TH-X00/TR-X00/E-MU Teak/Denon biodynamic general discussion

The carbons are a bit tamed in signature from the og, and are somewhat preferred lol. Also read the entire thread to get the full effect. They have bass like your purplehearts (a bit different but similar enough), but with a really strange way of recreating a space in the headphones, with a more prominent midrange and a bit reduced treble, like a W shaped headphone with less treble. At 250 it’s a pretty dang good deal tbh. They are just super fun in the sound and the way they present

To get the Lawton mods with the in stock cups instrument grade and -50$ off if you trade in your stock cups it comes to about 340$ is that correct? this is a bit expensive to me but i would love to get the cup upgrade. is there a discount or maybe a sale i can wait for?

Received my new stand today.

I know it’s not the right thread but we all love headphones here right? Aeolus…

Very nice.

Marbled Ebony?

Thanks, the stand is ebony. The cups are marbled ebony.

Where did you get it and can I get one in purple heart?

I had it made by Beveled Edge studios. I asked for it to be made of ebony so I’m sure you could ask if they could make a stand for you from a different wood. Very reasonably priced as well…

So has anyone tried these drivers with osage orange, or bodark etc. I know it’s one of the heaviest and most dense woods I’ve worked with. I may try to CNC some cups some time to see how they turn out.

I haven’t but I do prefer the sound of more dense cups.

I wonder if there’s a lawton mod that quells the highs a bit

tune-up with a type 1 or type 2 wood sound about right?

I don’t think so. It depends on the type of wood, but I know that mahogany can have some resonances that come across as sharp highs. You would probably need a harder wood (type 4 or 5) and find the specific kind that quells the frequencies you want. Or try these pads. They make it so my purple hearts have NO sibilance what so ever. The comfort is only a bit better than stock pads though. Still better but not totally over ear.

I guess I should’ve mentioned I have the purplehearts… stock pads are fine in terms of comfort for me… maybe I’ll try lease pads as they’re slightly more affordable than lawton mods
