So, what next? Looking for new headphone DAC/AMP advice

OK. Now, now I get it.

Enjoying them so far lol?

I’m quite amazed at the difference between the 80s and 250s from an initial impression. Holy crap just as I’m typing this, Touch - Daft Punk just kicked in at the 3:22 mark.

I think I will take some time to digest what I’m hearing then post my thoughts between the two.

The Meze Noir is on sale right now on drop for 160$ extremely nice headphones i hear

Nope, that’s enough spent this month… (Looking at you S350DB’s, S3000 Pro’s, Stands, JDS Atom, FiiO K3, DT770 250’s)…

Going to give the 250’s some time to bake now.

I wouldn’t call them extremely nice but the build quality is hard to deny and if it’s the type of sound your looking for then it’s a great pick

Glad you like them! One of the best headphones for bass under $150 on the market imo.

Indeed, and they were <£100 UK too!

That’s a pretty good price too

So, any more to add about them yet?

So there are a number of really noticable differences right off the bat: -

  1. Bass is cleaner, less reverb, and feels punchier. It also doesn’t quite distort as easily as the 80’s when being pushed harder.
  2. Mids/trebles are much sharper sounding than the 80’s
  3. Soundstage feels wider than the 80’s, like more fuller again than when I simply added the JDS Amp. Similarly, I’m listening to a guy talking on Youtube and it feels like he’s talking in my head! It’s odd. but I like it.

Overall, quite a big difference to the 80’s. I don’t want to say “improvement” because i don’t think headphones can be compared objectively in such a manner - it’s more that there is a difference, and overall I really prefer the sound reproduced by the 250 variant.

(Even though I saw a youtube video that did it purely on numbers and proudly proclaimed the 80’s to be the “best”)

Lol the 80s are the worst imo.
Would you say the treble is less bothersome compared the the 80? Meaning, less sibilant?

I don’t think the 80s are the worst, I think the lower than 80 ohms are bad though

Well then that must just be my preference. :stuck_out_tongue:
Why do the higher impedance usually sound better? I still don’t quite understand why.

I actually think the sibilance is slightly more pronounced - but at least not for vocals - the high trebles. I prefer it. Maybe it’s just a cleaner sound I am now enjoying. But that bass, damn it’s good.

Overall the sound just feels way punchier, but cleaner, not small reverbs hanging around. I shall be enjoying these for a while for sure. Wonder what I then need to buy… I’ll probably get that knob replacement that is mentioned elsewhere on this forum - the JDS one is a bit shallow. I do now appreciate the amp though.

If you just use the fiio now is the amp difference more pronounced lol

I will try it now…

Yeah, maybe it’s the vocal region where the 80 ohm wasn’t doing as well. I totally agree they sound ‘cleaner’ and ‘tighter’.

Now I really get it. The K3 by itself, powerful, but those reverbs are back (but are worse than what the 80’s did by themselves)

You know what you do now? Sell the k3 and buy a topping d10 dac lolol

Capture

lololol

So, hol up, the Topping D10 is a good chunk cheaper than this…

I see it is also just a DAC.

The K3 is still useful to me even if I bought the D10, actually.
