eh i still feel like an ampdac would still be usefulā¦ probably because of the high resolution audio so i kinda wanna know the experience of 24 bit 96K soundā¦ it doesnāt even have to be expensiveā¦ just can drive headphones, and be easy to use for these high resolution files
and so some that do have the higher frequencies can actually use those higher frequencies
Chances are you will spend your money for absolutely nothing because you wonāt hear the difference. Still, a good DAC, that can do 24/96 and more, will make everything, even 128kbps mp3s, sound better anyway.
If you absolutely need something small, the FiiO K5 Pro is a good choice (dac/amp). Or the Ifi Zen Dac (dac/amp). I donāt want to recommend lower quality than that because you didnāt hear a difference with the Dragonfly.
If you have space, just a little bit of space on a desktop, a JDS Labs Atom (amp) plugged in a Topping D10, an SMSL Sanskrit 10th or an SMSL M100 (DACs) is a good choice.
To be damn sure everything sounds better, Iād recommend a JDS Labs Atom into a Topping D50S. But I donāt know your budget. I got a cheap ass DAC and a JDS Labs Atom and HD58Xs and thatās what people recommended me for an upgrade that actually would sound like an upgrade.
So I got a question, has anyone successfully done a bucking magnet mod for these yet? I thought I cracked the code when they first came out, but I later had to acknowledge that something wasnt right, didnt damage the headphones, but could tell that maybe my positioning was off etc. Anyway just throwing it out there to see whats the latest with the community on that stuff.
As much as I said I loved these headphones, thereās aā¦ 7-8khz peak I really donāt like, with my pair, on some songs. Which is damn weird because even the āpeakyā GRAS graph only show a small 5khz peak ā not what I hear.
Anyway, my pair was used, serial number 011319 (!), and I believe thereās been a few silent revisions, so, I guess you wonāt have this problem. Just a warning if you buy it used, I guess.
The truth is most graphs and testing rigs are not all that accurate above 2khz, at least thatās what I have heard. I always trust human ears first before looking at a graph. I will look at graphs to find an explanation of why I am hearing something, but if it doesnāt match up, I trust my ears, or another personās that I trust as well.
Itās always voices, too much highs in the voices, sounds unnatural to me.
To be clear, theyāre still excellent. But Iām searching for something with a bit less high-mids/low-treble now. Theyāre too clear for my treble-sensitive ears.
Edit: Warning, this second video is like 10dB louder?!
