soā€¦ time for an update
after about 50+ hr of burning in the tape pro does improve,
after about 30 hr i think the biggest change occurred, the vocals just became way more present and forward compared to stock . The hollowness went down but it stil present sometimes .

  • using mine with the screws switched, Tidal, E30+L30/ Ibasso DC01 (with my ipad pro)
music type - metal and acoustics versions

so in a few sentences :

  • When they sound good, they sound really good.
  • When they sound OK , they sound just Ok.
-When they sound bad, oh, they sound really really bad .

so what i liked ?
Imaging is great, guitar strings , vocals , evreything is detailed and clean.
They do benefit from playing in high volume, thereā€™s a difference mostly in the present of the vocals while increasing volume.
Instruments almost always was on point, vocals , when they sound good, were sharp and crisp.

soā€¦ the bad :
The one thing that drives me crazy, and maybe its just me, when the song kicks in and theres a lot of things happening together , it just sounds like crap.
super unfocused and hollow and shrap. itā€™s like everything wrong with these headphones just kicks in all in once when the songs start to be a bit challenging.
when thereā€™s only vocals, or only instruments , or just a few of each, everything good,
but when they became too evolved in each other itā€™s like chaos.

  • on some song it sounds like the band is playing out of a plastic box

Overall, finding these really good on acoustic songs, everything else is pretty much bad. Canā€™t listen to these without a specific playlist made for it more then 10 min .
pretty disappointed :frowning:

** sorry for my unprofessional writing

Hi All.

I like to add my experience with this set, I think thereā€™s plenty confusion around this one. I think more info could help.

Got my silver pair about the end of November ordered around 11/11 from Linsoul.

My out-of-the-box first impression was mid focus, deep bass, harsh treble and missing upper treble, terrible instrument separation on busy tracks. Ran unbalanced on a A-55 Walkman stock everything for a few days.

Changed the cable for a 8 core copper single ended wire as I started to not trust the cheep plastic adapter, about 15 hours of use later sound-stage improved, harsh treble was starting to calm, I fell in love with the general tonality reminded me of my HD600 but with bass, not over accentuated, little but pleasant details, the thing that I hated the mumbling of instruments at complex sections where very prominent. my music taste is eclectic, classical, instrumental, electronic, soundtracks, metal etc. If it has chords I probably like it. Things I look for in my listening experience is tonality, soundstage and instrument separation. at this point I was starting to regret my purchase.

I kept the tapeā€™s on my IEM rotation (FH3, BLON 03/01, ZSX) but keep reaching for them regularly, I really love the tonality of this iems for music, general use and movies, comfort wise only had trouble the first week but got accustom to them on my ears fairly quick. At this time I had return to the original cable Spinfit tips worked best and using in the BRT5 balanced, on further use I started to feel this ones opened up, the mumbling got less noticeable (better amplification I believe from the BTR5) Then I pulled out my old ibasso D6 portable amp with good but a questionable 650mW output spec, and all my regrets where gone I finally got the instrument separation I was expecting and tonality I can love, the only thing I could ask is a bit more upper details but at the end very happy with this one so far.

I did measure a 3db gain in 11kHz to 15kHz without the filter in my very simple measurement gadget.

Can you compare with the FH3 ? Which is ā€œbetterā€ ?

The FH3 is in another league. The Tape pro is just bad at the price it is atā€¦maybe I can call it OK if it were 30 usd.

I donā€™t know what ā€œbetterā€ is to you but here is a pro cons of what I can hear. This is why I have a IEM rotation.

Fiio FH3 Wide soundstage, great details upper and lower, superb instrument separation.
soundstage feels artificial, distant instruments and voices. overall good detail but false tonality.

Tape Pro Punchy bass, Average to close soudstage, excellent mid details, instruments and voices sound natural.
Needs more amplification, a bit dark, not precise on busy sections.

With what kind of sources you tried the Tape Pro ?

Ibasso dx160, jds atom, schiit Asgard 3

Iā€™ve lost all my hope. I use the TP 3 days ago,but I canā€™t believe how sh#t is this. I have only the ibasso dc03 and the Shanling ua1. Iā€™m waiting for my e1da 9038s Gen3, maybe it solve my problem ?

Nope, based on my sources that are even more powerful than the 9038ā€¦

Tape Pro is fantastic for FPS gaming. FH3 is fantastic for music. (for their prices, in my opinion)

I really donā€™t have a use for my TP right now sadly. Itā€™s cable has gone on to my Moondrop B2, and that set is being used leagues more often. Even my dad who daily drives KZ ZS10 Pros turned down the offer to use my TP. Itā€™s sound is bad on far too many songs, and as a result it is too inflexible to be used for extended listening purposes.

Over the past few weeks my opinion of this set really has gone down a bit. I donā€™t know at which price point I would even consider these belong in because itā€™s hard for me to even find a song that makes these IEMs stand out in a positive way, compared to other IEMs 1/2th the price or less.

Really sad about you guys burning your money on this garbageā€¦

Honestly, not a total waste of money for me. The cable is my favorite cable amongst all others now. Also, I really gained a sense of appreciation for my other IEMs after this set.

Well, this was like maybe my 10th IEM at this point, and I wasnā€™t really ever too upset by this purchase. The price wasnā€™t really ever hard to swallow, especially because I had a couple linsoul gift cards. Just sad for people who saved up money to get this set.

The honeymoon phase is a real thing. No one wants to realize the thing they decided to purchase and spend their money on is a dud. But over time, reality rears its ugly head.

More like a torture phase with this one lol. And it ended when I stopped using them. :joy:

Lessons learned. Vote with your wallet and do not continue to support future products from the company. There are many IEM companies that are doing an incredible job lately.

Exactly, they had 2 chances and they screwed up with both (not as much on the first one thoughā€¦).

Exactly. Time to move on. Reading through all of this feels as if the company went for a cash grab on the promise they fixed all the issues with the first product, only it turned out worse? Something went horribly wrong then. Spend your time and money with a company and people moving in the right direction, not backwards.
