i removed the mod that was included in my used purchase and they sound a decent amount better⊠more bass but not to the point of ruining the crazy highs on 100 gecs⊠i still rn prefer my M50s because
they are colder on my ears (i love the pads on them)
the M50s sound kinda brighter which i seem to prefer (there is a bit of muddying in the vocals that i dont like that much)
also the dekoni pads are AMAZING for hip hop but not for any other genres like indie rock
You know, if you really want something that has more bass possibly than the M50x, it is possible you might like the Nighthawk Carbon. No need for an amp. Probably pushing your budget at $250, but you wouldnât need an amp on top of that.
since treble doesnt bother you too much maybe the meze 99 noir/classic/ neo might be up your alley. not as bassy but definitely better mid performance the akg k371 is an option. fidelios x2 hr for pleasant bassy sound many including myself thinks its pretty unrefiuned but for current asking price its pretty damn good
Iâd suggest just listening to them for awhile like a week or so⊠I find v shaped headphones give you that wow feeling initially but something like the 58x can grow on you
I love the 99 Classicâs for an economical closed back. The are my go-to for on the run, but I prefer the sound of the HD58Xâs at home. The Noir makes it even more attractive price wise.
They will get comfy AF.
For the clamp, if itâs too much, you can just âextendâ the headband as much as you can and diminish the curve of the metal part of the headband a bit.
(Iâm sure thereâs a better way to say that in english but pardon my french lol. I hope you understand anyway.)
I have a few questions. First, what kind of dekoni pads do you have (velour, sheepskin, etc)? Second, when you say foam mod do you mean something like this?
Third, do you have stock pads? The stock pads are the best way to listen at first since it is the âintendedâ sound and you will have a good baseline to compare. The dekoni pads are very comfortable to me, but can make the sound worse. The velour pads bump the bass a bit but can muddy the mids for some people, but a mod like the one I pictured fixes that (at least for me). Like I said, if you have stock pads give them a try. Also I would recommend ONLY using the HD58X for like a week or two, then switch back to the M50s and see how you feel.
Cool, thanks. So I would stick with the stock pads for a while like I said. From what I know about the M50s, they should be a rather aggressive sounding V shape while the HD58X are a rather mid forward signature with good extension in both the treble and bass. I imagine you will notice the difference with some more listening. Like others have said, the HD58X are not âWOW!â headphones, theyâre just great headphones for a great price if you want that mid forward sound.
I have the Hart Audio Cable kit for mine and using the balanced 2.5 on my BTR5 and the full sized Balanced on my 789 definitely make a difference. (to my ears anyways)
Gotcha, I know they require some power to get better but wasnât sure if the btr5 would be good enough in single ended of not. Thnx! @duke86fan so there you heard it, get balanced as to where Iâm not sure myself lol. I can vouch for the 58x really improving from the already great sound when paired up with an amp
