How is the Mobius?

From what I hear it’s underwhelming sound wise and the wireless has some delay. But I do like how they look and have always been tempted.

Ive heard some good things about it. but yeah i heard theres some delay too. not sure if the issue was fixed.

Drop THX AAA 789 is $300. This the new price. “As of April 17, 2020, we’re adjusting the 789’s MSRP from $399 to $299.”

Welcome to the forums. Glad you were able to take advantage of that deal, too.

Just checked my tracking, and my 1990 shipped yesterday (UPS from NJ, FWIW), slated to arrive on Tuesday. Looking forward to comparing with 177x Go to see what’s samey and what’s different besides open/closed and impedance. Been on the hunt for other Beyer deals, too (880 600 ohm, T1).

Wow, it looks like a permanent price change! Down into SP200 range now. I guess they weren’t moving as much anymore.

Sweet price!

well they are claiming the opposite, that having so many orders makes it cheaper per unit
“This price adjustment is made possible via increased production size (thanks to you) and more efficient material sourcing + manufacturing optimization (thanks to our Product Realization team).”

How much of the price change is due to lower costs versus pressure from competition is hard to tell

crikey…I didn’t realize the 1770 and 1990 were so expensive.

When the other THX amps came out their sales numbers plummeted for a while. A lot of people cancelled their orders. You could watch the numbers drop right on their site. Maybe they bounced back after the novelty wore off on the newbies.

Regardless, it’s a great deal for everybody! Wonder what Monoprice will do now, if anything?

I could swear I read a review stating that whichever audio profiles you select (footsteps, etc.) are not persistent, and you must re-navigate through the headphone controls to set up the headset each time you power Mobius off and on again. That alone struck me as an unfortunate shortcoming that would grate on me over the long haul, and I decided to wait for “version 2.” Now that you’re asking, I can’t seem to locate where I read that or confirm whether it was perhaps fixed in a firmware update or something.

Otherwise, the main criticisms I saw were with mediocre battery life and a could-be-better mic. Neither of those seemed to be a showstopper to me.

I ended up picking up the LCD-GX instead of Mobius since the latter would have required me to run a cable to my xbox controller, anyway, negating the whole “wireless” benefit (this is Microsoft’s fault for using a proprietary radio communication on the XBox instead of Bluetooth). I like the GX a lot, but it’s $900. At $229 b-stock Mobius may be worth a look, especially if the target use is PC gaming where console idiosyncrasies don’t enter the picture.

UPDATE:

I’d forgotten also, you can’t drive these from a line in unless they’re powered on (i.e., they don’t work passively, like Panda does).

Z Review here:

Lots of good Z flavor in this one. I especially enjoyed the admonition of the supplied line in cable. “No…”

UPDATE #2: Ehh, that B-stock price was good enough to take a chance on these. Evidently I need to stop hanging out in the DEALS thread before it gets expensive.

Does anyone know if Dekoni ever runs sales on holidays and such?

I’ve been eyeing their Elite Velour Pads for my Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro, but if they usually drop in price for Black Friday or Christmas then I can wait.

Yeah i bet. I think the Sp200 and other THX’s had more an effect than anything. Also the popularity of the RNHP. A much better amp for only 100$ more. Its nice to see this amp drop to a more competitive price. SMSL now has a run for their money. I’d rather get 789 for 300$ than the SP200. But the SP200 does have a newer chip. the 888. Dont know how that effects it. But the 789 seems to have a better build quality, a powered XLR and more gain options. Yeah i’d buy that one but i got my SP200 on sale for 260$
