have a issue.

Selective suspend? Didnā€™t see that. Iā€™ll look into it. Thanks.

Tried changing selective suspend settings. Same issue regardless.

Ok, thatā€™s too bad.

Do you know the type of motherboard your PC has?

As mentioned above, do you have another computer to plug it into? A friendā€™s or family memberā€™s?

Try plugging the Modius into a powered USB hub or behind a hub with switches.
Could be that the start-up-current it pulls results in the motherboard failing a self test.

Edit: Or try hooking a power supply to the Modius, it has the port for it.

Did a test with my work laptop: boots fine.

I have an HP Omen PC (probably 3 years old now).

I have tried it with a power supply and without. I do not have a powered USB hub.

Thatā€™s an interesting thought. Iā€™ll have to figure out how to look for that.

Hello,
When it works fine on your Laptop and the modius make no problems.
I think the problem is the Pc who a issue.

Possible is the Usb driver are maybe old.Check it for updates.
When possible deinstall the Usb driver from the Pc and make a restart.
After this windows must be update the actually driver.

Simple example i have change the Pc from my Media room to the Living room.
The pc from the living romm are newer as the the other.
I put the Wlan repeater inside an after 5-10 min the Pc crahsed.
I habe changed the Mouse,ect.
Later i replace the Wlan repeater and all works be fine.

I used to work for the IBM PC company in hardware and software compatibilty and ran into these
types of issues ALL the time!!

First thing we did was to make sure all the updates from all the vendors were up to the correct levels.

Its now mostly done in the background now with the latest OSā€™sā€¦but there still are glitchesā€¦

To check you should be able to go to the vendors wesbite and support page and find your laptop pc and bios etcā€¦this may or may not resolve your issue but its one less thingā€¦

Seeing how this works on other pcs, then definitely there is an issue with your Omens hardware or softwareā€¦dont know if you apply all the latest W10 updates as wellā€¦another good thing to check.

Good luckā€¦

Win10 Version 2004 broke a lot of stuff, so after that update I went round to update ALL driversā€¦

Just did the bios update per @lost33ā€™s suggestion. PC is fully up-to-date and the issue remains.

Frustrating.

I keep hoping Schiit will send me a message with something to try, but nothing from them on that end yet.

Do you have any other PC or Mac that you can try it on? This seems dissimilar to the issue I was having, which a replacement Modius fixed.

I had an issue similar to this with a different USB device a while ago.

Yeah, no problem with my work laptop.

Probably been asked but what happens if you boot the Omen then plug in the modius? and have you tried different cables?

Yeah figured it was specific to that one PC, I canā€™t remember how I fixed that issue.

The Modius works fine if plugged in after my PC boots.

I have tried different cables.

uninstall and reinstall usb drivers?.. It is clearly not the modius but is the Omenā€¦If it works fine elsewhere then it has to beā€¦ Hp in the past has had some flaky driversā€¦
