You might want to open a thread for other portable amp/dacs, because I donāt know much about em. Maybe Topping NX4, maybe theseā¦
Some good ideas in here
Yep my 1st setup was the HD58x and ifi Nano BLā¦ I was hookedā¦
I have more amp/dac gear now but still only 1 HPā¦ so farā¦
The HD58X sound good just off my phone, but with an amp/dac itās a whole different game.
@duke86fan Yeah I would recommend setting up a thread saying you are looking for a good DAC/AMP that is portable and say what your price range is.
So I got a question, has anyone successfully done a bucking magnet mod for these yet? I thought I cracked the code when they first came out, but I later had to acknowledge that something wasnt right, didnt damage the headphones, but could tell that maybe my positioning was off etc. Anyway just throwing it out there to see whats the latest with the community on that stuff.
I just did a review of this headphone here:
Disclaimer: I am treble sensitive AF, lol.
As much as I said I loved these headphones, thereās aā¦ 7-8khz peak I really donāt like, with my pair, on some songs. Which is damn weird because even the āpeakyā GRAS graph only show a small 5khz peak ā not what I hear.
Anyway, my pair was used, serial number 011319 (!), and I believe thereās been a few silent revisions, so, I guess you wonāt have this problem. Just a warning if you buy it used, I guess.
The truth is most graphs and testing rigs are not all that accurate above 2khz, at least thatās what I have heard. I always trust human ears first before looking at a graph. I will look at graphs to find an explanation of why I am hearing something, but if it doesnāt match up, I trust my ears, or another personās that I trust as well.
I mean, itās not that random. Iād say āgood luckā for above 10khz though.
I would say for a high quality rig it would be accurate to around 8-10k, cheaper ones would be less accurate
Right. Just trying to make the point though that graphs are not as reliable as your own ears.
Could you link some of the offending songs?
Lol, just Linus talking (Linus Tech Tips on YouTube) sounds way too clear on this pair of headphones for me, for example.
Itās always voices, too much highs in the voices, sounds unnatural to me.
To be clear, theyāre still excellent. But Iām searching for something with a bit less high-mids/low-treble now. Theyāre too clear for my treble-sensitive ears.
Edit: Warning, this second video is like 10dB louder?!
Nighthawks perhaps lol
nighthawk gang!
No, Iāll seeā¦ something more neutral, one day. cough like Elegias maybe cough.
What AMP do you use?
Maybe the 6xx would suit you well?
There is nothing like the Elegia
I meanā¦ I shouldnāt have said that, lol. I already modded my T50RPs a bit to sound like I want and to get rid of this high-treble. I definitely donāt need another pair of headphones right now. My next step will be like, 500$+ detail monsters, probably next year because I need to concentrate on more important things (ā¦and/or cheaper things like DACs and amps) for now.
You have the atom correct?
Yup
(Uh well, in repair for now ā I heccin grilled half of it with a static shock but yes)
