TH-X00/TR-X00/E-MU Teak/Denon biodynamic general discussion

Just do it. You know you want to. It’s not like money is even real so why worry if you spend it? Get a nice set of Museum Classic Cocobolo cups and worry about food later.

Hello,
Can where buy the Purpel heart cups some where or the origial from the Th 900?
I would replace the Mahagony, why i hope so i have more Bass and the highs are not so sharp.

I have see the Lawton Cups, but is not cheap,:sob:.

The purple hearts and TH900 both have more highs than the mahogany. This being said, I think the mahogany has a resonance that comes across as harsh highs at a specific frequency (I think like 6k). So if only one or two frequencies bother you then maybe contact Lawton about any stock cups he has on offer (he buys the stock cups from people who send their headphones in for mods). If the highs are just too high for you then try these pads. They sound identical to stock pads but with less harshness in the highs and are real leather and memory foam, so they are more comfortable.

Yes I have Lawton purple heart cups on the th900mk2 and if you are treble sensitive it’s definitely not the best combo lol

Thanks for the answer.
I habe the Lawton Mod installed and the Lawton pads.
Maybe is no way out for the rest to buy one day beautiful Cups.
I mean Stage 1 cups where a good option i mean.

Another thing is the Lawton pads are not the best for the X00 line. Try the pads I linked, the pads @PapaEmeritus linked a while ago, dekoni’s X00 lambskin pads, or ZMF Ori lambskin pads. I personally find that all these pads work great and only the dekoni pads need attenuation rings to sound right. The highs are never harsh unless you blast them and even then, it’s rather mild harshness at worst and only if the song is harsh. I would recommend the two accessory house global pads (Amazon links) as they are a total of $65 which is the cost of either of the other pads alone.

All these pads are good options and I made a huge post on my thoughts about some of them. (As a note, when ever I say “sibilance”, I’m referring to the song’s sibilance. The headphones never make a non sibilant track sound harsh EVER with any of these pads)

Okay,thanks.
When i tried new Pad only the Zmf.
I have biy this one last year from Dekoni and it was soooo Bad

Never rebuy a Dekoni pad.It was the cusomer support who have recomand me this.

What for Zmf model i buy it?
Only Lambskin,or the Suede with lambskin?

Like I said, try the first two links (the Amazon ones) first. They are less expensive but still great choices. The second link are basically just ZMF pads anyway.

Also don’t write off dekoni just because of one bad pad. They make some great pads are are often a great choice.

Would you have a guess as to which of those two pads would be a better fit sound wise to the teaks? I don’t want a big sound change if possible. Just better comfort

Probably these. They are the smallest increase in comfort out of all the pads (but definitely more comfortable than stock) but also the least sound change.

Sweet that’s what I was thinking. They looked closer to the originals. I may just order both and try them both out. Thanks for the links!

I got the Dekoni fenestrated sheepskin recently (https://dekoniaudio.com/product/dekoni-audio-elite-fenestrated-sheepskin-for-the-fostex-th-x00/) and like them. They are comfortable while allowing your ears more room to breath and bring out the V shaped signature a bit more without adding sibilance or muddying the bass.

Oh my thanks for recommending these pads. I bought both of them and the ones that are shaped like the originals were very close but with i tiny bit sharper highs and treble I didn’t quite like.

The thick ones that are like Zmf are sooooooo comfy but the sound was pretty bad. Bass was gone and the whole sound was just shallow and thin.

So I decided I’d go with the original looking ones and try to find some really thin foam (must be somewhere in my house) and put it in there to tame the treble. Couldn’t find it but I found some Medium density black foam(in a headphone package) and thought “hmmmmmmmmm, maybe this will work in the thick pads.”

So I made the attempt. Cut it to the exact size of the pads, and place it in between the ring and the pads. And hooooolllyyyy shit. It worked. Brought my bass back and lowered the treble and highs. It sounds as good or maybe better than stock pads. I think the bass is like 5 percent looser but not bad enough to make it bad. The overall sound signature is so close to the stocks with the added benefit of the soundstage seeming wider since the drivers are further away. The detail is still great but highs are a little less fatiguing.

All of this and soooooo much more comfortable as well. We have a winner. My first slight venture into modding lol.

Thank @PapaEmeritus. He is the one that pointed me towards accessory house global.

Ok so after much listening and deliberation, I can safely say that the ZMF Ori lambskin pads with attenuation rings are the best way to go (at least for the purple hearts). They are the most comfortable of the pads I’ve tried by far and as long as you don’t blast them (extreme volume causes a bit if harshness) they sound just as good as stock. Now I just need some Lawton cups and I’ll have about 4 inches of primo headphone sticking out from each side of my head.

Did you use the Lawton Tune-Up?
