Rears are some random Monoprice 6.5 inch things with ribbon tweeters I picked up from a hotel before we started demolition at the site.
Those lights are purposefully pointed into the top corners as they’re hue bulbs, and there’s a light rope behind the setup as well, because ambiance.

Doing what I can in my little rental for now, and won’t change anything till I find new digs. Then I’ll probably pick up some Q350’s for rears when I get the chance, additional Q50a’s to top them, and shift those monoprice to be side channels.
Will need to upgrade that Yamaha RX-V583 to something that can handle 7.1.4 at that point too.

That center is :fire:

It’s insane… I replaced an old Klipsch centre (now with a parent).
TBH I probably need to swap out the Q550’s for Q750’s or the Q950’s to keep up with it.

Ok, a very poor pic and a messy room but you should hear it in action. I went a long way around because of my goofy hang ups and lack of disposable income but I have something that does pretty well with music and movies. This set up gets a bit complicated so I’ll try to explain it clearly.

This is a 4.0.0 setup that has two paths, one for music and one for movies/shows. I also run an online radio show from this system and there are concessions made for that as well.

Sources are an NAD 533 turntable(Rega Clone)feeding a Schiit mani phonostage, a Mac Mini, an Apple TV and an aging Sony Blu-ray player.

The Apple TV, Mac Mini, and Blu-ray output HDMI to a Marantz SR5005 that is doing processing only(one of the rear channels went out when the cats dropped a shelf full of skulls on my equipment shelves and I have a tube amp for the mains.) The Mini also sends usb to a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface. The Blu-ray player also sends s/pdif to the Scarlett for CD playback. The turntable set up also sends an analog signal to the Scarlett.

Ok, here’s where things start getting screwy. I have a Reisong YULU M2 tube amp for the mains. It has two inputs and a volume control. I keep the volume turned up since I control it elsewhere in the signal chain. One input is fed from the Marantz receiver. The other input is fed from a Schiit Magni 2Uber which gets signals from a SYS passive switcher. This lets me switch between a straight feed from the turntable or digital from the Mini, Blu-ray, or digitized vinyl from the Scarlett. The Magni or the Marantz handle volume depending if I’m doing video or music.

My front left and right are Tekton Mini Lores. 95db sensitive and in a small 10’ x 12’(ish)room, these guys can rock loud and controlled with just the 8 little watts the M2 puts out. The surrounds are some tiny PSB Alpha Intros I got from eBay along with the Marantz. The are powered from a little Sure T-amp just sitting out bare. I’ve never made a case for it.

The monitor is some 55” Samsung that my wife legit won at an office Christmas party . It’s a weak link but I’m more focused on audio than video as I think y’all could tell. I would like to do a projector at some point but right now the convenience of this set up has me happy. I do throw a blanket and towel over the screen to help with sound reflection when really digging the tunes. It helps some.

The cables are what I had laying around along with some diy ones. I use Shure SHR440s with the Magni 2 for private listening, and most everything is sitting on IKEA furniture(including me on a futon)bought on my honeymoon 13 years ago.

Room treatments are up next and maybe a diy tube buffer pre to cut out some of clutter. It would have switchable outputs(for speaker or Hp listening)at least three line ins and an ht bypass for the receiver. We’ll see how long that will take me to do.

I’ll clean the place up and take some better pics if anyone is really interested but it really wasn’t planned for looks. We have a decent living room set up downstairs that is much nicer to look at(true 5.1 also)but not as nice to listen to IMO. This is my personal escape room, where I escape too.

Thanks for giving me a place to talk about my Frankensystem.

That photo is giving me Clockwork Orange vibes. Looks like a cozy setup!

Thanks, My room is literally too small to get a pic of both speakers from the listening seat with a standard lens. Hence the fisheye I was playing with.

I swear that the best mod I’ve made to my system is the mods I made to my futon to make it more comfy. Thin masonite and cardboard over the slats and under the cushion has made a world of difference in enjoying my system. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is the picture of the phase “wall of sound”

That looks like a nice room for a HT and a fun project. Have fun!

Yeah the wife banished all audio equipment to “my room” so i have to store it, until i can start re-invading the house again…

Ceiling fan has to go make room for the VOG speaker.

Wow, just a little jealousy here…just a tiny lil bit.

Definitely looks like some fun times ahead for you. Don’t be stingy with those progress pics.

From the ashes…

After finishing up with the main surround setup, I got everything cleaned up and noticed I had this pile of “leftover stuff”. All vintage to some degree, all still viable. So I thought… What the heck. Maybe I can throw something together for the bedroom. So I pooled all this together

  • Denon AVR-2808ci
  • Toshiba HD CD/DVD player with HDMI and digital optical audio output
  • Mistubishi MS-10 speakers
  • Sony CD player

Again, more ripping and cleaning. I was in awe of how well the 2808 cleaned up. I never really used this HD player, but it’s a great unit. Paying CDs with the fiber optic digital connection to the 2808 - Holy Cow. [/quote]

UPDATE! I had a rare day off today. Woke up and it was cold and raining, so I slept in for a bit, and then had this wild idea to work on this setup! A bit here, a piece there and voila!

Of course, the portable CD player went into the desktop system in the office a while back. I brought the M200 out and am feeding it with optical signal from the TV. and I finally found a way to get my beloved Realistic EQ back in action. It’s running between the DAC and the amp and man, it’s fantastic! I missed using this device. This amp is such a friggin beast. The DSP and surround capabilities it has is amazing. Or you can bypass all of it by going into pure direct mode and now I do all sound correction with the realistic EQ. I love having the options. This system is as throw-back as it gets, but it kicks ass. Unbelievable!

And the frosting on the cake… I have moved the Senn HD660S into this environment. Oh my God, these things sound fantastic in here! It’s freaky how well the 660s fit in fact. I’m even using the stock cable. Yes, you heard me! It sounds great. This will be their permanent home, I think. Now I can watch live concerts in ultimate comfort and blow my head out if I want without disturbing a soul! It truly is wonderful. And the neatest thing is, it didn’t cost anything.

I had to follow up one more time. I have been having a ball with this refreshed setup. I had such a great session with it this morning. I decided to watch some classical performances on Youtube. The HD performances are very good quality recordings, and this system - The Denon 2808 in particular, is blowing me away.

Ever since I cleaned it up and reconfigured it, it has re-awakened and now produces this huge, immersive sound field. It’s incredible how well it’s working with the M200 DAC. I am using my Senn HD660 phones with it, and it’s amazing. This amp has a fantastic headphone circuit in it. There were times during the performance when it almost seemed like I wasn’t wearing phones at all; everything was happening outside them and they began to just disappear, almost the way speakers do. I closed my eyes and felt like I was there.

This thing has turned into, like, the world’s biggest headphone rig! And I’m loving it. I’m so glad I didn’t give up on this amp.

I have HT/Stereo setup in my bedroom, with parts of it sitting in the attic. Despite making some controversial (for many) decisions, I love the sound and functionality of it. The only thing I’m planning to change is to replace the BT Receiver with a Streamer at some point. Other than that, it is a pure gold for me:

The overall price of the entire setup is around 5.250$ for the time of purchase.

Just finished setting up my new HT nest. Really difficult to check all checkboxes:

  • quality
  • budget
  • taming crappy accoustics of my living room
  • WAF on appropriate level

Looks and sounds like a million bucks.

From May 2020

Well its been 4 years and things have changed. No more massive front speakers with dual subs.

Theres a Samsung 65" TV that runs with PS5 on 4K/120Hz now with new Marantz AV-preamp.
Also matching front speakers as FL, C, FR and a single 12" sub.
Rear speakers changed from 3-way to 2-way but are as beefy so performance and sound remains as good.

The white ones are “TV speakers” in secondary set with RME and Focal headphones.

Took a while get the picture working with full performance and dolby/auro setup working with all speakers. Tested that they all play individually if source material provides higher surround formats than 5.1.

Cant wait for the final tune tomorrow.

I have had the L/R/C (JBL Studio 530’s & 520c) for a couple years. Added the Dayton 10" sub late last year. Upgraded to the Denon S760H from the Yamaha V385, got the LG B3 77" TV, and built my entertainment center in April of this year. Very satisfied with everything (except cable management, I am aware).

This one has been the same setup for a few years but the Definitive speakers go back many years. I probably won’t change them unless I need to downsize or they start to sound bad.
