interesting that you are unable to call them warm either. quite curious

They’re a bit bass boosted, but not bloated.
They got excellent, excellent treble and “air”.
So they’re warm, but clear AF at the same time.
So they’re not warm as in a warm blanket.
They’re warm as in a day in the sun at the beach with zero clouds in the sky.
So they’re clear as a clear sky, but definitely not cold. :stuck_out_tongue:

I might be wrong but I believe the “haziness” of HD58Xs you hear after switching from planars is just the “haziness” of dynamic driver headphones, compared to planar speed, dynamics and effortlessness, lol.

F’n planars, man, you don’t need coffee with that.

True but I actually don’t get that way with my shp9500. I’ve pad swapped my shps and got a pretty similar sound signature to the argons. Switching back and forth between those two made me contemplate selling my Argons. Even now that my shps have this thunderous bass it’s still sounded clearer, more separated, and less hazy than the 58x. The 58x treble is less grainy and a bit more detailed in some songs but the shoutyness makes it harsh for most of the music I listen to. I tried listening to it for 5 days straight and still the same result. Maybe I’m going crazy😬. Imma go see a therapist now.

I’m guessing if you just press them while they’re on your ears, you get the sound you want.

Extend your 58X to the maximum size, twist the metal parts of the headband to get a better “seal”.
If it’s not enough, leave em on a yoga block for a few hours.
Repeat if needed.

Another case where pads make a huge difference. I swapped brainwavz angled hybrid pads on these now I really like them.

how much power do these need
because i need to know if i need an amp or i can just use my laptops headphone jack

You can use them off of a phone or laptop just fine :+1:. They benefit from an amp and dac but def don’t need one

i just wanted to know because i dunno if id really hear a difference with a DAC and i only really want my headphones to be decently loud enough (i mean my M50s only need the volume at 16 to be loud enough so i wanna make sure there is enough)

They can make me deaf on my Samsung Note 3. Don’t worry about volume. :stuck_out_tongue:

the only other reason i would have is i have a FEW 24 bit 96k files but i dunno if i will hear a difference with a dac i just wanna know the full experience

My experience with HD58X was
“I didn’t knew mp3s could sound like that”.

I already told you DACs make the least difference in sound, it’s pretty much the same with bitrate (16bit/44.1khz CD quality vs higher than that).

Well, the full experience is, feeling like you’re in the studio, and hearing all the details as if you were there.
Good luck, because “the full experience” pretty much means “endgame” for everyone here, and most people here believe “endgame” doesn’t exist. :stuck_out_tongue:

But the HD58X will give you a damn good taste of what it is, especially for its price.

my endgame is to basically just be high and listen to shoegaze

also what about downsampling from using high resolutions at only 48khz
aren’t i missing details from the original recording

If you didn’t hear the difference between your laptop and your Dragonfly, you won’t hear this difference either. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s definitely subtle. And buying good headphones is definitely
 an instant “wow”.

eh i still feel like an ampdac would still be useful
probably because of the high resolution audio so i kinda wanna know the experience of 24 bit 96K sound
it doesn’t even have to be expensive
just can drive headphones, and be easy to use for these high resolution files

and so some that do have the higher frequencies can actually use those higher frequencies

Chances are you will spend your money for absolutely nothing because you won’t hear the difference. Still, a good DAC, that can do 24/96 and more, will make everything, even 128kbps mp3s, sound better anyway.

If you absolutely need something small, the FiiO K5 Pro is a good choice (dac/amp). Or the Ifi Zen Dac (dac/amp). I don’t want to recommend lower quality than that because you didn’t hear a difference with the Dragonfly.

If you have space, just a little bit of space on a desktop, a JDS Labs Atom (amp) plugged in a Topping D10, an SMSL Sanskrit 10th or an SMSL M100 (DACs) is a good choice.

To be damn sure everything sounds better, I’d recommend a JDS Labs Atom into a Topping D50S. But I don’t know your budget. I got a cheap ass DAC and a JDS Labs Atom and HD58Xs and that’s what people recommended me for an upgrade that actually would sound like an upgrade.

I just don’t have the space

Btw the dragonfly I had was an original black

Not the fancy red or cobalt

So, FiiO K5 Pro, or Ifi Zen Dac, or if you have the money, go for portable DAC/Amps:

Pricey, quality, but small: FiiO Q5/Q5S.
Big, but affordable (still portable): xDuoo XD-05
