šŸ”¶ Tin P1 - Planar IEM

the OI has nothing to do with it.

You need to give them the berries to make them come to life, under driven then theyā€™re just meh but given lots of headroom they shine.

wellā€¦
Shuoer tape it is
XD
ā€¦and thanks guys for your replies

you need eq to tame the 3.5k peak, unless you are fine with it. But that one is very power efficient at least lol.

I actually meant Shuoer tape proā€¦
they cost the same, but have that ā€œmountainā€ on 3.5 cut down

NOOOOOOO
THEY ARE WORSE!!!

Hot garbageā€¦

I have both the P1 and tapes. They are nothing alike and more importantly excel in different genres. EDM etc. get the tapes. Everything else the P1s are far better to my ears. I ran balanced from a fiio m9 then upgraded to hiby r5 for more power. Thinking about a desktop amp like the a50s for the P1s and future Sundara (maybe).

I donā€™t know what the generally held view is on the tapes but I donā€™t like to listen to rock, jazz, hip hop so much as the mids sound artificial. Whereas the P1s nail it albeit with much less bass.

Got them both too and yes they are nothing alike. Only similarity is that they both got exotic drivers.

The problem with both of them is that you pretty much need eq on them both, P1 needs a bass boost, tape needs a 3.5k reduction. And the P1 also needs so much power that it really isnt a good portable iem, unless you have a mid-tier amp/dap that is going to be more expensive than the iem itselfā€¦

Honestly I think too much is said of P1 lacking bass as theyā€™re fine unless youā€™re looking for that physical sensation you get from the tapes (which is fun). To my ears I think EQ makes things sound worse and never better, so YMMV. Drive the P1s with a good amp and play them loud, they sound better than anything else Iā€™ve heard. All subjective stuff I guess. Really interested in listening to Sundara with the hope theyā€™re a full size headphone version of the P1, can anyone confirm?

they lack bass that should be in the song, with real music/instruments, bass is in the forefront. And yes I do drive them with more than enough power with my Ibasso DX160 or the Schiit Asgard 3.

Try this PEQ if you can. Game changer for it.

Agree 100%, get a good seal, add power :boom: and an iFi xBass (I donā€™t eq) and this setā€™s amazingā€¦punches at $500 for detail retrieval, if youā€™re not too worried about rolling with your homies and smoking blunts while listening Rap then theyā€™re a big rec from meā€¦and one set iā€™ll never let go :+1:

I just charged my Hiby R5 and I think it sounds better fully charged, is that possible? I donā€™t have xbass, but Iā€™ve heard only good things. But listening to Adore by Savages thereā€™s plenty bass to cover the drums and 4 string. Sounds epic actually. This combination is actually holding me back spending more, as I donā€™t know what could be improved. Sundara?

Depends if your youā€™re maxing out the R5ā€¦if your battery is good then it should be ok, but yes like under powered light bulbs will effect the sound or light.

I just sealed the port right next to the nozzle. That removes the bass role off, making the bass perfectly satisfactory to me.

I did that before using EQ. Sealing the port just makes the bass very bloated to me. PEQ is better since it has better quality.

I went ahead and downloaded APO for Windows and ran Amazon HD Windows ā†’ Hiby r5 USB DAC. I setup the EQ as you suggested and I can confirm thereā€™s plentiful bass without it sounding congested or bloated. I could see myself doing this if I wanted to listen to Electronica or something where bass is more important to the experience. But and this is purely my opinion but thereā€™s something lost in the mids with regards to clarity. Thereā€™s a veil that comes over vocals and guitar. Each to their own as we all have a unique perception of what we hear. The 150Hz tinkering has more effect in this regard than the 80Hz, so bringing that down in dB helped.

So in summary I think where music is missing bass where it should definitely be this is a great solution (if as a listener thatā€™s bothering you). But if thereā€™s ample bass in a track and this just accentuates it and youā€™re going to be sacrificing some detail. I have a good friend who I know would much prefer this tuning, as heā€™s been very unimpressed with some of my equipment in the past citing lack of bass where I was happily oblivious!

Iā€™m now really keen to try your EQ recommendation on the Tapes to see what effect that has. Cheers!

Listening notes: I used LCD Soundsystem, Rush and Led Zepplin for testing. I think in many ways LZ benefitted more, as LCD SS still had plenty of oomph w/o the EQ and it only added to it whereas LZ it definitely changed things up. If you like a warmer ā€œHiFi soundā€ with accentuated bass go for this, but for me listening to Moving Pictures by Rush it loses too much detail and presence in the mids is where the P1 rules supreme.

My other EQ presets are in my database so just check them out if you want.

I do agree that the bass boost isnt a flawless eq, it does lose some of that vocal quality. But I think it makes up for it with the bass and also because the treble timbre seems to be a bit better. Other than the bass on the P1, the unnatural treble timbre really bothers me because of godly the vocals sounds like.

Just tried EQ on the tapes and they sound less harsh and better suited to music that theyā€™d failed on beforehand. Couldnā€™t really tell when listening to Camelphat (electronica) but made a world of difference with Rush. Thanks!

No problem, I am their ā€œbetaā€ tester after all. :joy:

(its a joke, I paid full price for itā€¦)

wellā€¦
my original thought process was fairly simple
i just wanted something new, something different from that typical V harman sound
these two models are on the other sides of the spectrum, but are definitely something uncommonā€¦
