They sound awesome for their price, really well done with lots of features actually
By the way, eBay now has sales notifications.
As in, if you have something in your wishlist, you’ll be notified if the seller offers it to you at a lower price (a red notification, next to the “bell” icon).
…So, uh, I officially need to put some money somewhere “in case” there’s a sale, now…
You guys have done a lot of bad things to my wallet. I’m contemplating skipping the Argons altogether for the Ebony or AH-D7200. Oy.
I mean personally I wouldn’t pick up the argons if I had the carbons tbh
Honestly your opinion helps a lot. I wouldn’t have guessed that if you didn’t say anything. I always saw the Argons as my “most wanted” when I first got into this hobby. If that Nighthawks scratch the same itch then I couldn’t be happier with my purchase (With 2 and half months less wait time and still saving $100)
well for now you could just eq your existing headphones and definitely skip the argons and do a bigger upgrade with the ebony
They fulfill a similar purpose for me tbh, and I end up using them more if that means anything lol.
To be perfectly honest, the argons are unique but pretty hyped up where I don’t really think I would personally buy them again if I had a choice tbh, they are good but not that good
Yeah it definitely does makes sense. So I appreciate the knowledge dump.
I’m gonna do a little bit of research on the Ebony as well as the AH-D7200. Getting a lightly used pair of one of them for $400 seems like a solid deal in itself. EQ is a good idea though.
More opinions for reference:
same guy, different posts:
I really wish that Massdrop would bring back the X00 or produce another Fostex collab that’s readily available. That way, I wouldn’t be so tempted by these very rare used sales.
Ah I completely forgot to mention it again if you can find an emu teak that’s also pretty good
I read from several threads that it’s possible to contact Creative and purchase Emu Teaks directly from them for $500. But don’t know how long ago that was.
Yeah, I saw them mentioned in another thread but couldn’t find them anywhere online. I’d prefer new to used any day, especially if the value is there. Just trying to see if the X00s or the AH-D7200s are more for me. Listening to Z’s AH-D7000 demo but not sure how similar those are.
Be careful with sound demos lol. Also the 7200 and 7000 are differently tuned it I recall correctly
Assumed as much, always take it with a grain of salt with YouTube compression and whatnot. Plus they’re not even the same headphones. Have you had the opportunity to listen to both?
Yes but it’s been a while lol
To me, the sound demos for most headphones on Zeos’ channel aren’t accurate at all. Probably something to do with YouTube, and also slightly different setups each time.
I would trust M0N’s ears every time over a sound demo on YouTube.
Well I mean, I would trust most people’s ears over a sound demo if they know how to articulate it
I agree. Most of the time. Human ears will hear things like human ears should.
It’s been discussed in multiple threads, any attempt to evaluate the sound of a headphone by recording said headphone is a total waste of time.
You might get broad strokes (bass comparisons), but even that can be masked by the playback chain.
Your trying to evaluate
Source → DAC → Amp → Headphone
But what your hearing is
Source → DAC1 → Amp1 → Headphone → Mic → Mic Preamp → ADC → YouTube Encoding → DAC2 → Amp2 → Headphone2
That’s really helpful, thanks for sharing. I’ve never searched for that sort of feedback on this forum but that makes total sense. I always assumed it was moreso a YouTube encoding issue and honestly overlooked the whole DAC and Amp portion, haha.
