šŸ”¶ Shuoer Tape Pro

Too many choices out there so really no reason to keep giving a company that already failed too many times more chances.

best hip hop phones  sweet sound with not recommend combo with fiio m11pro

Yes I too like it very much, good compliment for my bright set EJ07 as TP is indeed darker, my guess is the tuning is quite a bit departed from Harman hence not for everyone? I use them almost equally now each day

I only have one STP atm (I have no other IEMs yet but only recently started collecting some other brands, kz, trn, moondrop, etc). To me, it sounds way way better than anything I have (including my Bose QCII, Skullcandy, Sennheiser, etc, none are IEMs though). But I have to say I am not audiophile (just a normal listener who wanted to listen to better quality music), so my ears may just not that sensitive at all.

It doesnā€™t matter if you think youā€™re ears are sensitive to any of the audiophile jargon. The main thing is that you enjoy listening to particular gear. This is what itā€™s about in the end - personal enjoyment of music.

@Alan_Cronin: Heheā€¦ yeah. I guess that tooā€¦

Anyway, my second IEM ā€“ TRN BA5 just arrived. Experienced a bit, I canā€™t stop thinking I should share some of my feelings here b/w the STP. Probably very unprofessional (I literally started using IEMs for about ~3 weeks), but here we go.

TLDR, does the STP sound 2x better than TRN BA5? Personally to my ears, probably notā€¦

Detail:

Price:
I order them from Amazon, they are in almost 2x price difference. AliExpress might be different, but due to the shipping time, I donā€™t have much patient.
(You might be thinking this comparison is nuts since their price tags are so different. But I donā€™t have anything else yet, so I guess use it as just a reference point)

Package:
The STP is WAY better than the TRN BA5. I guess this is really set the price apart? The boxing is way better with STP. The cable, godā€¦ Comparing STPā€™s cable, the TRN cable is like sh**t. (Sorry if I offended someone) Since STP is my first IEM, I had somewhat assumed the IEM cables would be all like that, but oh wellā€¦ Are most IEM cables like the TRN one (I will be sad)?

Physical:
Packaged stock tips both fit badly on me. But this is normal as my ear holes are large, so I just typically change everything to Large to start with. With that change, they both fit well. Due to the shape of the IEM itself, I think TRNā€™s shape is a bit more natural hence it fits better. The STP does have a bit rough edges around the metal corners (in order to make it looks like a good-old dayā€™s tape?), so when I wear it for hours, my ear skull did start to have some light pressure pain. But in order to seal the IEM well, I had to push it further to my ear canal (instead of loosing it up), so there is not much of way to lift the pain other than just stop listening. The TRN shell is more smooth on the surface, there is no rough edges, I can push it very tight to seal my ears and there is no pain at all.

SQ:
TLDR, I like the STP better. I use a HiBy R6 Pro with a very light EQ tweak, but during the comparison, this DAP made no change, only the IEMs are swapped, so it should not be a factor of the SQ.
TRN, comparing to STP, the sound is WAY brighter, the treble is very significant comparing to STP. It is almost too much to me. Unfortunately, this so stick-out treble makes me feel that all sounds I listen are somewhat noise, the sound is just too happy, too loud. It is possible I will feel fatigue quicker. On the contrary, STP is way more quieter, the sound feels a bit more pure and clean. Bass, TRN and STP both are fairly good but since the treble of TRN are so stick out, it kinda makes its bass a bit shy. STP is right on the spot, a bit heavier than TRN, but now with something to compare, I do feel that the STPā€™s bass is a bit more thumpy and darker. I think the overall timbre of the sound is darker and quieter with STP. Overall, I feel that when listening with STP, I am sitting around the instruments while listening to TRN BA5, my ears are just besides the instruments.

Cable wise, I donā€™t have other cables and the STP is a balanced .78mm 2pin cable while TRN BA5 is a qdc .75mm, so there is no way I can swap for test. I can only assume the cable ā€œmayā€ have some impact of the sound quality but I canā€™t prove. For now, using 3.5mm stock cable, the TRN sounds already pretty reasonably good (other than too much in treble), as a normal listener, I am ok with it.

I bought The Tapes Pro last week and I have been forcing myself to listen to them the last 4 days and maybe 30 hours of burn-in. I have very very very MIXED feelings about these IEMs the large filter ring makes it a female dog to put tips on, and after maybe 1 hour the IEM hurts my ear from where it rest. My only other IEM I have is the KZ ZS10 Pro and those are super comfy. I have noticed my Tapes at least have a LOVE for Old music, Like classic Orchestra, old rock/metal(Stargazer by Rainbow was <3), Jazz, Blues if itā€™s not a remaster, and guitars as a whole(Little Wing by Stevie Ray Vaughan). Everything else so far has beenā€¦ okay to bad. What they do they do very well at least to my ears. I do not know if I am gonna keep them or return them.

I wonder if the unusual shape/flatness of the shell causes the sound to be so unusual lol. The #1 tied priorities for fixing this IEM are a shell re-design, and making the thing sound more natural & spacious, both of which are probably related.

i feel like i liked the tape pros with the little screw bits pulled out slightly. i used a piece of heat shrink plastic to stop them from unthreading and backed them out a ways and it gave it a little more depth and punch. kinda hard to put into words but theyā€™re a finnicky bitch for sure. i almost just used loctite and set them in place for life lol.

The original tape has the same shape and it sounds drastically better.

I still dont understandā€¦
How does it happen, that @hawaiibadboy and Porta.fi basically said the ā€œproā€ is slightly improved version for the same amount of money and there are some really positive reviews from customers on the internet.
Yet still, there is a lot of people like you @Rikudou_Goku who swear their set sounds like shit.

Did Shuoer screw up some earlier produced units or is their quality control so bad?
