TH-X00/TR-X00/E-MU Teak/Denon biodynamic general discussion

Well that didn’t last long.

Also I forgot what a shit show the drop discussion sections are. It seems like the only people who use them are people who hate drop and everything it does, but still use the service.

Maybe it’s not too late, my x00 exploded as well about a month ago. I actually contacted e-mu and asked them if they are willing to sell me the hardware and they agreed. I got whole new hardware aside from the wood cups for 200$.
Btw. i literally just created an account and just saw your comment and had to reply.
Anyways. I’m also looking to upgrade my x00 cups, any recommended ones? i do like the sound of the mahogany i have. only thing i did was getting a sheepskin dekoni pads with attenuation pads. oh, and a detachable cable mod

THANK YOU! I tried doing a repair of my own but it did not go so well lol. I’ll have to contact EMU this week.

Hello,
I have buy the Rosewood cups from Emu and find it very well.
Better as the Mahagony Cups.

A lot of people like the Lawton cups. I haven’t tried them but have heard good things about them.

to the owners of this headphone, can you give me the interior measurements (of the hole) of the original pads because I bought some on aliexpress (pads for denon ah d or fostex th) and it seems to me that the holes are bigger and change slightly the sound, I no longer have the original pads thank you

About 55mm tall and 35mm wide.

Ok, thanks for the answer. except at e’mu directly, do you know where we can buy it thank you

For the E-MU and X00 style pads, I don’t know where to get them other than E-MU directly, sorry.

If your willing to try though, I found these pads were very similar sounding compared to stock but a bit more comfortable.

Or you could just jump down the rabbit hole and do a full Lawton mod so you can use ZMF pads like I did, lol.

I just bumped into these very cheap pads - it’s $10 incl. shipping for me. Anyhow, if this can help anyone (and maybe you get a $1 off and I get a $1 off, or just choose the right poison and shop directly.

so, my pair of TH-X00 Mahogany arrived today and I had a quick listen - not bad, not bad indeed. one thing right off the bat though - the stock pads seems to be smallish for me. it seems that my left ear is slightly bigger than my right one, I have to readjust the HD650 on my head every once in a while as it becomes slightly uncomfortable in the left year, so now I have this confirmed. with TH-X00 my right ear fits into the slit more or less well, but my left ear ends up in an almost ‘on-ear’ setup and feels a bit uncomfortable. I guess I need pads with larger holes in them. for reference, I have Alpha Dog pads on my Verums, and these are spot on. I am reading good things about Ori lambskin pads, they seem to have bigger holes - anyone had experience similar to mine? I do not mind losing a bit of bass.

Think the the 900 pads have a bigger opening if i remember correctly, i for myself like the ones from dekoni

yeah, just to add - I understand that Lawton is also an option, but as I understand using these pads will also entail using the tune-up kit, and I am not ready to ‘go down the rabbit hole’ as @ATK aptly put it. I just want more comfortable pads and am ready for a bit of a trade-off in the bass department, and then off to enjoying my new headphones

Brainwavez xl perforated can also work but might alter the sound more than you like and that can open another rabbit hole
Looking at my box of pads  :joy: XD

Oh don’t buy the XL pads. They don’t fit the Fostex/EMU!!!

Everyone be warned. Those pads fit like sloppy joe burgers. Everything gets messed up. I took them off immediately.

I’ll have to find some use for my pair of sheepskin XLs from Brainwavz but noooo… These are a fail for all foster variants. The pads are 5mm oversized, and don’t even fit well!

so, settled down to a more careful listen. running Qobuz → J2 → SW51+ shiiiiit… I like what I’m hearing, I really like what I’m hearing… I don’t remember if I was this impressed with the Verums, then again, I did not have much of a reference framework at the time.

If anyone is selling emu teak cups lmk, or purpleheart ones from the x00. The wood cracked on my teaks and need a replacement. The th610’s I replaced them with aren’t as sufficient for my taste and also causes horrible resonance firing back off the walnut wood and can hear the voicing hang there for a few miliseconds echoing when there’s silence in songs. Perhaps I need to add some foam but the walnut just makes them a bit too heavy compared to the teak wood which was lighter.

Hello,
You can order or buy new ones from Emu, they are not too expensive.
Or buy some from Lawton.
If they are cracked, it is probably because they were over-tightened.
The wood works even when it is not in use.
Maybe it also cracked because your room is very dry and warm.
This causes the wood to dry out and rot, metaphorically speaking.

Is it cracked from the inside or outside?

The inside. My room does get warm and dry for sure. Especially with summer heat in California and a gaming pc. I’ll try and ask them and see what my options will be. Thank you.

For my TR Ebony
This is probably the best pads without changing the sound of the stock pads but WAYY more confy. I use the dekoni Att tings tho :joy:
Can’t believe I waste a lot of money on those dekoni and zmf pads and this cheap AH Orion pads are better :scream:
thanks for the tips
