đŸ”¶ Sennheiser HD560s

Yea it is.

Yea
going to take some time with these. But I am having that real nice wow factor with them so far. Will at least say, pretty damn nice soundstage and imaging.

can you only order these from Senn directly right now cause I can’t find any listings on Amazon.ca :stuck_out_tongue:

I ordered them from the Sennheiser website. But now see that headphones.com is also selling them: https://www.headphones.com/products/sennheiser-hd-560s

I’d prefer a CDN reseller if possible

So Far I like the 560s, they remind me of a baby Elex. Also, their cable kind of sucks but this one works. I used to use these for the Neumanns NDH20:

Finally the 560s arrived tonight!

First impressions after an hour:
The 560S sounds like a brighter and more technically capable 58X.

Very neutral, DMS described them well. Maybe a little cold and elevated in the upper midrange from 4-5 kHz, at least compared to the HD 58X and Focal Clear. Almost reminds me of the X2HR in that regard, but much cleaner with no grain. And easily fixed with EQ.

Bass and treble extension is very good, it took me by surprise. Surprisingly, there is a little more treble extension/air here than the Clear! The Clear still wins in realism and detail, but there is just more treble presence past 10kHz than both the Clear and 58X. The bass impact and clarity is also better than the 58X.

The imaging is a pretty big improvement over the 58X, there is a very defined center image right in front of you, and it spans very well from left to right with no blind spots, similar to the Clear. Although vocals still sound a little better to me on the 58X, most everything is cleaner on the 560S. You lose some of that familiar warmth of the 600 (58X) series headphones, and replace it with tighter bass, more treble, and better defined imaging and soundstage.

Comfort, maybe the most comfortable headphones I’ve worn so far actually! They are very light, and the clamp force is perfect. Not nearly as clampy as the 58X/600/650, earcups are large enough to cover my larger than average ears. I like the design a lot better on the 560S, fits my head better and has more adjustment than the old 600 style headband.

Kind of long first impressions, but I am loving them so far. If you prefer warmer/darker headphones like the 650, the 560S probably won’t be for you. But if you like more neutral and technical stuff and are willing to play with EQ, I think it’s a great compliment to one of the older 600 series Sennheisers, especially the 58X. I would also take them for gaming over most anything, because of the comfort and imaging.

Hopefully someone can find a usable balanced cable. I want to be able to hook these up to the 2.5mm out on the btr5 and btr3k.

Yeah, I want a 2.5mm balanced option too for portable. I’ve built a few cables before, but this 560S cable uses a new connector with a twist lock. I think I’ll either get a spare cable and replace the end, or find out if someone is making these 2.5mm twist lock connectors.

I posted an unbalanced cable that works earlier in this thread.

I’m going to have to update my impressions of the 560S after a few days.
After more comparisons with the 58X, I think I still prefer the 58X’s sound signature over the 560S, even though the 560S has better technical performance. The 58X to me just sounds more natural. You do lose some bass tightness and treble extension however, so the 560S is still better in those areas. But since the 58X is more intimate, I often feel like the midrange is more cohesive and realistic. The 560S even with EQ is still more forward in the lower treble/upper mids, which can at times make vocals and instruments too forward and shouty. So for details, soundstage, and analytical listening, the 560S is great. But for that natural and warm old school Sennheiser sound, 58X is better for my preferences.

New review, this time from Joshua.

After listening to him and some other reviews, Think I may pass on this. So thanks to those who wrote their thoughts on it. I might get around it at some point since I know a lot of friends who love Sennheiser as a brand but, it probably won’t be one I buy.

It is interesting to see that the majority of reviews compare the HD560S with other headphones from the sennheiser portfolio and that the testers are either disappointed or surprised.

I’ve had it on my ears a lot for a week now because I still think these cans are an absolute bargain.

The problem is:

At first they don’t sound like sennheiser!
The first impression I had was more or less confirmed in the course of my listening sessions.

Whoever has a Focal Elex or Clear from you, take it, listen to it and imagine you will get a very similar sound signature, just in a plastic case and for $ 200.
The Clear has more punch and is more defined in the details, but the senni is not that far away.

With that in mind, makes the 560 attractive in a completely different way.

I can see that. If you are looking for a “Sennheiser headphone” and compare it to other Sennheiser headphones you’ll be disappointed. If you’re purely looking for a very capable headphone for the price you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The 560s does sound like a baby Elex. I would say you get 50% to 60% of the Elex for 1/3rd of the cost.

Excellent call! Resolve just published his HD 560S measurements, and the match with the Elex is eerily close:

Essentially, the HD 560S is tuned to the 2018 Harman target but with a bass that’s flat out to 40 Hz (taking into account the slight elevation imparted by a typical room gain).

Note that this differs from the AKG K371, which has the full Harman 6 dB bass boost.

So I never post on forums but some might know me from another chat. I own the 560s AND I have a balanced cable for them. They are really good cans and balanced, off something like the a90, are very enjoyable. I like them better than my unmodded DT880 (600ohm) and balanced 660s. If you want a well rounded, just great sounding set of cans give them a shot, and then go balanced for ultra separation, stage and imaging.

Hey @CBT what balanced cable are you using? I bought one for the 560s but had to return it since it was too short for connecting to the earcup itself

So, is there anywhere I can just order these from right now?
