đŸ”¶ Sennheiser HD58x Jubilee

I bought these used a few months ago and have been very impressed. I had never even considered these when they first came out. I am one of the few that bought the HD6XX’s and did NOT like them. That kind of soured me on Sennheiser. But then I remembered the HD598c’s which were the best $99.00 headphones I ever bought.

I bought them and they blew away the HE4XX’s (which I didn’t like anyway). Since I bought them used, I also picked up a balanced cable. They sound very good out of every amp I own. My new SP200 amp took some real “getting used to”. These were the first headphones that sounded good out of it, although by that time I was probably adjusting to the new amps sound signature.

Around the same time I bought a pair of used Shure 1540’s and these sound noticeable better. Of course open back always have an advantage.

These are a real nice all rounder and are what I reach for when I am looking for a change from my current headphone, whatever that might be.

Anyone else find it strange that in the emails they still use the pre production pictures of the 58x? Also 25 bucks off

Huh
 What’s the difference. Headband padding?

Yes, and also it has the regular 650 frame so it would look super similar to a 650, and you can also see it has no foam in bacj

I was wondering why the photos look different. I’m into the 650 look though.

I mean change out a few parts, you could probably get to that look. lol All the 600 parts are interchangeable.

:fire: HOT TAKE :fire: The 58X are priced properly and other headphone brands (including Sennheiser) have to catch up with them price to perfomance wise :boom: :boom: :boom:

considering the price of the 4xx, dt 880 , argons, blon b20’s ior generall other headphones considered good value and such I kinda agree with this comment . to me the 650, 660 , 600 are overpriced and their MSRP pricing really skews many people’s perceptions on what good value the massdrop offerings are.

Hey gamers wanting to know does the 58X get affected as much as the 6XX with tubes?

Not as much because the 58x is alot less picky about how it’s driven. It does make a noticable and pleasing difference, but it’s def not as big as the 6 series (excluding the 660s because that’s going to react similarly to the 58x regarding tubes)

So i got the 58x just a few days ago, mabye 5 now. And after i got them i immediately took a liking to them, similiar to the Blon 03 i found that initially they weren’t jaw dropping nor anything of the kind. But the more i listened to them the more i grew to absolutely love them, right now i am obsessed with how good these sound. The bass is pretty good, mids are great and the highs are surprisingly good and detailed. I listen to rap, classical, kpop etc and there has not been a single genre that sounds bad or even just less good. I have found them to make rap sound good with a nice smooth bass, vocals really stand out as they are the placed forward so they always stand out quite well while maintaining good seperation between them and the instruments in the sides. HIGHS are surprisingly good and tame most sharp female voices perfectly which has helped me listen to my precious kpop without fatigue for any periods of time. THey have their own calm vibe which help me listen to some indie bands (soft cute songs) and i have ALMOST zero gripes.

One thing that really caught me off guard when i first put them on was how narrow the soundstage felt, it almost felt like an iem (soundstagewise). It took me a while, maybe 3 full days to finally get used to it and honestly, not even a problem and i don’t notice how small it is anymore. ANother is the pads, they hug your ear too much i prefer circle cups way more. That is something else that i got used to and dosen’t bother me at all anymore. And finally the headband was too tight, HOWEVER after using a trick that mon sent me i was able to loosen it up so much that it’s not even a problem either.

So at the end of the day, these play everything and i mean everything well, have no problems with the sound and all the physical issues were solvable quickly. These are so precious to me now that i could never live without them. I know they are 150 bucks which is great,i would even pay 200 for these and maybe even 220, don’t know if i would go higher than that since i know there are probs some sweet cans at that price lol. I personally paid 75 thanks to a SAINT kind gentleman, so maybe i’m extra into them lol. I recommend these to anyone looking for a super pleasant unoffensive sound, super sweet cans

Edit : amongst the 4xx and DT 770 these are the most still my favorite, they definitely benefit from an amp, with the liquid spark in particular the bass becomes more punchy if that’s what you’re interested in.

Does the 58x have the Sennhieser veil too?

Yes, but it’s better extended than the 600 or 650 so not as much. Having the Sennheiser house sound isn’t a bad thing though, it’s more preference based

I really like it for that
really chill treble but the detail is good when you listen for it

Well im listening to these headphones and sometimes they sound positively dark. I love the treble on them not sibilant at all. but the trade off is darkness

It’s less prominent treble than others you currently own. With more listening you may find you get used to it and no longer find it that dark but who knows

I don’t think these headphones are for me. These sound kinda honky or nasally to me now. Especially when switching back and forth to my Argons. I guess I don’t like mid forward headphones.

maybe it’s also just too direct a comparison lol, sometimes switching between the 4xx to the 58x they sound kind of hazey. just depends on my mood

That’s the opposite for me lol. I got T50RP (a bit modded, not argons) and I recently said in the T50RP thread that my HD58X sounded V-shaped after only using the T50RPs for a few days. Obviously after a few minutes all is perfect.

I definitely don’t hear any “haziness”. All the detail in the world is there, just not
thrown at your ears with surgical precision like only planars can do heh.

Edit: And I honestly still don’t know which one sounds more natural. They’re just impressive but different.
