I’m curious what everyone here uses for a mobile type setup? Whether it be for a commute etc or something in a bag for later use in a hotel etc… I use my phone and porta pros and as of late it’s not satisfying me as much… so brag about what you use and for what purpose(s) and hopefully I’m inspired! Thanks folks!
Here’s a link to my current mobile setup that I posted on another thread.
Have you tried Yaxi pads? In combination with the DFC, they sound much more resolving.
I’ve thought about getting the dragonfly… very cool photo btw… respect
Thank you!
The ESS chipset is known for it’s detail and often times ‘brightness’. The Cobalt has an earlier roll off that helps with this (compared to Red), but is still very resolving (think detail).
This is the best I’ve heard the Porta Pros. The Yaxi pads also make a difference.
I’ve joked on another forum that the Porta Pros are like “Baby Aeolus”.
Most of the time, it’s just a fiio m11 with an ifi xdsd strapped on, or a questyle qp2r for iem simplicity, or if I feel like using estats the srm-d10 with the m11. Also just recently picked up a WA8 Eclipse for a tube on the go so now that too. If it’s really hard to drive it’s the micro bl strapped to m11. Essentially different amp dacs strapped onto a m11 to sum it up
KSC75x with a phone or DAP for the win baby!
I keep it simple and light, ipad or Iphone >FiiO A5 amp> IEM’s or Koss KPH30i
KPH30i are great for workouts. Never fall off when I use them.
Dang mon coming with the heat lol I’ve considered a dap as of late too… better internal amp and dac than my s10 I’m sure
Fiio M11 is probably the best you can get for the price imo.
Honestly it’s hard to recommend a dap these days, getting a dac amp combo can be more versatile and also more futureproof, but some people just want to get away from their phone (also I NEED the dual sdcard slots)
It depends on what features you want. The ibasso dx160 or hiby r5 are good competitors
Yeah.
Or if you want battery forever there’s the Plenue D, but it’s pretty archaic in design and the screen and features are really sloooow. Not a problem for somebody who puts all their music in a big folder and shuffles it, like me.
The a5 looks pretty nice… I always admire simplicity
I have an Opus #2 which replaces a Pono Player and FiiO e12a. The Opus can power everything I need so I don’t need to bring a separate portable amp. The DAP is now deprecated so I can’t recommend it unless you get it cheap.
Plugging into it is either the Shouer Tapes, Moondrop KXXS or Tin P1 depending on my mood.
I may have to give iems another shot too… been years since I’ve used them… nice collection you got there
It’s simple, the FiiOA5, no dac, loooong battery life, plug and play for Ipad and Iphone when on the road. I really can’t ask for more. I keep thinking of upgrading to something high-end w/ a DAC built in but i haven’t asked @M0N yet what to buy so i stick w/ this for now😂
Lol, what budget are you looking around, and are you still after power and battery life?
Reply took 20 seconds…damn you’re fast…
What will work with my Ipad or Iphone, both older models that use and have 3.5mm jacks. $250-$500 tops. Battery life should be at least 6hrs, i do carry multiple battery chargers w/me though so i’m flexible, but i don’t necessarily want to be the guy on the plane with wires and small boxes hanging all over his seat🤪
Well, tbh I would say you would want something you can connect via usb to take advantage of a better dac no?
