According to SMSL the M400 DAC will be released soon too. As well as another THX amp, the SP400 expected to release in June. If you really want to talk about a saturated THX market.
Yup. Thereās already the M200, M300? And the M500 is here and already their top of the line DAC. M200 goes with SP200. Maybe weāll see a brick-sized SP500ā¦
Okay thanks.
So is shit when Massdrop made nothing on it,sorry.
Maybe only a Logo with the Name?
When they have change the Volume Knob incan say okay. But not so.
Why buy on Massdrop when you can buy on Amazon and in normally conditions they arrived in one two Days.
Hmmm hopefully not, for both our sakes haha.
I just got a Little Dot mk3 from there on April 22 and it says ship out date is May 27⦠I would hope it isnāt in transit for a whole month
I am thinking about getting this amp for my HE400iās. I know they are not that hard to drive, but I might add a pair of HD650s later. I am debating between this AMP and an Audio-GD NFB-1AMP. The other THX Amps are not available in my region. What would you suggest as a good pairing with the mentioned headphones?
I am coming from a Focal Utopia and T+A DAC 8 DSD and am downgrading from summit-fi to something more reasonable. I do like Detail but I am looking for an enjoyable experience as well. I listen to classical music 80% of the time, with some Dire Straits and Jazz mixed in.
Since this is my first post on this forum: I have been watching Zeos for years now, been interested in Hi-Fi even longer and had the pleasure of listening to some of the best Headphone-Systems in the world. I hope I can be of value to the hifiguides community.
I personally didnāt think the SP200 was all that great. Thereās also a contingent on this forum that politely disagrees with the viewpoint that THX amp tech is āendgame.ā To my ear, the Schiit Asgard 3 is an all around better amp than the SP200, and sells for a good bit less in the US. Part of me wants to say in the SP200ās price range or near it, you can do better. Another part of me wants to hear your opinion coming from ultra high-end gear and hearing THX tech; how do you think it stacks up? In either case, what DAC will you be using?
Can you get ahold of an Asgard 3? That amp pairs great with a 400i and might offer you better value depending on the price. Or just grab a magni heresy or jds atom and get the same to slightly better performance than thx imo
Also as an aside have you heard the new T+A headphones? They seem pretty nice
I appreciate your input! I should have clarified: I am not from the US but Europe. Schiit typically sells at a premium here. There is one offer of a (used) Asgard with Multibit DAC option in my region, it is 450 Bucks, whereas the SMSL SP200 would be 300 new. I mean that is still fine and from what I have read, Schiit seams like a good company with great products which are backed by a solid warranty.
Also, I have not heard any of the THX branded Amps - but the hype on the internet was pretty strong. Zeos is a big fan of the 789, Amos seemed fond of it as well. I could tell you more about the gear I have heard (although some memories might be a bit faint at this point): Sennheiser Orpheus HE-1, HiFiMan Shangri-La, the Utopias that I owned for 3 Years and the HE1000v1 that I owned before that, as well as the SR007Mk2 that is the proud possession of a family member, various other STAX headphones including the SR009, HD800(s), LCD2, ⦠My local HiFi-Dealer usually has a McIntosh MHA150 to try Headphones on. It seems like they donāt really bother with other amps, which is a shame.
As for a DAC, I am not sure yet. I will probably go for something cheap that measures well and rather spend my money on a good HPA and maybe a second set of cans. I thought about a Topping D30, what do you think, is that a good plan? I have mostly redbook files and a number of DSD files, so support for DSD would be really nice.
JDS is available in Europe from hifiheadphones.co.uk, so that might be worth a look. The Atom seems to be a great deal! If the Asgard is better though, then I will just go for that one instead.
The new T+A headphones do look pretty great! At that price though, they better be. Unfortunately, I have not heard them. In my experience, the T+A products are built extremely well, there is even a person signing of that the product has been packed well. The only thing that bests the quality imo is Accuphase volume knob - my god, why canāt all product be made to that standard!
