Smsl SP200 THX AAA 888

But I would argue that something like the archel 2.5 pro or Asgard 3 outperforms thx in actual sound quality. I personally would even prefer an atom or heresy over thx. My point is to try and change the idea that thx is “neutrality” or “the only amp you need”, because it’s really not, and you should really just skip the 250-450 range of headphone amps, which includes the thx. Thx is fine, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you like a lifeless analytical sound with lots of power. It also falls apart with higher end headphones too

A LOT more that in Canada. I landed mine for about $350.00. An RNHP sells for $700.00, plus tax (15%) here. They are not competing in the same arena.

I knew it wouldn’t be my favourite as I like warm and fun.

To also clarify, if you already have a thx I wouldn’t suggest you go out and buy an A3 or 2.5 pro (it would be an upgrade but not super big imo), but if you are considering a thx, for most headphones I would suggest you look there if you want power or/and transparency

I lean more to the Burson, the LS or even the LCX.

Yes, the burson and cavalli amps are great (although warmer leaning)

Year, but the Cavaelli Amps from Massdrop have not so good Rewievs about the Quality. And that‘s not okay from Massdrop.
So it is better go to Burson or Schiitnd other as the Massdrop.

Massdrop do actually curios things i find. The Europemarket off,Discontinue the Fostex, create or brings not really good phones and more fokussed on iem‘s.And the Last good Amp is a year ago.

I have never had any problem with MassDrop products. Of course I haven’t liked the sound of every product, but that’s the way with everything.

Now my Burson amp has had repeated “problems”, mechanically speaking. Sounds great through when everything is good. However, I would never buy another Burson product.

Has anyone tried using a, iFi micro iTube2? Sounds like it might be just the ticket for a THX amp. Another guy just mentioned this on a Head-Fi thread.

A tube preamp would most likely help a thx, I think it would be a nice thing to have

Have the iTube2 around a year(last munich high end show)on my radar and really would like to try it between the RME ADI 2 DAC and my 789. On the other side… why not spend the same amount on a LYR 3 or a OTL tube amp

Or way crazier… the RNHP

I have been very disappointed with hybrids recently and an OTL wouldn’t work for me.

The RNHP looks nice and may well get into my collection eventually. But for now I am looking for something different.

I am looking for a little tubey.

If you have the time and patience - get a little dot 1+. Then replace the opamp in it with 2x Burr Brown OPA 627 on a browndog adapter and finally get a pair of mullard CV4015 tubes.

I’m not really a DIY guy.

Got an email from Drop this morning that they are selling the SP200 for $260:

I am puzzled by this. Given they have the 789 for $300 and are releasing the THX One sometime soon for a target of $200, I’m not sure why they are continuing to saturate their own market with THX amps.

But then again, I’m not a business person.

Well barring their competitors from their platform is anticonsumer. I’m sure they don’t want that reputation

Yeah, after I posted I wondered if it is an effort to control market saturation. Drop is clearly all in on THX amp tech, so having a market to sell it is important to their business.

When I got mine, Shenzhen had it on for $242.00. Around Christmas time.
