I have both this and Atom on hand for 2 different builds I’m working on for friends. I can gather thoughts in a couple days (waiting on some Y-splitters to come in, which will make connectivity and A-B much easier).

So far I can offer that the build quality on on EL 2 amp is excellent, and the big knob is as sexy as I hoped it would be.

Amazon has Beyer 880s and 1770s for considerably cheaper than I’m seeing them elsewhere:

DT 880 Premium, 600-ohm model - $166

DT 1770 Pro - $420-ish

I check these prices thank you. i’ll have you know that i make sure what i post are good sales.

Well lets hope you spend more time fact checking these “deals” then you do trying a headphone before you give impressions on it!

Let’s keep things civil here. These posts may be helpful to some people. If they aren’t helpful to some, that’s fine too…but there is no need for insults or thread highjacking. There are other audio forums for that type of nonsense…

I’m 110% guilty of that. Am an extremely excited boi with very little self-discipline. Am aware and working on it :stuck_out_tongue:

Kind of aggressive there though. No need to be testy.

I really don’t know what the right balance is for content in this thread. I suppose I don’t mind it being busy and growing large, because:

Leaving old deal posts intact is a helpful way to discover historical pricing, which can help to gauge whether a deal today is a good deal period or just a good deal right now.

Posting deals that aren’t really great deals may still be useful if it triggers conversation, like the Elegias at $700. Pretty good for new, not the best price for new in relatively recent history, but seems to be the best deal going right now. And some used prices showed up in the $5xx range. So good conversation for anyone looking for those.

Deviating from strict deal-related conversation to talk about specific pieces of gear and alternatives at given price points is still relevant and helpful.

This thread does get a lot of activity, and I can relate to the desire to trim it down to what’s most valuable, but then I’m not really sure what I’d cut out. In the end it all kinda works for me.

that Amazon deal is gone. it’s back to $225 USD for the 880’s.

That’s odd. I still see it as active, plus a bunch of other sellers with comparable prices:

Did you follow the link I posted above, or just look up DT880 at Amazon? There are like 5 different versions of 880s, not even counting choosing color and impedance for the one I posted. I snagged the 600-ohm “Gray” color.

Anyone else seeing or not seeing the same pricing? That’s all we need is for algorithms to start advertising individual prices to us based on how much a marketing formula thinks we want a thing. :anguished:

I see it. What are they normally?

In the time I’ve been shopping around (last couple months) was mostly seeing them for ~$199 with the occasional ~$188 or so. $166 seemed low enough to call a “deal.”

Wow, then yeah I agree. I already have the DT770’s and the 6XX’s - think this price is low enough to fill the gap on any of them? I’m not sure it does anything better than what I currently have?

weird indeed. I wonder if Amazon is tagging me from Canada, even though I’m on the US .com site.

I sometimes wonder how big a effect this site is having on the headphone market. We always recommend the DT880. Doesnt Amazon sometimes raise prices on products they have if they see a buying trend?

I’m also as carefull on my recommendations as i am on this thread Mr Davis.

Price gouging tends to be illegal and prices can only change after a set time period. In the UK it’s 3 months

Not in the US it’s not.
In most cases on Amazon though there is a 3rd party seller involved who sets the prices for items, hence the Sold by XXX fulfilled by Amazon labels.
Valve occasionally do experimental pricing on Steam, where they’ll offer the same product at two different prices in two locations, to see if the increase in volume will offset the decrease in profit.

Yikes, that’s good to know to be honest. It is here in the UK

Early bird on the SMSL M400 with the AKM4499

$769 down from $810
