The DEALS thread

The micro is more powerful, has a better bass boost + 3D, IE Match and filters. I would say keep it.

hifiman seems to be doing a decently large sale right now, I’m not sure how long it’s been up but there’s a large section of their gear for solid prices. Some of the prices are reflected on their Amazon listings as well.

That might be the tipping point for me.

I don’t know how much I can hold myself

I went in several days ago to buy an open box, but they were all gone. I left telling myself that I don’t really need them.

Now they are $839.00 and the Canadian dollar is looking better…

but is it better enough? LoL! 25% difference plus the Canada taxes makes it a hard pill to swallow, STILL!

That is what holds me back. I would hate to spend close on $1,400.00 in Canuck bucks only to find out that they are a bit better than my Elex’s, which I really do love.

if it helps, headphones.com has a 365 day return policy

EDIT: I realized that doesn’t apply to their sale items… nvm

My sentiments exactly minus the Canadian part…I feel the same way about my Elex…They sound really good on my asgard/Modius, but when I put them on tubes with my WA6…It took them to a whole other level…I feel your pain my friend

@ShaneD @Guarddawg30 so…start looking up comparison reviews and see what they say. it gives you an impression of how ‘different’ they could be.

I have been reading them for a couple of years. It depends on the music, the DAC, the amp and other factors. Then add in that we all hear differently and nothing really helps.

Like every purchase in this hobby, it is either dive in and take your chances or run away and don’t risk disappointment.

I have a toe in the water. Now it’s two and I think it might be three…

When I used to ask MON for upgrade advice, his first reply was always, “What is your current headphone missing or not doing for you?”
My response, in this situation, would be, “They do nothing badly and I love them.”

Not exactly a burning need for an upgrade.

Not that I am a super experienced guy here but since I own both. well then what the hell… My 2 main amps are the Bryston BHA-1 solid state and my Quicksilver tube amp. My opinion is the OG Clear scales a little better than the Elex. Is it a lot?.. No. But there is a difference. Personally, I prefer the Clear single ended on the Quicksilver much more. Both Headphones are using the identical upgraded cables from Audiophile Ninja. I have both single ended and Balanced XLR cables so it allows be to try both on each amp using the same cables etc. Do I think it is enough of / for a upgrade? Depends on funds and how much you desire one over the other I guess. I enjoy both with the OG Clear taking the edge for sure.
A lot of this hobby I am learning depends so much on synergy and personal tastes. Someone else may chime in and say the opposite of my opinion depending on what THEY have. Not much definitive help I am sure but…Another way would be M0Ns shit list which kind of shows these 2 sets and what equipment levels work…

Edit: I should add that other amps / dacs I have and used with these.
Amps … Monolith Liquid Platinum, Schiit Asgard 3, Feliks audio Echo, Schiit Jotunheim.
Dacs, Schiit Bifrost 2 OG, SMSL SU8 , Schiit Magni 3 and my current dac is Denafrips Pontus 2.

@Marzipan I have listened to both of them, and have read and watched the comparisons…I am more than happy with my Elex…I plan on buying a pair of Verite opens or Atriums…I am leaning towards the VO’s, but if I can get a good deal on a pair of Atriums I am not going to pass them up…I am going to see what ZMF has to offer this upcoming Friday.

I know this isn’t really a deal for all, but was for me and HAD to tell someone!
Stopped at a local thrift store today and bought a boxed set of all 9 Beethoven
symphonies…DGG with Karajan and Berlin. They are still in order and appear to be unplayed or perhaps very little. $3.00…and on sale for another 50% off. No tv tonight.
Yes, I can stream it on AMHD but old time FUN to ensue!

I’m not in the market for a Dunu EST 112, but if you are, this might be the lowest I’ve seen.

Great find. I am going to start enhancing my classical CD collection as well, hopefully by the same fortuitist means. It’s more fun that way!

@Raptor168 Indeed, there are SO many used cd’s out there right now…and
they are super cheap, often a dollar apiece here.
I also found/bought yesterday a 6 cd set of classical selections. This one was
on EMI label and all well-known orchestras, etc, not the usual cheap studio
ensembles you often see. Net $1.50. Coudn’t resist…will listen then probably
send to my daughter in Michigan’s U.P.
PS she’s already got nearly a foot of snow!!
I’ll put things like this on the recently purchased threads in the future.
