Thieaudio Ghost

The reviews seem to be flipping back and forthe like this as well, wondering if there is some heavy unit variations  I don’t have the time nor patience to sit with multiple ghosts to see for sure, but it does sound as though we have headphones that may sound entirely different.

I dont think that many defect ghosts out there as back and forthe reviews ! And i dont mind if you like it or not !Mezes are great, beutiful build and the sound, sound that bleed out at lot of rock musics and with couple others!
Its not promlem to my ghost! And with a cheap but nice quality chines hybrid pads sounds PHENOMENAL or even better than the 109’s!
A real heavy unit,period!

Told you Hybrid is the way to go

As far as unit variation is certainly a possiblity, but personally i dont really mind either way, its a solid performer after you pad swap it/ Pad mod it, for some it worth 130$ for some its not, no a biggie either way if it was 300+ then you would go into the debate of other possibilities. personally while i do have some fondness for my 58X i severely dislike the comfort and overall build and cant use it for longer listening, so the amount of competition is much smaller.

aside from the HE400 (that really shine with more powerful amps power) there arent many open backs at this price point (lets call it 150 after getting pads), still a decent deal - its not KPH30I but still solid

Nice! What hybrid pads are those? Do you have a link to where to buy them? Cheers!

Kinda funny :slightly_smiling_face:,i just compering the kph 30 whith the ghost!
Ghost is just more for me,so musical! But i still love my kph30!
I just saw a review where the guy said the kph40 much better than the ghost!I said its no way!
Thats all,we hear differently!

I bought this years back! I think its from ali express but iam not sure!
But i think you can find similar pads everywhere!

I think that’s rather fair… I haven’t personally tried the hybrids that I have for my beyer… will give that a chance later see how that turns out, at the least it does pad swap quite well… I don’t believe this is a defective copy really just likely a case of variations alongside hearing differently. Overall seeing how it performs well from the 109 pads and those are hybrid… I guess it makes sense that other hybrids will perform well too

My issue is it doesn’t sound clear as others within it’s price bracket for starters until swapping the pads… I guess a set of brainwavz or something would work out better in this regard instead of 109 pads just to keep that price down

What are you comparing it to? most things i can think of at this price point have noticeable flaws or compromises. The HE400 for example is a plannar meaning to really get the most of it you need a more powerful amp that would run you 200+

That’s one of the ones I was thinking about but you are right on the compromises really when you think about it there is a lot of stuff that is compromised in this price margin so I can respect that

I think one of the questions I need to ask -just- to be safe on this copy I have, strangely to gain appropriate sound levels with this headphone the amplifier(in this case asgard 3) has to be turned up to around high gain 11 o’clock on the knob with windows at max volumes… not sure if everyone has this current experience on the power requirement? If this is just on my end of things I will need to reach out to them to inquire about this… as that’s awfully a lot of juice for such a headphone for reference… it takes around 12-1 o’clock to run my beyer T1 600 ohm headphones…

Got Aune X7S. On unbalanced output the Ghost at 10 o clock is about the same level as the 300 ohm 6XX at 11 o clock.
6XX has 102 dB sensitivity and Ghost only 91 dB, though. Google says 102 dB on T1.

BTW, I’m one of those who loves the Ghost. I’m treble sensitive and my daily driver is copper modded 6XX on Aune X8 with Sparkos SS3602, connected to both Aune X7S and Little Dot mk3.

I started this hobby with X2HR and then HD560s, but I couldn’t stand the treble on any of those.

I’ve listened to the Ghost for a few days, and while i liked the sound I found them a bit muffled, even compared to the 6XX.

Yesterday I cut the foam and that really opened them up. What a difference! Still that beautiful smoothened out sound, just much clearer and still without any sibilance. Perfect.

Oh, and the Ghost sounds great on the tube amp as well, if anyones wondering.

Ya i tried it on a hybrid, sounded pretty dope but it lost bit too much in the detail for my liking, but on warm amp it sounded pretty great to me (IFI zen Can)

If the ghost muffled sounding then these others too!!

Rather interesting that this thing pulls so many amps at 91. Thanks for posting that

This is what I have been noticing… after I gave it some time and swapped to some appropriate pads without that excessive foam the entire signature opens up by a lot… initially they sounded very muffled to my ear, I think the treble dip may be too much in this regard as I only get that type of sound from dark sounding headphones but in this case it’s done rather poorly imo if we compare by nighthawk / audeze standards.

so far from my testing, Any pad with heavy tuning foam is a no go, leathers and suede are pretty much a no go with the ghost as it causes it to become far too warm, Perforated suede is actually fine(used my beyer focal pads for that one), velour is definitely fine albeit very bright bordering on sharp, and hybrid seems to keep the best tuning imo for these from any brand

It’s pretty interesting coming off a Liquid Platinum, but I didn’t like it off my bottlehead crack really

Ya same here, i was about to give up, i tried a bunch of different materials Micro Suede, Sheepskin, PU leather, Valor, as well as trying different shapes (angled is the way to go, the better seal is really nice).

None of them sound good, you would hear improvements but it would suffer in other places) but once i tried the hybrid which uses a very similar (if not the same kind) of valor to the stock pads, then it clicked
Also the over brightness was a similar concern which is why i didn’t mod the OG pads but rather went for a pad with a much thinner liner

Curious, what set of angleds are you using? I couldn’t seem to get any sennheiser style pads to fit on these only the beyers I have in house.

Eh why not, I will give them a shot myself then. That’s cheap as hell if it gets a great performance out of these, does make sense that the velour would be similar since brainwavz uses much cheaper materials too. Dekoni is quite the step up in quality lol. Curious on the results from this…

Worst case scenario is that you have an extra set of pads to experiment with
I wish i could get Dekoni but they don’t ship worldwide (at a reasonable rate) so im mostly sticking with what i can get on amazon

Well the pads that are hybrid velour from Dekoni are also $80 if not more  better off buying third party to shave cost at that point or the meze pads. I can’t really see paying $80 for pads that go on a headphone like this less it’s just a true game changer :man_shrugging: Though fair, I can always find a use for a pair of $20+ pads somewhere… granted I have far too many pads in my collection at this point lol I went ahead and placed an order for those brainwavz… should be here tomorrow

Is the fit ok with angled pads? Asking since the Ghost doesn’t swivel in that direction.

Seems that i like dark headphones. Really curious about the Nighthawks. Seems like a love/hate headphone.
