Also something I learned from headfi and a youtube channel. If you’re tired of your crazy 10 foot Fostex cable you can braid it to reduce the size down to 4-5 feet.

EMU Ebony cups came in today. The quality of the cups is definitely better than the stock X00 cups. Some of the Drop cups can be a little rough on the inside of the cups and around the edges. Stuck the cups on a pair of stock X00 Purple Hearts and did A/B testing against an actual pair of X00 Ebonys and they sound very similar if not the same. I’m probably going to end up ordering another set of EMU Ebony & EMU Purple Heart cups to replace the stock cups on my other X00s. A word of warning the Ebony cups are quite heavy due to the density.
Nice! I like how there’s no branding/logo.
Threw the cups on my X00 with the TH900 drivers and HOLY the bass. Listened to “why so serious” by Hans Zimmer and you could physically feel the bass and how much depth it had. If you want a bass eccentric headphone with clarity this is the optimal setup.
I’ve got the th900mk2 with lawton purpleheart and let me tell you it really slams lol
Didn’t want to fall into the pitfall of buying different cups but now I just might have to lol. Have you tried different pads on your MK2 or did you stick with the stock pads?
I have been using the lawton pads, but throwing the x00 pads on there and getting a really gutsy amp with a real high bass boost is a bassheads dream lol. Also no dampening on the cups either
Do you think its worth adding the driver side tune? I’ve kept my MK2 stock but i’m willing to mod my bootleg 900 if there is obvious benefits.
So imo if you are going for refinement then yes, but personally I just wanted max fun so I didn’t do it. If I was going to daily drive them I would do the tuning and stuff personally
Gotcha, I really appreciate the feedback.
900’s are the only ones with a completely different driver right?
Its the same driver technically with a bigger magnet and tuning. I believe the Denon 9200 uses a similar setup though it says they use some kind of nano fiber material but the driver is clearly manufactured by Fostex. There might be one or two more models that might be using the 900 driver but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. The X00 and 610 run a 1 tesla driver while the 900 runs a 1.5 tesla driver.
Ufff it looks very very Beautiful your cups.
Can´t wait of mine when they arrived. How long do you waiting of the shippingtime?
I have payed mine but doesent became a link about his send it,
Is it possible to make a picture from the inside of the Cup or is to late?
I would see the inside because maybe can give problems when i would install too the Denon Ah D2000.
Where nice when you can do when is not to late.
Are you satisfait with the cups?
From the day I sent my payment to them via paypal it took about a week for them to provide me with a tracking number. They shipped out my cups using fedex and it only took 2 days for them to arrive. They shipped out of Singapore and arrived in California really quickly. Sorry, don’t have any pictures of the inside of the cup as i’ve already installed them on my headphone but the inside looks exactly like the inside of the X00 cups. I’m very satisfied with the quality and the sound and will probably end up ordering another pair of Ebony and Purple Heart cups from EMU.
Where did you order the cups from? Lawton?
Thanks for your feedback.
Sounds positive, thanks a lot.
I currently have the Denon Ah 2000 degrees with the Viablues cable, with the plastic cups.
Compared to the mahogany from Fostex, it sounds much less harsh in the treble.
Haven’t done any mods yet, everything is standard.
Except for the new cable and headband and pads.
I’m curious how it will be with the Rosewood and the Lawton mod.
I’m still thinking about whether I should put the Lawtonmod in the cups or not.
I will probably have to test it.
Here the actuell stand
Nah, I purchased the cups directly from EMU. I might end up purchasing some cups from Mark in the future though. Reason I’ve held off is because I can purchase two pairs of cups from EMU for the price of one Lawton.
I wonder about Denon 5200. Their headphones are so expensive compared to the X00 and the EMU’s. is their price worth it?
Used i’d say they’re worth it. I think Denon was kind of late to the party when it comes to the market and they’re pricing strategy. If I was in the market for a Denon I would buy one used. The 7200 is floating around $500 and is said to match the 900 if not exceed it with a couple simple mods. I was looking at the 9200 but the price for performance didn’t seem like they were worth it over the 900 MK2 and other headphones at that price point.
I have the Ah d7200 and satisfait with him.
It gives more BAss and very good middle and the high are not to sharp.
compared with the Fostex series is very depent what you really hear.
Same say is not so good and prefer the older version, and same say otherwise.
I keep the two because sometime i like to hear the Fostex and sometime the D7200.
The D2000 was a occasion for a cheap price.For 65€ i can´t say no.
Only the status was busy, the Headband, Pads and cable was very crap.
